thought it would be! It heats my open plan home perfectly and I even have a void next to it and it pushes the heat past it to the downstairs. It was the best purchase I made for my new home! Highly recommended this brand and model

Rinnai SS850 Gas Fire
Goodbye Cannon hello Rinnai – What an honour, the first to Review the Rinnai SS850. After only 4 and a half winters with my Cannon Fitzroy and yet another breakdown this winter… Read more
only 2 months after servicing (which I have performed yearly), I had enough of the total unreliability of the Cannon. Feel free to read my review on the Cannon Fitzroy). I went out to my trusted retailer Flaming Mo’s in Cheltenham Victoria to peruse my options for replacement. Mike “Flaming Mo” was very patient and understanding of my predicament ( I purchased the Cannon from there but I must stress that my issues with the Cannon was not his responsibility, I insisted on the Cannon Fitzroy, it was my choice) Flaming Mo walked me through my options and I settled on the Rinnai SS850 with WiFi module as an optional extra. This model was of similar size to my existing heater so change over would be fairly easy. The lead time to install was about two weeks, which I thought was very reasonable considering it was the middle of winter. Fortunately for me, there was a promotion and I also received a free Rinnai gas barbeque. The SS850 works very well, the App allows me to set timers easily so I wake up to a warm room and come home to a warm room. Although the flame set is not as pretty as the Cannon, the heater itself; when in thermostat mode works extremely well and transitions from high flame to medium to low seamlessly and does a very good job maintaining my selected temperature ( only available with the wifi option). The fan also seems a lot quieter. The heater also seems to push the heat a little further into the rest of the house, a big win for me. I can already tell that this heater will be more economical with this feature. On expert installation, the plumber / installer walked me through the installation of the App and went through the controls with me. The heater comes with a remote control (basic functions only), can be operated from the side button on the unit itself or via the optional wifi kit and app. Another point worth mentioning is that these heaters now require an isolation switch for electricity to be installed which again the expert team at Flaming Mo’s organised. The only negative is I am having trouble accessing/ connecting via the “cloud” but this maybe more a problem of my technological illiteracy. In summary, the SS850 surpasses my expectations for heating ability and controlling. A new heater is only as good as the installation (thank you to the team from Flaming MO’s, Mike, Tony, and Dan and Timothy) well done gentlemen and thank you for expert advice and installation.
Rinnai 650 / 750 Gas Fire
This heater gets extremely hot and causes burns – This heater gets extremely hot and causes burns. No one at the store we purchased it from said it would get that hot. My daughter walked past it and… Read more
came into slight contact with the glass that's meant to be a guard and severely burnt her arm. After speaking to the shop who said it should be warm to the touch but shouldn't cause a burn I called Rinnai to see if there was something wrong with the unit. First call was to CUSTOMER SERVICE who read me the installation manual and said "Well it's a heat source so it's going to get hot", they hand-balled me to TECHNICAL SUPPORT who said the same thing and put me on to FIRST CARE as we have had issues with the unit in the past so they said FIRST CARE would have record of that. FIRST CARE said we are just booking agents and I'd need to talk to TECHNICAL SUPPORT for advice (I had just come from this department). FIRST CARE said they can only book in a job and wanted to charge me a call out fee. So basically this heater will burn a child and the company won't know if the glass should actually get that hot. Terrible experience, please do yourself a favour and look elsewhere! We should have got the Lopi fire place we were deciding between. We had this at an Airbnb which our kids running around it and no issues. Kicking myself now!

creaking noises for about the first 5 minutes while it's heating up. I have raised this with the Rinnai Tech team and sent a video but they want to charge me $220.00 to come out and do an inspection. I find the noises quite disturbing and I wouldn't have thought this would be right especially from a Rinnai product. Heater has now had metal bracing applied from Rinnai technicians but has not stopped the noise issue. Technicians advised this was occurring because the metal used to make the heater was very thin. This heater should not have passed their quality controls. Complaint is still ongoing awaiting resolution from their management. I always have to chase Rinnai for a response or update which is unacceptable. Customer service is woeful and the fact that Rinnai does not stand by their product or customers is disgusting. Complaint also lodged with The Good Guys where purchase was made.
