Best pillow ever – This is the best pillow. I went years with my old one because nothing could replicate it until this baby came into my life. I hope Ikea never stop making these
Won't be spurting on this baby – Resting my oversized head on the KVARNVEN reminds me of days long gone when I'd relax my noggen upon the ample bossom of a young maiden.… Read more
Unfortunately, I'm too old and disfigured for that nowadays but at least I have my pillow. Comfortable and keeps me cool
3.5 stars – I would like to give this product 3.5 stars as I think it is "quite good" but not quite "great", and in my books 3 stars = good; 4 stars = great. As… Read more
we can only give an integer rating I rounded it to 4.
Anyway this pillow is different to a typical pillow in that it is quite firm and small. I've not used a pillow like this before so this was a new sleeping experience for me.
The pillow is asymmetrical and offers 2 configurations: 1 for side sleeping and 1 for back sleeping. The image on the bag shows which is which.
I have to say it does seem to provide quite good support for both side and back sleeping. It does feel like my neck is getting better support. I can feel my neck getting the extra support around the larger foam bulge in the side sleeping configuration. This bulge feels too large for back sleeping, hence the 2nd configuration with the smaller bulge for back sleeping is useful.
The material is quite firm. My previous Ikea memory foam pillow was extremely soft compared to this one.
The foam seems to retain heat and I did get some sweat around my neck.
It is a bit annoying having to rotate the pillow when changing between side and back sleeping positions. Note this is a rotate, not a flip, and a flip is easier than a rotate, which requires more room.
It doesn't reek of chemicals like other Ikea stuff. Also purchased the Rumsmalva pillow and that one stinks quite badly and looks like it will need a lot of airing before I can use it. Same issue with Ikea mattresses -- really wish they would stop stinking up their products like this, it's getting a bit ridiculous. Don't know how they get away with it from a business perspective. I guess people think it's "fresh" or "new car smell" or something?
I'm sure there will be many people who won't like this small, firm, unusual pillow from Ikea. But it seems to work well for me. I just wish it retained less heat.
Update 1/1/24 I would just like to mention that 6 months after using this pillow I developed cervicogenic headache. I am not sure if this is a coincidence or whether this pillow caused it. I do not use this pillow any more as it aggravates my condition.
Cooling? Not if you want to keep it clean – Just recently I've found that I'm waking frequently at night because I'm too hot - not because the room is hot (the air-con is on) but because I've… Read more
poured too much heat into the mattress and it becomes too hot.
We decided to try a cooling mattress topper and, after looking at a variety of options, chose the IKEA KNAPSTAD one.
The topper comes all compressed down into a 16.5kg roll (king size) and is made of a 5cm layer of memory foam with a removable cover. The cover has one side which is cooling (summer) and one which is not (winter). I don't actually understand why the cover is removable though because it cannot be washed (according to the paperwork that accompanied it).
Once on the bed we tried it for five nights just under the sheet, it wasn't great but not too bad. However, because I sweat at night, we were concerned about the hygiene aspect since it cannot be washed.
The paperwork said it could be placed beneath a mattress protector so we tried that last night - a very bad move! The protector negated any cooling effect from the topper, meaning that I had a lousy night's sleep, unable to get cool, I'm absolutely k####ered.
The topper went back to IKEA this morning!
Initially they wanted to to give us a credit note as the item will now have to be thrown away (mattresses, toppers, pillows, etc. cannot be resold apparently). Poor design we think, it should have been made washable.
We argued that there was nothing to say about credit only on the item, receipt or website and that we wouldn't have bought it if that were the case, certainly not at $449! Technically it could be argued that the item was not fit for purpose and therefore a refund due, since it said it could be used under a protector, but cannot if you want the cooling effect.
Under the circumstances they relented and gave us a refund.
I bought this mattress based on Choice's 2nd place rating in their 2025 mattress review. What a piece of garbage! My partner & I are both under… Read more
70kg but after just one month it was starting to sag where we lie and there was a hump down the middle. It's on an Ikea base and the slats are firm, but I put a board under the whole mattress, just to be sure, and it made no difference. After 3 months, despite rotating it lengthwise several times during that time, the hump is more obvious and there is definite sagging both sides. Now I'm back to mattress shopping! Ikea lets you swap within a year of purchase, but even if I pay another $1050 for their top of the range mattress, I can't trust that the same thing won't happen. Very disappointed Ikea!
WORST MATTRESS EVER for AUD 799.00 -Initially firm, but only within few months the mattress began to sag – Worst mattress ever!! The dipping in the middle makes the mattress uncomfortable to use. Obviously the springs are of extremely poor quality. This… Read more
mattress is made to look good, but is NOT durable! I am now waking up with terrible backpain in the morning. In March 2023 I went on live chat with IKEA and corresponded with Adam, who was able to offer some alternatives of exchange, but other non-mattress product exchange and NO MONEY BACK. This is not good enough IKEA!! I would like to return the mattress I am ready to accept a credit to spend at IKEA.
The pillow that kept changing – After the first week of use I noticed the pillow started rising and rising and rising. Then it became very lumpy. You can feel all the many lumps. This all ends up to bad nights sleep and I have to go back to my old pillows. Show details
