D20/12 string - Cost A$150, and then I added top of the line strings for A$50 and wow – This guitar is built of basswood on sides and back, but has solid top, so you can take advantage of this combination to end up with a mellow but… Read more
beautiful sounding 12 string. In fact it sounds better than guitars up to around the $750 mark .
I changed the strings to Thomastik Infield 210's (shop did the change for free). Wow. Don't keep the 'Alice' strings it comes with. They are pretty basic. My teacher compared it to his expensive brand name mid range 12 stringer guitar. It was better l, and sounds wonderful (especially in his hands).
The setup is pretty good with these strings as likely it lowered the height a little and reduced the tension.
Very minor rough fret edge on a couple of frets but nothing major. The pale wood they use on the bridge and neck makes it look good too. Amazing bargain for the price!!! Look after it.
I haven't found any bridge or neck issues, or anything else major in the build. Tuners seem ok but need a tweak from day to day. There are some minor finish issues but who cares at this price. Especially as a lot of 6 string guitars are junk at this price, and this is a 12!
This is a review of the guitar without electronics. I added a stick on piezo.
Maybe a pick guard would be useful but you can add one for $5 or so.
A keeper. Change strings and check set up and play!!!
FANTASTIC guitar – Well I can not believe the quality of this guitar it should cost 3 times the retail price..if this guitar was retailed in the 70's-80's it would… Read more
easily cost 3 times as much..Solid Sitka Spruce Top!..What the! A Gibson J200 uses solid Sitka spruce and of course solid back and sides too...but remember a Gibson costs 15 times as much!...I am lucky enough to own expensive guitars..and this guitar is right up there with them..China you are making some fantastic instruments...this guitar has great binding even around the neck.. not soft wood like some guitars in this price range...it has a one piece neck nothing like the cheaply made Epiphone Jumbos ( execpt for the "Epiphone EJ200 Elitist" but they are still $3000.00!)..this neck is superb even sporting a neck volute for extra strength like 70's Gibsons and Martin acoustics...The finish is just like you would want for a high end acoustic with very little finish so the wood can vibrate and breath...back and sides say wood is Agathis really a Mahogany..great tone wood..The guitar is loud clear and tone intricate with that richness of a Jumbo guitar...tuners work fine but can be upgreaded. ..I give this hidden jem a 9 out of 10 ....Buy one before the secret is out....
