shows no sign of fading despite 6 years of a LOT of use. The last 3 years I use them almost daily. So glad I won these. And the carry case is gold. Brilliant for travel and it's my daily headphone.
My approach to tech and appliances is get the best quality I can afford (relative to how much I an going to use it), and make it last. Which long term saves money, increases enjoyment a lot. And less consumption means environmental impact. But it means I research my purchases a lot first. But when I don't the result is a regretful unsatisfying purchase, which is wasteful.
I have always used earphones a lot. And I really enjoy good music, detail and good reproduction. So for me, good earphones are worth it. And I can't stand bad audio from free headphones, or bad bass exaggerating trendy junk made for teens (beats etc).
These are weightless (the battery rests in your neck), very comfortable, and super durable hifi grade gear. I really want to emphasise the durability which translates to value for money.
Obviously the on the neck style is of a certain vintage now, but if you want a style that puts zero weight in your ears, and very very long battery life, these definitely do the job, and an impressive clamshell carry case. They are still available at a fraction of the original retail price online. And with this design, you can't lose one :+)
Really the durability has been amazing. The battery life seems eternal and still isn't fading in ability to hold charge. Which fascinates me. Also the connections, and flat ribbon cables are still as good as new, testament again to the quality of materials. This usually is the failure point well before 5 years with constant use ... plus black means no discolouration from skin oils or dirt.
The experience was pretty extraordinary from an audio standpoint when they came out of the box along with the gorgeous design and luxurious boxing and accessories. The most memorable "unboxing" experience I've ever had with headphones. It was a moment.
They are still super precise and balanced . The hifi magazine reviews attest to this is detail so read those for an audiophile breakdown of those aspects. I won't bother here other than to say yes, they are indeed impressive. A real surprise for portable tiny in ear bluetooth. So rather than go into the detail of the actual audio performance and technical aspects, I'll just say that I've compared these to a range of pretty good headphones, including Sony in ear wireless (have the best noise cancelling modes but are heavier and tricker to fit right) and AKG and Audio Technica ATH ANC 33is (which are wired, but are my noise cancelling go to phones for all air travel - they have a massive following. See other reviews). And these are just wonderful as portable Bluetooth headphones that have just lasted and lasted for years... they noise isolate but aren't active noise cancelling.
UPDATE: A side effect of superlative durability was that over the years they have gotten quieter, so I cleaned the tiny diagrams where the sound come out. Improved volume. Then took the tiny black diagram out altogether. Risky move long term. This tripled the volume and clarity and detail is astounding now. A total transformation. Like new. Oils must have ruined the audio transparence of the wafer. I guess this is an issue all in ear devices risk suffering from eventually... first time I've done this intentionally.
((The main - and life limiting - draw back is the little ear tips fly off when they catch on things when hanging around your neck... bugger.. Soon I used up every spare that came with them, and my huge collection of spares from over the years - and I have now been sourcing aftermarket replacements which are hard to find at the correct diameter - just so I can keep using these earphones. That's a massive hassle. but I really want to keep these going for some more years. They are that good ... And researching a new pair is going to be mind boggling and frankly, I am afraid I am going to want to make a significant investment, especially as I am considering going up a step to the french masterpieces by Focal )).
I digress.
The attractive, slidy, and very high quality build carry case that means you can bring them anywhere.
They have never needed a reset or ever failed to pair. That's also unusual. And an advantage of simpler units. The range is 10 meters, but it more in practice.
Plus accessories like airline jack, cords to listen to them as a wired headphone with gold connectors if you want to feel their true performance (Bluetooth is a fraction of lossless)
Problems developing after 6 years, which are perfectly acceptable really: 1. I have had some crackly sounds and occasional blocking of bass at higher volume in the last year or so, but rotating the swivelling bit of the earbud seems to have corrected the electrical contact issues causing that... thankfully! 2. I solved the general decline in volume overall. See above. I think most in ear devices will have some variation if this issue...

sound. Bass response is ok for my small room but there is the option to add a subwoofer if more bass needed. Good looking speakers as well! Believe all the hype- these speakers are truly impressive. Paired with a new Rotel amp and pre-amp.
