is to toast and to toast EVENLY. My toaster will brown the top half of the bread and leave the bottom half six shades light. In fact, the Lift and Look function is used to invert the bread halfway through the toasting cycle. Very disappointing - have just ordered a S.....M 4 slice toaster - I'll keep you posted.

AVOID. Pump ceased operating after 2 months. I've patiently descaled it and cleaned it several times as per manufacturer's instructions to no avail.… Read more

My machine was an unwanted gift, so I have no receipt for warranty repair. Hence, I've just gone back to my little Sunbeam compact cheapy espresso machine that's still working great, albeit a bit more hassle with no grinder built inside. The positive - Great espresso when it worked (for only 2 months) Does anyone want any parts for their POS Breville BES870BKS? I'm stripping mine down and throwing the rest away.

your money on it. Its features sound great in the promo material, but it doesn’t work. Why? That st^pid collapsible paddle! It flops down, stays down and won’t come up again mid-way through the kneading process as required. After several heated discussion with Breville customer service (don’t get me going on that!) I was sent two replacement paddles. Same problem. I was sent a replacement machine. Same problem. Breville blames me and won’t help any more. But I’ve been making homemade bread for 20+ years, so don’t tell me! Collapsible paddles are a gimmick that does not work!

I purchased this dehumidifier expecting solid performance from Breville, and while it does extract moisture effectively, I’m quite disappointed with… Read more

the noise level.

On the positive side, it works well in terms of moisture removal. The 3.5L tank fills up quickly during humid weather — I find myself emptying it twice a day (morning and night), which shows it’s doing its job.

However, the noise is a major downside. It’s significantly louder than expected and not suitable for bedroom use, especially if you’re a light sleeper. I initially had it in a bedroom with floorboards, then moved it to a tiled living area thinking it might help — but the noise actually feels even more noticeable on tiles due to sound reflection.

For a brand like Breville and a product category that’s been around for a long time, I expected a quieter, more refined operation. Unfortunately, the noise makes it difficult to run continuously or overnight.

Overall, good performance but let down by excessive noise. I’d only recommend it for use in living areas where noise is less of a concern.

Does what it says on the box – Does what it says on the box, does it well and easy to use. We bought this as due to limited bench space, we thought a compact oven, air fryer and… Read more

toaster in one would be a space saver, and it is.

For the functions we use, it works well and cooks evenly and quickly. It's very easy to use thanks to the large display and well thought out user interface.

The included accessories are perfect for most uses and little features like the magnet rack catch are handy.

My negatives are the same as everyone else, cleaning... It gets a lot of use in our house, sometimes multiple times a day and can get quite grubby - The drip tray and racks are easy enough, but the rest is a pain - to be honest, I just wipe off what I can and leave it, but it would be nice if there was some sort of way to stop drips hitting the element covers.

I'd buy another if this one gave up though, so it's mostly positives.

I bought this machine to replace my Barista Express (which has been falling apart on me gradually over 5 years), so I'm uniquely placed to offer a… Read more

comparison if you are trying to decide between models.

Know that any of these machines are probably going to die within 3-5yrs, and its a bit of luck which component dies as to whether the machine is still usable.. and its unlikely a repair is worth while.. so although I am a fan of the Pro... there is definitely merit in buying the Express version because the $ value is superb.

But.. there are many reasons why you might choose the Barista Pro.. the biggest ones are it has a better grinder (vs the express which was a bit crude and got out of alignment from time to time), the Pro also heats up near instantly which is a luxury but still nice.. but more importantly its a more even heat which in theory (and according to reviewers) means less randomness when you pull a shot.. its just a better machine...

I stressed out when I first used the Pro, because a) the grouphead wont even turn beyond a few degrees.. I dunno why Breville make their machines so tight to use, but you don't actually need to turn it far, just if its snug its fine.. it will loosen up over the years.. but also when I first started making coffee my coffee was coming out terribly.. like.. even after dialling everything in, only a small volume was coming out.. I thought my machine was defective.. BUT... here is the cool thing about the pro.. you can manually adjust the volume of water that comes out when you click the 1cup or 2cup button.. so actually you can tweak things yourself which I have now done and feeling great! However that process even for a relatively experienced home barista took me quite a few hours and youtube videos.. a bag of beans getting it wrong.. but I have it now.. but if you are totally new, this could definitely be a barrier for you.. but it can be overcome if your heart is in it =)

Overall very happy.. just need to see what the longjevity is like, the more electronics on a machine the more risk I feel that things can fail.. but having had fancy brand machines in the past, I am very much a fan of the Breville range.

an error message 'attach steam tip'? I use the machine for one coffee a day, occasionally two, and it is cleaned and descaled regularly as reminded by the automatically generated message. I contacted Nespresso re this fault, and they were great! I can't fault them. I packed up the machine and took it to the post office to be sent off for repair four days ago, postage is covered by Nespresso. (I had to buy a box and bubble wrap from Bunnings for approx. $6.00). Today I have received notification that it has been fixed and will be delivered back to me today, just in time for the weekend! I have been very happy with my purchase and really impressed that I wasn't out of pocket for the repair, and the quick turnaround. Hopefully my machine will last for many more years.

used it because of this. I didn't know it should not take that long until I got a cheapy pressure cooker recently. I contacted Breville and as it was just outside of warranty (I paid extra for 2 year warranty too) they wouldn't replace the unit or cover repairs or refund. They offered half off a new replacement unit but why would I want that when it takes so much longer to get up to pressure? I wanted a refund or credit to buy a different Breville product from their webstore like their reliable espresso machines I have owned for many years. For such an expensive appliance this is pathetic after sales service. My Aldi pressure cooker at fraction of the price works faster and better.

good cup of coffee very simply and that is exactly what this machine does. It has produced excellent quality cups of coffee (usually 4 a day) with very little maintenance and very little fuss. It has been repaired 3 times during it's life but has always returned producing the same excellent product. Cleaning is easy and there is little mess from grounds. As someone who most consider to be a coffee snob, for a consistent easy to use device, I recommend this machine highly.

hand, but in excellent condition. My only issue with it is why Breville didn't leave the blue LED backlight for the LCD display on all the time when powered up. The back light turns off after 1 minute and this means the information on the LCD display is hard to read unless under a direct light - even then it's not all that easy to read for those of us with aging eyes. I have a small pen light I have to use to read the display. You can press any button, and the backlight will turn on, but I'm worried I may accidentally change the setting doing this and mess with the bread making. There is no option in the menu to set the backlight to always on. Would also be nice to have a light shining into the bread maker to have a clear view of the progress, but heat would probably preclude an LED light in there and we don't want an incandescent oven light in the small baking area. I also use the penlight to visually check on the progress.

Other than the LCD backlight issue - that seems so obvious for the designers to have left on or at least at half intensity after 1 minute - this is a great bread maker. Attached photos showing display backlight on and off - with penlight. ;-)

Thankfully none was near the cooker at the time! The preset cook functions leave us with undercooked meat as well. Cooking white rice according to built in preset makes it gluggy. There are no pressure cook instructions in the manual. I googled 15 minutes for red wine beef?? This toaster won't , 'Brown you off ' . It will brown your toast though . Our last Breville toaster lasted for six years and worked well enough to… Read more

encourage us to buy another Breville .

After a good two months of use I cannot fault its toasting performance . Bread of all sorts is browned to an extraordinarily even consistency . The relative slowness of this appliance is probably why this occurs . Seriously I would much rather wait an extra half a minute for evenly toasted bread than get stripped or burnt offerings at express speed . It does fling the toast up at a sometimes alarming speed but I've yet to have a slice launch itself off the kitchen bench .

There are a few things that might be of consideration though . The crumb tray is impossibly shallow , so much so that anything over the size of a split pea won't come out easily . It's really back to the old days of tipping the toaster upside down and shaking it if you want to clean it properly . This is especially so if you have the odd raisin escape from fruit bread or buns . The 'Select ' dial is on the side of the machine , the other buttons and lift lever are at the end . Clearly the toaster was designed to sit with its back against the wall . If your bench space is limited and you need to sit it at right angles to the bench top the dial is not easily seen , neither is the crumb tray able to be removed without turning the unit .

Small considerations really .

I like it , a lot , it doesn't dry bread out , you can choose different settings for crumpets and other breads and it does make a difference , it's quick enough and is not so big as to make a statement on the kitchen bench . Yes there are cheaper toasters available , few are better though .

stumbled. At first glance it's a great size. Compared to most other milk frothers it holds a considerable amount, and isn't lined with those toxic non stick surfaces. Very simple to use. One button. Push it once, twice, three times... depending on what you're looking to achieve. For a few months the appliance pulled its weight well...then it began making an ungodly amount of noise while in operation. We returned it... we were given a new one. It operated perfectly. Three months in, being used maybe 5x a week, it too began the transition to "noisy" with the identical issue. We spoke to the outlet who had sold it to us. They informed us they would no longer be stocking it due to the high rate of returns. "Would you like a store credit, or a different appliance?" ...they asked. "Will it continue to make this noise? Get worse? Explode"?... we enquired. "Unsure" they said.. We kept it...a large volume of milk...stainless receptacle. It's now almost been a year... the noise hasn't increased...the frother it still working.. For the price, we hoped for much better manufacturing....however, as I said, it's still operating fine. But that noise.....!

After using the Breville The Barista Express Impress BES876 for several months, I can confidently say it has transformed my morning coffee routine.… Read more

As someone who enjoys espresso-based drinks but doesn't have professional barista experience, I found this machine to be an excellent balance between automation and hands-on coffee making.

One of the standout features is the Impress Puck System. It takes much of the guesswork out of dosing and tamping, helping create a consistent coffee puck every time. Before using this machine, I often struggled with uneven tamping and messy preparation, but the BES876 makes the process cleaner and far more reliable.

The built-in grinder is another highlight. Freshly grinding beans directly into the portafilter noticeably improves flavor and aroma compared to pre-ground coffee. The grind adjustment settings allow for fine-tuning, making it easy to experiment with different beans and achieve the desired extraction.

Espresso quality has been impressive. The machine produces rich, flavorful shots with a thick crema when paired with quality coffee beans. Temperature stability has been excellent, and once I learned the basics of dialing in my grind settings, I was able to consistently make café-quality drinks at home.

The steam wand performs very well for milk-based beverages. It creates smooth microfoam suitable for cappuccinos and lattes, and while it requires some practice, the results are rewarding. Making latte art became much easier as my technique improved.

Build quality feels premium throughout. The stainless-steel construction gives the machine a solid and durable feel, and the controls are intuitive enough that new users can become comfortable with them fairly quickly. Maintenance is straightforward, with clear reminders for cleaning cycles and descaling.

While the machine occupies a fair amount of counter space and carries a higher upfront cost than basic coffee makers, it easily justifies the investment for anyone who regularly buys espresso drinks from coffee shops. Over time, the savings and convenience add up significantly.

Overall, my experience with the Breville The Barista Express Impress BES876 has been outstanding. It delivers excellent espresso, simplifies the preparation process, and provides an enjoyable coffee-making experience that bridges the gap between beginner-friendly convenience and genuine barista-style control.

2024 but multiple cracks appeared around 10 months later.

I took it back to TGG it’s an online only product so a wait of weeks followed without a kettle at home.

July 2025 - this time a large crack appeared within approximately 2 months of receiving the new replacement.

I rang TGG to ask if they could get the replacement in for me in advance, so that I can then swap over this faulty one as not having a kettle in the kitchen is quite difficult. Apparently they can’t order one in advance to replace this faulty one.

He suggested getting a different kettle and I suppose using the refund on the Breville towards the new one. It’s definitely a major fault with this compact kettle that the plastic lid insert will likely crack. It’s not caused by the user but the plastic that is used in the lid.

Eventually Breville posted me a new kettle. I hope they are able to change the plastic in the lid to something that does not crack
