Because the rough part of the spool your line comes on is on the outside NOT the inside AND where your new line now has minute cuts all along it's length when it was spooled. I saw one top Japanese brand line recently which had a ridiculous amount of large sharp mold ridges and put it back on the shelf immediately.

Maxima is supple yet strong, the best line you can buy IMO.
