for repair they charge $150 for dropping by. The circuit board was found to be defective & they quote almost $400 for a replacement. I found F&P product quality has deterioraded & the price for their products & parts are way too high for poorer quality product. I could just buy a new European brand for less $700 instead of doing the repair.

were game enough to wash them a second time they would come out stretched and paper thin, a lot of the time with multiple rips, holes or even shredded from being stretched to the maximum. For the next few months I tried every cycle, using the lowest spin (400) and the lowest temperature - I tried small loads, big loads, medium sized loads but every wash (even the delicate cycle) had the same result. LG garment care factor = NIL. Even though it was still under warranty (6 months old) neither LG customer service or Harvey Norman wanted to know or assist, insinuating user fault. I never received a single call back from LG or Harvey Norman at any time during my dealings with these disgraceful organisations. NEVER again will I have an LG product in my house or step foot in a Harvey Norman store again after being treated so appallingly and spoken down to by the HN department manager when I dare question the delivery/installation procedure as a possibility for damage in transit. I thought it was reasonable to at least look into it because when I requested the installers leave me the travel bolts they said this machine doesn't come with any. The HN dept mgr rejected any such possibility with the reason being that travel bolts can only be used once, they are not reuseable and if I should ever need to move the machine I should just fill up the drum with clothes. Well, that excuse was an insult to my intelligence and should be a huge red flag to the Harvey Norman franchise, and it was the final straw for me. My last contact he promised to phone me back in 20 minutes with an update - that was 5 days ago...... some things just don't change.

the bottom of the machine had started to corrode under the panel. I emailed whirlpool with my concerns of the corrosion and was asked to send photos of the damaged. Then another email requesting full photos of the machine. Third email was a reply that the rust is not covered in the 5 year warranty. This is the response received by whirlpool. “The rust in the unit is usually not covered under the warranty. It occurs due to surrounding moisture and in order to remove the issue of rust, Maintenance and cleanliness of unit is must. Since rust are external issue not a manufacturing defect, we are unable to assist you at the stage. Please keep unit safe and clean in order to avoid further rusting of the unit.” It’s a washing machine that has water going through it at least 4 times a week. And the rust was covered by the front panel. The area has never been under water

complained to LG and the response i received that it was not a warranty fault but user error, even though we regularly ran the drum cycle (more than recommended), the photos are of the seal that i replaced, the brown paste (scrud, LG called it) , is impossible to clean, as it is behind the seal, which you don't have access to, so cannot clean. Even replacing the seal wash a mission (i am quite handy), you have to nearly dismantle the whole machine, i have never had this issue with any other washing machine design, and would definitely not recommend to buy an LG machine, and the support was not helpful and basically said it was not covered under warranty even though we used it as recommended.

Not happy. Asko W2084C Purchased May2025 for $1,500 (sale) at AdelaideApplianceGallery W2084C is very hard to use. And we had an Asko before this… Read more

model (W6441 Quattro rated at 4.3 stars!!!) which was very easy to use. Completely backwards design for the W2084 (rated 2.1 stars!!!).

The single worst features are: 1. the control/user interface 2. the programs and optional settings

For info: we wash the full range of household clothes. we keep comparing to the old Asko W6441 which was so easy to use. the W2084 washes quite well but has all the usage problems mentioned below.

1. the control/user interface - there has been an annoying move in user interfaces for European appliance (e.g. our European oven is the same annoying design) to a single line display, with few buttons, where selections and settings are mostly hidden. One has to cycle through many many options until the desired ones are found for selection. Give me back buttons like on the old W6441! - when the machine is running the only way to display the program or settings chosen is to press a button. - There is NO actual information as to how far through a cycle the machine has progressed, only a time remaining which keeps changing. The time should indicate this but it keeps changing every few minutes by up to 30 mins. and total time can vary from the initial display estimate by as much as 40 mins. Crazy! - interface looks neat and pretty for marketing purposes but is “fashion over design” when it comes to using it. And THIS is what customers will remember!

2. the programs and optional settings - the programs are annoying. Each program has exceptions such as only cold water, maximum of 3Kg, extremely long run time, only low spin rates allowed etc.. What is the point of having these options if half can’t be selected for any given program. By all means have defaults for every program but please allow ALL options to be selected for EVERY program, then a customer can actually setup a useful program to run. - 8KG loads advertised. Not told it is only some programs. Dishonest! - the Mode options “Speed” etc. seem useful at first to tailor a chosen program but there is no indication of what they do, and as soon as one mode is chosen (e.g. “speed”) then NO information is given on how water usage etc. etc. may change. Also when “SPEED” is chosen the initial time shown is reduced but during washing the remaining time can increase greatly to more than NOT having “SPEED” selected. So what is the point of the “SPEED” option? - we would like to setup a program that has approx. 40C temp, runs a maximum of one hour, minimises water usage, takes 8KG (as advertised for this model), uses max. spin rate. If these settings don’t produce the best wash then that is our choice. But there is no way to even choose such a program. -Only option on "Spin only" takes 17 minutes. What? No shorter choice for a few simple clothes that don't need to be highly spun).

3. Failures - We get out of balance errors all the time. The machine often recovers and continues but this recovery adds many many minutes to the run time. Quite often however the machine doesn't recover (usually on the final Spin cycle) and one finds the machine stopped - one has to then restart the Spin cycle which can fail a few more times thus extending the total program cycle by an extra 10-40 mins. [Name Removed] (Customer Care support person at Asko Australia) tried hard to be helpful but his advice fails. He suggested that loads on Spin need to be largish to maintain balance. Doesn't help - we have tried medium and maximum loads on Wash and Spin - Spin fails about 50% of the time no matter what we do and a restart is required. And even worse, when the Asko stops DURING a spin cycle the display says “program successfully completed “. Waste of time. Seems to be a known problem when searching the web for the W2084 - Asko have a design issue with their "out of balance" sensor!

4. Other - When door is left open the long hard sharp plastic door catch is very painful and harmful if bumped with one's leg. - the Asko online survey comment field (Asko web site) is way tooooooo short. Only allows a few lines of text. - W2084C: 8KG loads advertised. Not told it is only some programs. Dishonest. - AdelaideApplianceGallery Sales were as helpful as possible but we chose the wrong model.

- I DID search for W2084 here in ProductReview.com.au BEFORE purchase but at the time (May 2025) NO reviews for that model came up. Web site glitch? If I had read the reviews I would NOT have bought this model!

Please Asko - if we can get a tradein on this model we'll buy a different model!!

Refer also "ASKOfan" excellent review of this model.

run like a dream since day 1, no matter the abuse we throw at it, and trust me, during winter sports season it gets punishment! So huge it even fits our blankets, and kids doonas, meaning less dry cleaning expenses, more margarita money for me! The filter is front bottom and easy to access and clean. I made my own favourite cycle so I got what suits us, 60 deg C for the aforementioned sports uniforms (lucky this isnt smellavision) with high spin. Always get a good outcome using 0.5 cup sodium carbonate and a half dose of laundry detergent. Not too wet, dry off quickly. My only ever hiccup was a stretchy lycra top that was caught in door as it closed and spun around making a giant knot, and made machine shake. Note to self, dont overfill machine and make sure all items are away from door. You can stop machine early in cycle to add those hiding socks you always find 2 seconds after you start a load, and the vapour refresh cycle is great for suit jackets and school blazers worn by stinky kids and husbands. There is remote connection for your phone but I dont use it since am right there wrangling the laundry anyway. The spin is a bit noisy, but the rest as silent as a toddler in the makeup drawer.

Brand-new washing machine after only three washes, it began leaking from the front door due to a faulty rubber seal. No errors. No misuse. I have two witnesses. Fisher & Paykel refusing to honour the warranty, instead are trting to shift the blame onto me creating hypothetical scenarios with no legal basis or supporting evidence.. The repair is not costly, but they'd rather liability avoidance rather than standing behind their product!. Also their AI-generated response is appalling!! They should invest in their product instead!

A near-new appliance failing after three uses is not acceptable!. Consumers deserve better! Disgusting treatment! This is unacceptable. If i could rate zero I would.

A father and daughter putting laundry into a front loading washing machine

What's better: top loading or front loading washers?

When shopping around, you’ll probably find that neither top loaders or front loaders are inherently better, but one will likely suit your laundry preferences more.

Front loaders

Front loaders have a drum that spins horizontally, using gravity to tumble the laundry and evenly distribute water and detergent to effectively clean it.

Pros
More water and energy efficient than top loaders, helping you save money and the planet.
May be more economical in the long run.
Generally gentler on your clothes.
Can more easily fit into tighter spaces as they have smaller external dimensions.
Can save space by fitting it underneath a kitchen benchtop or stacking a dryer on top, making it great for apartments and small homes.
Often have higher spin speeds than top loaders, helping clothes come out dryer.
Require less detergent for the same sized load.
Cons
More expensive upfront than top loading machines.
More difficult to move as they’re heavier.
Generally have longer wash cycles.
Most models don’t let you add additional clothing or detergent mid-wash.
Require you to bend over to load the machine, making loading and unloading harder on the back.
Often louder than top loaders.

Top loaders · See all

Top loading washing machines use either an agitator (the upright tube in the middle of the drum that twists back and forth) or an impeller (a spinning cone or disc) to rub clothes against each other and clean them.

Pros
Cheaper to buy than front loaders.
Easier to move, as they’re lighter.
Have shorter wash cycles, so are more suitable for time-pressed people.
Often have large load capacities.
Can usually be stopped in the middle of a cycle, letting you add more clothing.
Easier to load than front loaders, as they don’t require you to bend over.
Cons
Often use an agitator (the plastic column in the centre) that can stretch, snag, and damage clothing.
Less energy and water efficient.
Generally more harsh on clothing.
Top load washing machines are more expensive to operate.
Require more detergent.

What to look for in a front loading washing machine

Capacity

The capacity you need will largely depend on the size of your household, and your specific laundry needs.

Below is a rough guide to what machine capacity you need for your household size, however it’s recommended to consult the product manual to see whether a machine is suitable for you.

Front loader capacityHousehold size
5.5kg and under1 - 2 people
5.5kg - 8kg3 - 4 people
8kg and over4 or more people

Programs

A machine with a wide range of wash programs, temperatures, and spin speeds will let you make the most of the machine and customise your washing to suit different types of laundry.

Look for a variety of programs that can tackle both heavy duty loads (such as stained or soiled clothes) and delicate materials. Some programs will also have different options for different materials (for example, cottons or synthetics), making it easy to know what’s appropriate for your load.

Size

Before choosing between a small front loader washing machine and a larger model, measure (and double check) the size of the space your machine needs to fit in. Check these measurements against the external dimensions (height, depth, and width) of any washer you’re thinking of buying.

Make sure you should also take into account the space needed for the door to open, as well as the width of all the corridors leading to the laundry, so that you can actually move your new machine there.

Features

There are plenty of features on front loading washers that make them easier to use and help them more effectively clean your clothes and linen.

  • Delayed start: This lets you set a time for the cycle to start, so you can have it ready by a convenient time, or so you can take advantage of off-peak energy rates.
  • Wi-Fi connectivity: Some machines connect to a mobile app that lets you start your machine when you’re out, and track the progress of the cycle from your phone.
  • Child lock: A child lock prevents the door from being opened and the program from being changed mid-cycle, so that curious little fingers can’t make any changes. It can also be activated when the machine isn’t in use, to prevent little ones from playing with (or in) the machine.
  • Add to load: This feature lets you add more items (and sometimes detergent) to the wash mid-cycle, so that you can quickly add that missing sock you’ve found under the couch.
  • Auto balancing: Auto balancing detects an unbalanced load, and redistributes it so that your machine can efficiently wash your clothes.
  • Steam function: Steam inside a washing machine relaxes the fibres of your clothes and helps lift stubborn stains, making a steam function a handy feature to have.
  • Favourite program: This lets you save a customised program, so that you can easily set it at the push of a button.

Energy and water efficiency

An energy and water efficient machine is both more environmentally friendly and more easy on your wallet. Energy and water efficiency on a washing machine are indicated by star ratings - the more stars they have, the more efficient they are.

Larger washing machines often have more stars than smaller ones (as larger loads tend to save more energy), however they’ll use more power overall.

Build quality

We fork out quite a bit of money for washing machines, so it’s reasonable to expect to get years of use out of them.

Consider the material of the drum of your machine - most high-quality ones will have a stainless steel drum, which is both hard-wearing and gentle on clothes. You can also find plastic or porcelain-coated steel drums. Porcelain finishes are prone to chipping after a while, and while plastic tubs have a long lifespan, they can sometimes be a bit harsh on your laundry.

Read reviews to see how long a machine will last.

Reading front loader washing machine reviews is a good way to determine how hard-wearing a product is, as well as what the process to repair or replace parts is in the event that something does break down.

They can also help you see how easy it is to clean and maintain a machine, so you know what kind of work goes into prolonging its lifespan.

Ease of use

When shopping around, test out the controls on different machines, they should be easy to understand and use.

You should also consider whether or not you can install the front loader yourself, or if you’ll need a professional to fit it for you. Sometimes, the cost of installation will be included in the cost of the machine, so it’s worth reading the fine print to ensure you know exactly what you’re paying for.

Noise level

Most people accept that a washing machine will make quite a bit of noise, but this may be more of a concern if you have infants who need sleep in your home, or if your laundry is located quite close to your living area and bedrooms.

Some washing machines will list their noise level in decibels in their product description - this can make it easier to compare the noise across models.

Price

Is it worth paying more for a washing machine? A front loader can cost anywhere from $500 to over $4000. The more features you have, the more pricey your machine will be, so have a good think about whether or not you want your washer to have all the latest bells and whistles.

Consider water and energy consumption when you compare prices. A more efficient machine with 4 or 5-star ratings may cost more outright, but it may be more economical in the long run then buying a less efficient, cheap front loader washing machine.

The bottom line

There are many factors to consider when you’re browsing the appliance store for a new front loader, but prioritising your household's particular laundry needs should help you go home with the right machine that leaves your clothes and linen spotless.
