remaining money back to AUD, you’re losing double the money. That was comparing with the UBank card that I also got for travelling in NZ. So, I used the UBank and it was way better, almost the same as what you see on xe. My advice is, don’t use it unless you need it for convenience, it’s from my painful experience. I lost almost $80 bucks from exchanging back and forth!

the Travelex card would be more convenient while travelling. That turned out to be completely false.
First, the exchange rates are terrible compared to other options, and there are hidden fees everywhere. There’s even an exit fee just to close the card and get your own money back, which feels incredibly unfair.
We got three cards for different family members, and the process has been a nightmare from the start. One card had a spelling error in the account name, which has been extremely difficult to fix. Another card constantly gets rejected because the system says the address is incorrect, even though the details were entered correctly.
To make matters worse, the cards are unreliable and often simply do not work when needed. When you’re travelling, the last thing you want is stress about whether your money is accessible.
Overall, this product has caused far more problems than convenience. Between the poor exchange rates, hidden fees, administration errors, and unreliable service, I would strongly advise people to avoid the Travelex travel card and use another travel money option instead.

to Bali, it cost me $500 in conversion and ATM fees. I would have been better exchanging cash over there... While it has been helpful in the past with a backup card in case one is lost and general reliability in obtaining money overseas and making payments, the cost seems far too unreasonable.

raise an AFCA complaint.
Details: I put money on my account for travel, and then tried to withdraw the money that I did not spend. I tried to access my money online, and couldn't. I was told to download the app to access it, and still couldn't transfer the money out of the account. After an hour with customer service I was told that there was a problem with their backend, but that the money would be transferred out of the account and into mine within 72 hours.
Two weeks pass with no response. I call back, the situation still can't be resolved. So I raise a complaint to escalate the situation. and am told that the request to transfer the funds was sent through to a team that just didn't respond or action it. I was then told I'd need to fill out a form to manually process the withdrawal. In 2026, a company apparently cannot get money out of my account digitally.
I fill out the form, and hear nothing. It's been 4 weeks. The amount showing in my account is now $0, but I haven't received funds to my bank account. I'm trying to confirm whether the money has been transfered to the wrong account, or if it's somehow in my account under a different transaction name. Customer service is non-existant and non-responsive.

accidentally. I waited for a call back, didn’t get one, so I rang again this morning only to be told the person was in meeting - no appology. Never got a call back. Clearly don’t want my business and not a great intro to how they treat prospective customers - wonder how they treat existing???? Can’t complain about the customer service because there wasn’t any. Looking at other reviews, looks like net prompter scores don’t mean much to this mob. I’ll go to another provider - gave me bad vibes. I’ll try 7-11 now or BP.

rate, and on top of that there was an additional fee. For around $295 AUD, I only received 4,900 THB — significantly less than what a fair exchange would give.
While everything may have been technically disclosed, the overall pricing felt very misleading and poor value. This kind of spread is excessive and not what most customers would expect, especially in Australia where you assume reasonable transparency.
I would strongly recommend avoiding this service and using a bank or a reputable exchange with fair rates instead.
