After 4 years coincidently just out of warranty the massage roller system has completely destroyed itself. The poor attitude of the customer service… Read more

is pathetic. It is almost as if they find it amusing. The rollers have ripped the back cover and the PU material is breaking down. The rollers are held together with a spring washer no way of re-assembling it when it falls apart as it has. Expect $1000 repair bill minimum. They will not even have the spare part sent to a location near me stating I would have to go and pick it up two hours away.

Do not buy a massage chair from these people !! They are absolute scammers! Constant problems with a a massage chair that was only three months old… Read more

at the time.

Many many emails and many many phone calls and they literally don’t care !

I have reported them to fair trading Australia! They expect you to keep paying for a chair you can’t use and they don’t put your repayments on hold while you wait for a technician to come out which can take weeks or months or while you’re still paying for the Chair! This business honestly feels like just a scam!!! Why else would you run a business like this with such poor poor customer service and horrible after sales service where they just don’t help you or if they do it can take months and months!!

Second time around chair got replaced FINALY and then problems with that chair now too pretty much straight away and again many emails and phone calls and still nothing happening. Only got a phone call back from a manager after I reported them to fair trading. Manager actually said this to me, we can help you if you take the review down!!

One of his staff denied he said this to me a few days later but I was in direct contact with that manager shortly after this and he never said anything about not saying that at all!!

Record conversations with companies to cover your bum because all good faith with this company is out the door!!

I have given them two options because as a consumer I refuse to deal with this company going forward! If they don’t take the Chair, I can give me my money back. I will be taking them to Qcat to get resolution!!

warranty. I had issues in which my chair didn't turn on and they sent out an electrician until the issue was solved.

The chair has V - Hand Technology, the rollers roll along your neck & shoulder contour which helps relief tight neck and shoulders. It also rolls all the way down to the hip and butt. It is so comfortable, a lot of friends and family have fell asleep during the massage.

The control panel is concealed which is a good design.

The chair also has an easy Bluetooth connection. The sound quality is decent.

The chair reclines 145 degrees and the size of the chair is decent. I feel it's big for me as I'm petit. We've had family and friends come over and test it, they all enjoyed it alot.

The quality of the material seems good as we've had it for a while now and it still looks new.

We bought it during mother's day sale and it's on sale again for Black Friday. The price hasn't dropped so I felt like it was a good purchase.

and help us repair our own body. We have compared many other massage chairs on the market, and the special feature of this one lies in the difference between meridian compression and other machines. In addition, it belongs to the rehabilitation level. So it is more soft on the body, many massage chairs on the market will be addictive, because the body itself will seek sensory stimulation, which is actually very bad for itself, the purpose of repair is to allow your body to continue effective recovery and repair, hoping to help more people. I would also like to thank QUEENIE of Doncaster Shop, whose enthusiasm and professionalism also helped us solve many problems of our products. In addition, I feel very reassured about Olympia, the professionals of distribution and installation are very good, and they solved many problems of our products, which is very good!

and it really helps loosen the tension in my neck, shoulders and lower back. I like that the chair scans my body before the session and places the massage around my shoulders quite accurately, so it feels more personalised instead of random. The zero gravity position is also very relaxing, and I often feel like I could fall asleep in it. It is easy to use, comfortable, quiet, and perfect for winding down after work.

Should I buy a massage chair?

If you’re in significant pain or have concerns about your health, you should consult your GP, physiotherapist, or relevant health practitioner first.

While massage chairs can't replace the treatment you'd receive from a physiotherapist or massage therapist, they're a great way to relax and unwind. Plus, you can use them at any time.

Whether or not a massage chair is "worth" buying will depend on whether you can afford one and how well it can help with your body tension or pain.

We’ve listed some benefits and disadvantages of massage chairs below.

Pros
Can help relieve tension, pressure, soreness, aches and pains.
Can promote good posture by helping each vertebra return to their natural alignment.
Can improve blood circulation.
Is a dual-function furniture piece, as it can also be used as a regular armchair.
Cons
Usually less versatile than handheld massagers, as they tend to mostly focus on the larger back muscles.
Tend to have a maximum user weight, so not everyone can use one.
Can only massage areas of your body that can be reached by its rollers.
Generally quite expensive.
Quite bulky, and so may not be suited to smaller homes or rooms.

What to look for in a massage chair

Massage styles and functions

Different massage chairs have different massage styles and functions - some will focus on one type of massage (for example, you can buy a shiatsu massage chair) while others will have a variety of massage types.

Massage chairs often include (but aren’t limited to) the following kinds of massage functions:

  • Kneading
  • Rolling
  • Tapping
  • Vibration
  • Heat therapy

You should also look at the number and type of pre-programmed massage options a chair has. They can have anywhere between 3 and 50 massage programs - the more programs, the less repetitive your massages will seem when you’re not in the mood to fiddle around with buttons.

While massage chairs can offer an array of health and wellness benefits, steer clear of companies that advertise their massage chairs as being able to “cure” an ailment or medical condition.

Massage intensity

The strength of a massage in a massage chair is dependent on a variety of factors, such as the number of motors within the chair (the more motors, the more power), whether or not the massage chair has removable padding, and the abilities of its rollers.

Here are the different roller types you can choose from:

  • 2D massage: This means that rollers work on X and Y axes, so they can move up, down, left, or right.
  • 3D massage: This lets you adjust the intensity of the massage rollers, and works on X, Y, and Z (diagonal) axes.
  • 4D massage: A 4D massage chair has rollers that work on X, Y, and Z axes, but offers more control over speed and intensity than 3D technology.

Over time, your body will likely become used to the intensity of your massage chair, so it’s a safer bet to go with a chair with more strength abilities and options so that you’ll make the most of it in the long run.

Massage areas

More basic massage chairs will generally just be able to massage your back, however you can find full body massage chairs, with some even having head, foot, arm, and hand massagers. These more targeted massage areas are usually delivered via airbags or smaller massage heads or rollers. Airbags provide a compression massage.

Massage track

There are different types of tracks that come with massage chairs that determine the range of the rollers.

  • L-track: An L-track extends from the neck to the gluteus muscles. They conform to the spine’s natural curvature and are usually somewhere between 120 to 130cm long.
  • S-track: An S-track extends from the neck to the lower part of the lumbar region, and also follows the spine’s natural “S” shape. They’re slightly shorter than L-tracks, ranging from around 75 to 80cm, but enable greater spinal stretching and twisting motions.
  • J-track: A J-track, also known as a Flex Track, combines the range of an L-track with the S-track’s stretching and twisting capabilities.

Size

Massage chairs aren’t exactly compact, so you need to check measurements of any chair against the space you’re intending to place it in your home. Some chairs have a space-saving feature that lets them sit up against the wall and fold out when you want to use it.

If you find that you don’t have the space or budget for a massage chair, you could opt for a seat massager. Seat pad massagers have massage functions and can be placed on top on top of a seat or armchair that you already have.

Reclining ability

More premium massage chairs will usually have a range of recline options, one of which is zero gravity.

A zero gravity massage chair positions your body in a gravity-neutral position, with your legs above your heart level and your weight evenly distributed along your body. This takes pressure off your spine and can help reduce tension and improve circulation.

Features

Machines will often have an array of features that can make them easier to use, provide a more relaxing experience to users, or let them offer more massage functions.

  • USB port: This lets you plug in your mobile device to charge it.
  • Bluetooth speakers: These will let you play music from your mobile device, so you can listen to music that helps you unwind.
  • Memory settings: These will let you save your favourite custom massages so that you can easily access them at the push of a button or two.
  • Body scan technology: This scans your body to identify tight muscles and determine how much pressure to apply, where to apply it, and which massaging motions to use.
  • Heat technology: Some massage chairs heat up in certain areas to help soothe muscle pain or soreness.
  • Aromatherapy: Some massage chairs have an essential oil diffuser so that you can better relax.
  • Chromotherapy: Chairs with a chromotherapy feature use ambient, soothing lights to help you relax.
  • Air ioniser: This is generally located in the headrest, and helps clear the air of dust and other allergens.
  • Storage slots: Storage slots let you keep the essentials - such as books, magazines, or a phone - nearby.
  • In-built wheels: These you easily move the chair from room to room.

Durability

Genuine leather is a popular choice for massage chair upholstery because of its durability and luxurious feel. However, synthetic materials are becoming more popular, particularly among high-end chairs. This is because your massage chair generates a lot of heat and movement, and synthetic fabrics can be designed to withstand heat and wear and tear.

Getting a heavy-duty chair is a good idea, especially if you’re going to use it frequently. Look for a massage chair with a modular design - this makes repair work (which can get expensive) easier and likely cheaper.

Ease of use

Considering the point of a massage chair is to help you unwind and relax, the last thing you’d want is a chair that’s confusing or frustrating to use. Plenty of chairs come with intuitive controls that are operated via a touchscreen or with a remote. Some massage chairs even have voice controls.

Price

Massage chairs are usually hefty investments; they often range from around $500 to sometimes as much as upwards of $15,000. Massage chair prices will usually depend on features, materials used, and the brand.

Because of the high price point of many massage chairs, many retailers offer interest-free or affordable financing options.

Before buying a chair, check how long the warranty is and what it covers. At the very least, it should cover labour and parts. Some manufacturers also offer a one month money-back guarantee, so that you can get a full refund if you’re dissatisfied with the chair you’ve bought.
