scales too soon. Changed batteries, no change. Emailed company. Because they are over five years old, warranty period, they can’t be replaced. I can get them recalibrated for $150 though. I think I have to pay shipping to and from Western Australia, too. Very disappointed that such an expensive item only has a 5 year warranty. Other reviews I have seen elsewhere have stated the 5 year and a bit lifespan

pipe in my bathroom. This unit is rechargeable via USB so it is more convenient than using batteries. The body scale provides you fast results on 13 key body composition analysis, including your weight. Once paired and setup with your smartphone, you launch the Renpho Health app, select your scale and just step on it. Within 15 seconds, you get your weight and the rest of the data is transmitted to the app. It is reliable, and easy to use.
The Renpho Health app works with a range of other Renpho devices and it stores each data reading so you can refer to it for historical comparisons. I can been using the scales and app for over 18 months to track my body health. It even syncs with your Apple iPhone health app and presumably, supports a similar app on Android devices. For the price, the Renpho smart body scale provides a comprehensive set of measurements, is reliable and easy to use, providing excellent synching with both the Renpho Health app and your iPhone.

These came after going through a number of LED scales that only seem to last the warranty period. However, they are more expensive than your usual bathroom scales. Still, considering how many LED scales we went through before we bought the SECA scales, our initial outlay has been recoup many times over. Long lasting. Accurate. Large face easy to read. More expensive than the usual bathroom scales. Scale around 97-98 Kg not as easy to read.

have. I also enjoyed, when going on cruises and the gym, stepping on the scales there they give all the read outs to your internals like visceral fat, water retention, muscle mass, etc.
So I figured why not upgrade my scale at home to one of these smarter scales?
I have to say, if scales could talk, this one would probably send me apology texts every morning. The Arboleaf Smart Scale isn't just a piece of bathroom decor — it's basically a tiny, judgmental robot that happens to take a lot of readings. With its bright LED show and fancy 14 metrics (weight, BMI, body fat, muscle, water, bone, and probably your Hogwarts house too), stepping on this feels like opening your health stats for a TED Talk.
What I like most about this scale is it shows the readings on the scale's actual display! Unlike a lot of other smart scales where you need to connect to an app to see the results, this scale has them display bright and crystal clear for you. Of course, you can track your readings and view the results over time as well.
The ColorZone Display on the scale is like a mood ring for your body: green means “you're killing it,” yellow means “we need to talk,” and red… well, that's when you start blaming the scale, not pizza. Those numbers sync effortlessly to your phone app, along with other information that can't be easily displayed. It's like the scale is saying “I've got you,” even if your willpower doesn't. There's even an option to turn on the scale's setting to beep at you, just to let you know it's done with your reading in case you aren't looking at the numbers.
Once the scale is synced to your phone and you see progress towards any goals you may have, the stats roll in like a motivational PowerPoint presentation. By week three, you'll be stalking your own data more than your ex's profile.
The scale runs on 3 AAA batteries. How long they will last, I can't say.
Bottom line: This scale doesn't just tell you what you weigh — it knows you. Other than the weight, I can't say or judge how accurate all the other readings are. Like any partner in life, how well do they really know you? :-) But since everything is relative, accurate or not, at least I can track progress of readings to keep on top of my health.

confident will go the distance.
I was always going to buy Tanita as my experience with them has been great - my old scales are still going strong after 20 years - but I wanted to upgrade to the body composition scales.
I mean, I don't like what they tell me! But I cannot fault the scales themselves, or the app they pair with.
The scales are accurate, consistent, and so easy to use.
The app they pair with, "My Tanita", has appropriate privacy settings, and is super easy to set up and use. You can add multiple users, adults have the full suite of measurements. Children's accounts have a pared back data set, which I think is appropriate.
You don't have to use them with the app, but you don't get the full benefit of all the features if you don't.
The 402 model looks the same, but pairs with a different app, "Heath Planet" that is pretty awful, isn't intended for the Australian market and the privacy settings are just terrible. Get the 401s.
It has to be noted that the service has been outstanding, Boba at Tanita's head office went out of her way to make sure I was completely happy with my purchase, and I am.

a local Big W store for $49. The packaging was good and mostly recyclable. The design seems to be good. It can operate in two modes. Weight only, which is operated by just stepping onto the scale. Body analysis, which is operated by previously inputting your body age, height and gender into the scale's memory. However, when you step onto the scale, you have to press the 'user' button with your toe to activate the analysis mode properly. The display is a back lit liquid crystal one. My only gripes are 1) while the weight display is large and easily seen, the calculated results of body fat% / body water % / BMI and bone mass % are relatively small. 2) other information that appears in the display aren't explained in the instruction manual i.e what appears to be a goal weight and a difference from the weight displayed at the previous use of the scale. 3) My old scale allowed for 10 individuals to be entered into the memory. This model only allows for four individual data entries. 4) When displaying all of the calculated data, the display time is relatively short before it turns off. So you have to be quick if you want to write anything down. 5) There doesn't appear to be any capacity for recalling previously stored data. I suppose that this is to reduce costs of production, but I would have thought that it would be a good idea to have this. 6) Despite the use of the word 'smart' on the box etc, there is nothing smart about it. If you want a 'smart' body analysis scale, then Bunnings have them but they cost a bit more and you link it to your mobile telephone via an app.
On the plus side, the scale comes with a quite good operator manual with some reasonable guides on how to use the scale to best advantage and tips on how to lose weight. The unit can be re-calibrated when required and stored profiles can be erased if needed. Instructions on inputting individual data are easy to understand and the actual process is quite simple. The scale is battery powered only, requires three AAA batteries (supplied). It also comes with a 'limited' ten year warranty. The scale is built by Conair.

probably something most of you are already familiar with.
The weaknesses of it are: 1. Accuracy not the best as most of those stats are calculated / estimates. Even when it comes to weight [which is measured each time], the readings tend to fluctuate. I have a Bosch digital scale side by side and have been testing them together. Most of the time they do not provide the same results - and given the choice between UrbanWorx and Bosch, I'd trust Bosch more. But the differences are usually minor ~0.5kg at most so <1% variance.
2. The biggest problem I have is from the App that is needed to run this. It is called "OKOK International" - made by a company in China. There is no other software available that will work with these scales so you are forced to load their app [I use it with an iPhone and have no experience with this on any other platform / OS].
3. Having done so, it is clear that they have not put much effort into the app. UI is poor and unengaging.
4. Lots of ads get pumped to you daily, and unless you watch them to the end, the app will not work and thereby neither will the smart scale. In my opinion, ads should only be pushed through to sponsor 'free' software. But in this case, you've paid for the scale and correspondingly the app. So the app should be free, completely free. Especially since it will not work as a smart scale without the app. It would be like Apple pushing ads to you every day just so you can turn on your iphone. I've given them my feedback to this issue but even after many months they have not replied.
5. The app also does not consistently sync with Apple Health so you still have to manually transfer the data across. What's the point of having a smart scale & app if it won't share the data with your health app. It used to sync with Apple health but since Nov 2025 it is reported by iOS as "inactive".
So overall I've no regrets about having bought this smart scale - it was very cheap and it does do all the things that a smart scale is supposed to. But they should not be pushing ads and they should make sure the app works well and integrates with Apple Health.

to be programmable for user memory and show body mass index, body fat%, etc. The weight readings are easily accessed by just standing on the scales. As per the user manual, the other functions require the user to "Press the centre of the platform and make sure no weight is on the scale". This is required for "Changing the unit", "zero setting", setting and accessing user memory and using all the other features of the scales. The first scales would only show weight readings when standing on the scales. Nothing happened when the platform was pressed in the centre and the only way user programs could be set was to stand on the scales to show the weight reading and then press the square icon between the arrows. None of the other features were accessible because the scales would not come on when the centre of the platform was pressed. User programs could only be set but not accessed. The scales appeared to be faulty and were returned and replaced by David Jones on 31 October. The same problems exist on the replaced scales. I have followed the user manual but the instructions either wrong or the scales faulty again or both. There is no one to speak to in Australia and the support for these is out of the UK. I have sent an email and I am waiting for a reply before I return these or get proper instructions and accessing all the features. If you just want bathroom scales to show weight, then you can find much cheaper options. I do not recommend these scales because they do not function as advertised on the box and user manual.

it. Unfortunately the body composition values differed from a DEXA scan by a factor of two! ... Seriously! About a month ago a new firmware version was pushed out and from that time, it manages to provide (a still very inaccurate) body comp reading only about once in about 15 uses. We have read and followed the instructions to the letter, watched the instructional videos, donned our "light weigh clothing", cleaned the scales as recommended, wet hands and feet, dried hands and feet, smiled at it, yelled at it and even promised it a good review - still it fails to deliver the body comp readings we purchased it for.
Don't waist your money - shame on you Withings!
What can bathroom scales measure?
In addition to weight, some bathroom scales measure other information, such as Body Mass Index (BMI), Basal Metabolic Weight (BMR) and Active Metabolic Weight (AMR), or information about your body composition (such as body fat, muscle mass, bone mass and water percentage). If it measures body fat, it will usually be referred to as a ‘body fat scale’.
These metrics can be useful if you’re training or are trying to track progress on a specific health, fitness or strength regime. However, they should not be the only indicators you consider when tracking health.
Here are some other points to consider when deciding what you want your scale to measure.
- Often scales have a measurement range, for example, a model may only be able to measure up to 180kg.
- Some scales can also track your standing heart rate, which can be useful to monitor certain health conditions and give you a better picture of your overall health.
- Certain models can also let you keep track of certain metrics to do with pregnancy (some claim to be able to recognise and track your child’s growth), however, this shouldn’t replace seeing a doctor or health professional.
- If a scale offers ‘Baby mode’, this feature helps you keep track of your child’s growth by just stepping on the scale with your baby in your arms.
How to use a bathroom scale
Whether you have a conventional bath scale or a scale that measures body fat, it’s recommended to take your measurements and record the results regularly. This will provide you with a better picture of where you’re at than just taking occasional measurements.
An important thing to note is that body fat scales generally aren’t recommended for anyone with a pacemaker or any other internal medical device. They also aren’t recommended for those who are pregnant. It’s important to consult your doctor first to check that these devices are safe for you to use.
Here are some other things to keep in mind when using a scale:
- Place the scale on a hard, level surface.
- Measure yourself at the same time of day, keeping in mind that if you change your meal times frequently this may impact the accuracy of your results.
- Avoid taking a reading immediately after you’ve woken up or after a meal.
- If you’re using a body fat scale, use it with bare feet to ensure proper contact with the scale’s sensors.
What to consider when choosing a bathroom scale
Mechanical vs. digital scales
Bathroom scales can measure your weight in two ways: mechanically, with a spring mechanism, or electronically, converting the force of the weight to an electric signal. Digital bathroom scales are thought to be more accurate and repeatable than mechanical scales.
How accurate are bathroom scales?
The accuracy of a scale is difficult to determine before you take it home and test it out. Typically, scales are more accurate at measuring weight than other measurements, such as body fat.
When it comes to measuring body fat, keep in mind that even good scales may have a difference of around 3 to 4% either way. This means they can give you a pretty good indication of your body fat or body composition and are more useful at tracking trends, rather than providing a completely accurate result.
Features
There are some features on weight scales that can make them easier to use. These include, but aren’t limited to, the following:
- Automatic on/off: Many, if not most, scales will automatically turn on and weigh the load when they detect someone or something on the scale.
- Multi-user: Some scales can recognise and track data of multiple users, with some models offering tracking up to 10 users.
- Use on carpet: Most scales need to be used on a hard, level floor, but some can still accurately weigh you if they’re used on carpet.
- Weather forecast: Certain models even have access to a weather forecast, helping you plan for your day.
- Weight only: If you have a scale that can take measurements other than weight, this feature simplifies your readings so that it only shows your weight.
Power
Body weight scales and body fat scales are most often battery-powered. If it takes rechargeable batteries, then check how long they last. Often scales have a battery that can last up to 12 months.
Display
A large display with clear lettering will be easier to read when you’re standing on the scale. The data displayed should also be simple to understand and be on the screen long enough to be able to easily read it. Backlit LCD displays tend to be easy to read.
Some models also let you display data in different measurements, for example, being able to display your weight in either kilograms, pounds or stones. Most scales will display weight in 100g increments, so check before you buy if you require greater accuracy.
Connectivity
Some bathroom scales can be connected to an app on a smart device - these are sometimes referred to as smart scales. Each app is different, but when synced with your scales, they usually help you track your progress, letting you set goals and monitor your data. Some even provide motivation for those with fitness-oriented goals.
Make sure you read reviews to see if an app is actually user-friendly and easy to set up. If it lags, isn’t easy to use or doesn’t help you track useful information, then it shouldn’t be a selling point for any scale you’re considering buying.
Note that some apps are only compatible with certain phones or operating systems, so check this before you buy.
Cost
Bathroom scales can cost anywhere from $20 to over $250. Scales with features like Wi-Fi connectivity and the ability to measure body fat will likely cost you over $100.
Also look for a warranty; many models come with a 1-year warranty.
