I hit a gutter and my front bumper came loose and was hitting the tyre APIA advised I had to wait 8 weeks to see their preferred repairer . As a… Read more
short term measure I taped the bumper up so I could drive it to an assessor I rang APIA . I spoke to a pleasant man in another continent ! I had to spell GOLD COAST as he had never heard of it . He advised that he could again check the closest insurer but that was done 2 days ago If he checked the booking I had would be cancelled . So I had a car that would take 8 weeks to get assessed and then weeks to get a new bumper . Do not use APIA ! Finally they wanted me to pay the $1000 excess now !!! This seems to be a rort asking upfront so they can earn interest while I have no car to drive for month

contacted Apia to find out how to cancel the insurance. We were told it was best to ring back after settlement was finalised. We did that however we were then told nothing could be done until they received documents proving we had the authority to cancel the policy. Fair enough although we we had been paying the policy for over 12 months). If they had told us that on the earlier phone call we could have already sent the documents. Each time we tried to ascertain what documents were needed we were given different answers. We emailed power of attorney and were then told we needed to send the death certificate and the certificate of probate. We did that. We received an email back saying more information was needed. It was clear that the email and attachments we had sent to Apai hadnt been read or understood by the 'assisted digital specialist' because all of the information they were asking for had already been sent. We sent another email pointing out that the information had already been sent. Thankfully we had a different 'specialist' reply and they acknowleged that Apia did have all of the necessary information and the policy would be cancelled. We are now waiting on final confirmation of the cancellation and refund of last payment. (Hopefully that would happen in the next few days) The inconsistent information, the lack understanding of the law and basic compassion made cancelling the policy a much more stressing situation than it needed to be.

are all true. I will check with aia or go back to Medibank. Read your policy very carefully if you buy from them , they are thieves . Misleading older people. The cheaper policies don’t cover you for much

They become arrogant, difficult to contact and impossible to deal with. The premium has raised dramatically and it seems that they have adopted a policy of hiding from customer and ignoring him. Beware when getting a renewal from them as there is all set on automatic. You may choose another insurer but they will still keep taking money on a policy that already expired (even if you did not renew it!) and pretend ignorance. This is no longer insurance for elderly people! I have cancelled all remaining policies with them as they need to learn how capitalism works.
