Stunning outside and in. Driving is an utter pleasure – Prior to the VXR I owned a VT and a VE. I got the commodore bug from my Aunty that absolutely loved and cared for her various models through the 70s,… Read more
80s and early 90s before she passed. I chose the VT and VE on practicality for my work journeys, but the VXR choice was based on aesthetics first (I wanted the VXR the first time I saw it), I then found my attraction to its looks cemented by its drive quality, features and tech. As others here have said it doesn't come with a spare wheel which is a drawback to consider - still, the instant attraction I felt to the VXR's look was the same I had for the Calais decades ago, and although people shunned the VXR (because it's a Vauxhall Insignia GSI, not a holden commodore at all) - I just don't care. This German built car is the best looking, driving and most feature rich car I've had the pleasure to own. My first non-Australian car, the VXR is a total buzz to drive. It's a gorgeous, responsive sports car. I live in the Adelaide Hills and the VXR handles the winding roads and curves tighter but lighter than any Aussie Holden I've driven. It's sexy as hell and feels refined in a European way that I quickly became accustomed to. This car is classy inside and out. I didn't buy it for attention but I quickly found out it's a head-turner after having more than 4 random people tell me it was a good looking car. Even if this had been imported as a Vauxhall Insignia GSI I'd be more than happy to own it. I'm just glad I do. I get the angst from people over GM abandoning Australia and this being pushed as a replacement when it just isn't, but this is an absolutely beautiful car in its own right whatever name it's given. Had it in for a service in June 2023. and found out parts are still readily available for it which is good.

occasions because of a low drumming noise on take off and when i tapped the accelerator at low speed. They said nothing was wrong until finally the noise became a loud grinding. Replaced under warranty. Next was a shift to park error where the auto trans assembly had to be replaced. Next was the Thermo fans constantly running error, also no temp reading on the gauge and no aircon compressor, takes 10 mins for fans to stop running after the car is turned off. Had the coolant temp sensor replaced , i was dubious as i had read other owners with the same problem had the Thermostat replaced. Well after 3 weeks of having the temp sensor replaced the problem came back, this time with check engine light as well. Back to the dealers and as suspected requires a new Thermostat. Fast forward two months and im still waiting to have it replaced. The new Thermostat is on back order apparently! No idea how much damage this is doing to my engine, gone into limp mode twice! Oh and now the old familiar groaning and thud coming from the diff! Took back in to the dealers who replaced it and low and behold they said its ok and cant hear anything. My wife hears it while were driving around. Well i don't thrash the car, and have it serviced on time as per log book. I fell in love with my car, loved the style , options and performance, now im just beyond belief.

foot down. It has a Turbo charged 2 litre engine that has all the power you would need. The engine is quiet although is done whine a little when idling. I am told this is the Turbo charger. But I got used to it and don't hear it anymore. I have owned BMW's and Benz's in the past, and while this vehicle is not a match to those it is still impressive for a standard vehicle. It is super fun to drive, and well built in every respect. Running costs are way lower than the luxury cars. In my opinion this is a wonderful family car that does not disappoint.

as economical as it is powerful. Suburban driving returns 6.8 litres per 100km with the car being used every day as a family workhorse. Clocking over 500 km per week it is easy to drive due to its low centre of gravity and six speed auto gearbox, which has a " Sport " mode. Rear load space ( with seats down ) is over 1600 litres and by any measure this is HUGE. Four tie down hooks keep Charlie the Labrador well away from where he wants to sit - the front of the car . Loads of safety equipment including Autonomous Emergency Braking and Lane Keep Assist along with six airbags give this car a five star safety rating. The wipers and headlights are both automatic and as with most new cars rear vision is not great but this is negated with standard equipped Rear Sensors and Reverse Camera The tech savvy in your family will love the infotainment set up with Digital Radio and includes Apple Car Play & Android Auto. A very stylish car with Alloy wheels and rear spoiler as standard. A side on view shows lines similar to a well known european brand ( poss BMW ? ) From new it comes with a 5 year unlimited km warranty and capped price servicing. Road side assist is for 1 year but extends to 5 years if serviced at a Holden dealership. Due to it being classed a " small " vehicle, insurance and registrations costs are lower.
Best points are its outstanding fuel economy , rear load space and overall low running costs.
It could do with rear vents for the air cond and rear cup holders.

long carry space with the back seats down, even longer than the VF [I buy/sell antique longcase/grandfather clocks]. For country running it is perfect, it hasn't missed a beat and no plastic bits have broken off. Up to 115K , bought with 45K on clock, regularly serviced, not thrashed. Looking to exchange for a low K example of exactly the same car as I do high mileage. Overall a really good comfortable car that I can't fault.

capped and still on orginal tyres. Having the top of the range model helps with my opinion somewhat , if you can afford it dont go for the base model ( your missing out big time ) , the kids love the huge panoramic sunroof and the leather massage heated and cooling seats are a bonus, the only issue has been that the rain sensor dosent work but thats fairly in significant. Also the growl from the v6 on startup is a nice touch.....

warm hatch category. I've driven most of the Astras competition which are very good, but this cars European roots certainly shine through. So glad to have purchased one of these cars at a fabulous end of Holden in Australia price. Having driven large cars all my life, I didn't want to downsize to a buzz box. The 1.6 litre turbo in this car is a little pocket rocket, I love it.

serviced at the dealer. The issues I have had with it have been various. quite a few times it went into limp mode for no reason. Once I drove directly to the dealer, put it on the diagnosis, reset the error code which told them nothing and sent me on my way. I kept losing water and overheating. They kept it overnight to check the head gasket stripped it abck only to let me know that there was a leak in the drain plug. New plug problem fixed. Latest radiator issue was due to thermostat that was not working correctly. No read on the temp gauge, aircon would not work nor would the autostop function. When you topped the car and locked it the fan would run for up to 20 minutes later. I had to wait about 3 months for the new parts to arrive. Then there was a recall for a brake issue. An easy software upgrade fixed that. I am now suffering with transmission and diff problems. At times it sounds as if there is a bucket full of sand in the diff as you drive. When that goes away then you get the thumping and shudders when you take off. Technician had a drive with me and said that it is a common issue and he has replaced some diffs. first thing is to replace the Oil. This keeps it going for a bit longer while the warranty runs out. I will be looking for a replacement during 2023

town with plenty of stop even more go. Fuel wandered between 6.5 and 7.5. We have persistent issue with a front panel just below the headlight popping but otherwise no issues. All was good until somebody turned right from the left lane colliding on the front left wheel and drove the car onto the gutter on the right side. $15K worth of damage (close to right-off) but they fixed it over a 3 month period. Now seems OK but that panel still pops. Fuel costs are not helping my like for the car (around $120 a tank) as it does require 95 octane and bad or cheaper fuel makes it cough. Would I buy it again, yes but the world has moved on and hybrids and EV's seem to be the order of the day now.
