I like this kettle very much as I like seeing the water through the glass - but the plastic insert in the centre of the lid cracks. Bought in May… Read more

2024 but multiple cracks appeared around 10 months later.

I took it back to TGG it’s an online only product so a wait of weeks followed without a kettle at home.

July 2025 - this time a large crack appeared within approximately 2 months of receiving the new replacement.

I rang TGG to ask if they could get the replacement in for me in advance, so that I can then swap over this faulty one as not having a kettle in the kitchen is quite difficult. Apparently they can’t order one in advance to replace this faulty one.

He suggested getting a different kettle and I suppose using the refund on the Breville towards the new one. It’s definitely a major fault with this compact kettle that the plastic lid insert will likely crack. It’s not caused by the user but the plastic that is used in the lid.

Eventually Breville posted me a new kettle. I hope they are able to change the plastic in the lid to something that does not crack

Some serious materials defects and safety hazards on this kettle - it should be condemned – At the outset, I am pro-Breville as I believed that their products are better than most. But my accident with the Breville Soft Top™ Clear BKE495BSS… Read more

kettle has dented my confidence in the brand wholesomely. On Saturday, the 12th June 2021, just after boiling water, the handle snapped clean off just as I was lifting the near-full kettle from the multi-directional base. As the "soft top" lid forms part of the handle mechanism, the kettle lid blew open simultaneously with boiling water flying everywhere. I really was not expecting anything like this to happen so almost dropped the kettle. During my instinctive attempt to regain my grip on the handle I received burns to my right hand and midriff area. I now see this type of breakage is common on this kettle. And due to the obvious serious materials defects and safety hazards on the Breville Soft Top™ Clear BKE495BSS kettle, it should be condemned outright. Furthermore, I am very surprised by the absence of responses by Breville - which in itself is totally unacceptable. I have looked after this kettle from day one and albeit out of warranty, this should never have happed - period. But see the pictures - Breville should take cognizance of, and ownership accordingly and therefore should address these latent defects with immediate effect.

jug/kettle that I have ever had that did not have a light to say was activated and on. So still to this day my husband and I both comment on this issue So my next purchase I will make sure it has a light. Otherwise works well a bit noisy and takes a while to heat a full kettle but it is easy to keep clean, water tastes fine so apart from the no light issue it is a good kettle.

Definitely this is the best Kettle we have ever owned. Holds 1 Litre and boils that amount very quickly and without any spillage at all. This… Read more

Kettle is light-medium weight and the water pours into the cup without any mess at all and at the same time, it is balanced well for the person holding it. We purchased the Stainless Steel version of this Kettle, however there is a clear glass version available as well. Slightly noisy when it first starts up, like most Kettles. It is a good shape and size for the average kitchen bench. We only purchased it because of the amazing reviews other people gave it, so we took a chance and just ordered it based on how other people rated it highly - glad we did!

So very disappointed in this very expensive kettle, it is very heavy and you are unable to read the water level without holding it up to the light. It looks very nice but in action so disappointing. Show details

kettle is a revelation as I can now hear the radio over the kettle boiling. It boils water quicker as well. The pop-open lid is easy to use and refill the kettle. It is nice looking and I am happy with my purchase so far. I got mine as a return at Amazon for cheaper than usual. Normally $79.

CHEAP Plastic (from China?) used – Clear plastic on the rid cracked. Got replacement in 3 months. New one cracked again. It's a defect material Breville is using. I thought one of famous appliance companies could do better than this. Show details

kettle that didn’t taint the water. So many now have plastic parts that affect the taste, as was the case with the one I returned.

The BKE840 has fixed those problems for us. It heats the water twice as fast as the last one. It has had no problems with leaking or pouring.

I’m an electrical engineer. I am always careful when I buy new appliances. (That doesn’t mean that I don’t occasionally make mistakes.) But after the problem last time, I was really careful with my choice.

Everything is well laid out. It would be difficult to burn yourself as the potential hot spots are obvious.

And it’s easy to load it with exactly the right amount of water because of the open glass layout.

It’s the best kettle I’ve owned in the past 50+ years.

I hope I’m not proved to be wrong.

I can not be happier. It looks fantastic . I researched kettles for weeks before I decided which one to choose . I initially wanted the Smeg retro… Read more

kettle but upon closer inspection that kettle was cheaply made and cheap looking and used many plastic components in and out of the kettle itself. It had a plastic handle that would degrade over time definitely not what I was willing to get for a $299 outlay. That kettle was no better than a $30 kmart plastic kettle. I don’t want plastic to leach into the water I drink .It is well proven that when plastic is heated it releases micro plastics.

After all the research I chose Breville the Crystal Luxe Kettle in Damson Blue ( metallic navy blue) for its build quality, performance ,style, lack of plastic, and quiet functionality.

It is well made with glass and stainless steel. It is slightly heavier than its plastic competitors but in my opinion well worth it, only plastic on this appliance is the stand it sits on. The kettle is so quiet and has a cute little bell( sounds like bell on kids bike) to advice when it has completed its job. The bell is triggered by movement so sometimes you can hear it when pouring the water into your cup but it is a cute sound and not a problem overall. It also has a soft open lid and a mesh filter. The on switch is easy to find and use . The kettle has a cord that is thick and long ( over a meter that can be wrapped around and hidden in its base. You can buy a toaster to match the kettle as well.

Because the water is boiled in glass there is no foul taste in the water. The water heats up very quickly and quietly . I would have thought the glass would have been hot to the touch but I was surprised that it was safe from causing accidental burns from touching the hot kettle.

Do not overfill the kettle or it will splash over. The maximum water and minimum water levels are clearly marked and as long as they are adhered to the kettle works perfectly. As a precaution to prevent boil over I fill mine slightly under the max water line and I never had any splash over/ boil over.

It is a beautifully designed looking kettle that is well made and comes in a few different colours. It also has the ability to have temperature control so you can set the temperature of the water from 50 to 100 degrees but that model is more expensive( $75 more) and I had no need for it as it is best suited for people who want to brew specialty teas. When on sale it can be bought for $149 regular price is $199. I would recommend this kettle to anyone who wants a quality kettle that will last years that is not plastic or cheap looking and is built with quality in mind. I am very happy with my purchase. Love the colour too matches my Hamptons styled kitchen to perfection.

customers I will never purchase another Berville appliance. The first one we received the base station malfunctioned which makes the unit absolutely useless. The Good Guys were great here and just replaced it. Though now that the breville warranty is out they basically said we dont care and tried to wash their hands of us when my wife called. When I called then and stated that under consumer law the item should be free of defects for a reasonable amount of time taking it to account the price. Now Ive owned cheap Kmart kettles that have lasted 10 years so a +$100 one should last more then 3 years before it decides to leak boiling water out of the handle all over the electronic base station. Their answer after a long circular discussion with them was to offer a 40% discount one a new one if we purchased another, note that due to the price increase it would result in a $5 discount of what we originally paid. So then we pay twicethe amount for the 2 kettles that might last as long as a cheap one. I asked them if they could just fix it to which they refused. Honestly the worst customer support I had had to deal with. Consumer law was written because of companies like this.

photos & have received a email response today saying it was outside their warranty but in a “goodwill” gesture they would offer me 40% off a new kettle. Heck, I can probably go down to our local mall & source one for the same “generous” (not) discount in the sales. Why would I buy Breville again when the quality is so poor? Not happy Breville!
