I purchased a KitchenAid kettle at a premium price of $239, expecting quality and reliability. Unfortunately, after only two months of use, the… Read more

kettle malfunctioned—an unacceptable outcome for a product positioned as high-end.

What made this experience worse was the returns process. I had to travel to Myer to return the item, only to be told that a replacement could not be provided immediately. Instead, I was informed that I would need to wait approximately two weeks for the item to be assessed before a replacement could be issued. This left me without a working kettle and effectively forced me to consider purchasing a temporary replacement in the meantime.

The irony is hard to ignore: a cheaper kettle from Aldi lasted three years and came with a far smoother return and replacement process. The contrast between KitchenAid’s premium pricing and the level of customer service provided is deeply disappointing.

Based on this experience, I would not recommend this product or the brand. Premium prices should come with premium quality and customer support—unfortunately, that was not the case here.

you to make sure others make their purchasing decisions taking into consideration their reputation for poor service. Purchased January this year. First unit blew a motor first use. It was changed over by HN. Second unit now has a stuck speed switch. HN will not replace… told us to contact Kitchenaid or leave it with them to have it repaired. 4 weeks minimum which means no mixer at Xmas. So I have emailed kitchenaid. Started promisingly where they claimed we could send it back and it would be replaced. We asked 3 times whether it would be replaced with a new unit? No answer on 3 occasions. Received an email back finally apologising for delay. Didn’t answer our question. Starting to sense that the replacement is going to be a refurbished mixer not new…. Just refuse to answer our question. So here we are with still no response after 2 more emails. Now after feeling nervous about kitchenaid we are finding that their poor service and poor product quality is well documented. It also felt like they were going to send out a replacement, prior to us returning the faulty one but this changed. Not returning your emails is just poor service. In reading further anyone looking to purchase a kitchen aid mixer, make sure you are fully aware of the running time restrictions which are never mentioned by any HN sales staff. Well … I invite the head of kitchenaid to respond. We are still waiting for an answer on whether the replacement is new or someone’s old refurb… they just won’t answer the question. I note that kitchenaid monitor this site. No response whatsoever from kitchenaid. This is very worrying but completely in line with our experience so far. Here’s a further update… Still no mixer after receiving an email stating that kitchenaid were sending a new unit. I have now sent a further 4 emails chasing up delivery and no answer. This is laughable, how can this company provide such poor service. Just don’t purchase this companies products as their service is the worst I’ve seen. They monitor this site and… nothing just no response. What the hell are they doing? I’m now going to write to HN and provide all the emails to prove how difficult they have been. I will also attach them here so you can all see how poor this company is at service.

Update: After emailing HN they had to step in and discuss with their kitchenaid rep. He emailed admitting that the service team has misrepresented and incorrectly advised of procedures. He offered a replacement or refund through HN. We thank HN and the Rep for doing this but we just can’t accept the ridiculous waste of time and emails back and forward. Given the offer, we nervously replaced the faulty unit. Crossing our fingers. I would be more than happy to advise kitchenaid as to how to make a huge improvement to their customer service which in the long run will only improve sales.

The kettle has a cute, rustic look and is made of stainless steel, but there’s a fairly large plastic part inside that holds the mesh near the spout.… Read more

Since it sits in the kettle, it ends up being in contact with the water most of the time. This plastic piece is also attached to the handle and can’t be removed.

The quality of the unit and beaters are no where as good as the bench top mixer. The handmixer's 5 speed is slow on #5, the beaters are flimsy and the unit feels low quality. It does look good and is definitely quiet.

can be placed in the cupboard for safe keeping. It is designed to vacuum small messes ie: crumbs Spices Basically anything small. Does come with its 2 attachments - the crevice for tight spots and your flat nozzle. With its interchange battery, you have the best of both worlds. To date, I have only fully charged the battery once ( have had the appliance 3 weeks) granted, have used after meal preps and yes after messy young adults.

Pros: suction is great great handle grip standard on/off button. Don’t need to hold down on button when in use easy change of nozzle

Cons: my only con to date is the removal of the filter when emptying the canister. It is a firm tight fit. You do need to use a little force to remove. Actually had to YouTube to see how it is done. This may be an issue for elderly or for persons with hand mobility issues.

I bought this one due to good reviews plus it cost $599 on sale. Also when the bowl came off it kept spinning with the kneading hook banging around and my wife panicked ,but I quickly switched off the power, whew!Video attached. Apart from this issue its a powerful mixer and worked really well as the motor and transmission etc must be very good. I am just disappointed thats all plus the time it will take for the unit to be sent to NSW then assessed.Eta by JB Hi Fi staff was upto 6 weeks but I am thinking might be more due to the timing ie near Christmas.

Unreliable Product and Disappointing Customer Support – I recently encountered a significant issue with my cordless food chopper, and I feel compelled to share my experience to alert potential buyers.… Read more

After three years of use, the device suddenly ceased functioning, prompting me to reach out to the customer support team for assistance.

To my dismay, the customer support response left much to be desired. Instead of offering a solution or proposing a repair, they outright stated that the device was unfixable without even inspecting it. This lack of willingness to assess the product's condition was frustrating, especially given the premium price point of $239.

In response to my predicament, the customer support team's resolution was a meager 10% discount on a replacement unit. I find this offer inadequate, considering the expectation that a product in this price range should exhibit a longer lifespan. A cordless food chopper is a kitchen essential, and a three-year lifespan falls significantly short of industry standards.

The absence of an option for repair, coupled with the minimal discount on a new purchase, has left me disappointed and questioning the durability of this product. Investing in a kitchen appliance should come with the assurance of longevity, and a malfunction after only three years is both unexpected and frustrating.

Prospective buyers should approach this cordless food chopper with caution, considering the potential for premature malfunction and the seemingly unhelpful customer support. It is disheartening to invest in a product that falls short of expectations and receive a less-than-satisfactory response when seeking assistance. In light of my experience, I would hesitate to recommend this product to others.

The best ever – Hubby and I bought this blender to make some healthier options for ourselves as well as softer foods for our elderly dogs. We bought it in June 2024… Read more

and got it directly from the maker- KitchenAid Aust. We got the pink because its my favourite colour.

The pros: - This thing can munch up anything with ease! It has absolutely no problem with anything we've tried thus far, including cashew butter once we added more oil and used the stick thing you get with it.

- Its built to last! This machine will outlast me I'm sure. Its a very solid steel base and internal components and the blades are good solid ones too. Absolutely nothing cheap or flimsy about this blender. The rubber seals on the lid of the jug are also very thick good quality and create a great seal.

-The bottle/jug part is very good quality thick plastic that is bpa free!

- The jug is a very good size and allows us to make even the biggest of juices or dips or in our case- batches of dog foods.

- I absolutely love that you can get it engraved and get a choice of colour too. Its my first pink addition to the kitchen but it definitely won't be my last. Its such a joy to look at every day. I really underestimated how much joy a little pop of colour in an otherwise white and grey/steel/black kitchen would bring.

- It blends things really quickly and effectively. It gives a very uniform blend and the time it takes to actually blend everything is seconds. Esp super liquidy things

-It has multiple settings allowing us to use the best speed and setting (eg ice) for the specific thing we're preparing.

- There are no smells, stains or residues on the jug after use even when food has been sitting in it for a little while.

- The jug is very ergonimcally designed. Yes, its basic shaped but I appreciate the handle is big and thick enough to be easily and comfortably grabbed without hurting my weak wrist. Even when its full.

- The self cleaning feature is absolutely top notch!! I seriously cannot stress this enough. The machine is a breeze to clean and is done, again- in seconds! If all the food isn't off after the 1st run through of the cleaning I simply tip that water out of the jug, add new water and a tiny amount of dishsoap and re-do its self cleaning. I have not had anything sticking anywhere in the machine since I got it doing these 2 steps, including nut butters and meats that we blend. Its just that good!

-The self cleaning is very quick too. Means we can change the flavours and ingredients and make batch after batch in half the time it would take to use and clean a food processor and all it's fiddly little attachments.

- The dial is easy to turn and understand. Its just basic and has no unneccesary lights or beeps etc.

- It comes quite quickly, neatly packed and having bought from KitchenAid themselves, they filled out the warranty parts for us! That's saving me 'registering my product' which would need to be done online after creating an account with them if we'd bought it from a retailer.

- Excellent warranty time should we need it. 5 Years.

- They- KitchenAid pricematch and have an array of colours. This makes me more likely to shop with them.

- There are delicious recipes on their website that go perfectly with their appliances, its good for new ideas and things to try.

The cons: - The cord could be longer. We are very limited on space and length to power cords in our kitchen so a longer cord would be awesome. - Sometimes it tends to rattle (the jug inside the housing/base) when chopping chunky things like ice etc. Its nothing substantial or worrysome but I just thought I should mention it incase someone buys one and it does it to them as well.

refund the difference. The order came broken up over 4 weeks and several phone calls later. It was used twice before starting to squeak and then it blew up on 3 February 2024.

The returns process is a DISASTER and they do not give a crap about you. You are required to repackage and lug the mixer to the post office yourself and offer just a label via email to print.

Did you know KitchenAid had their best year in 2023 and made 21.3 BILLION DOLLARS IN REVENUE. These big companies do not care about the customer and only care about their sales.

They are NOT THE SAME QUALITY and the returns process is AWFUL. I am 50 years old and will never buy a KitchenAid product again. Nothing but overpriced JUNK.

Please note: I use capitals for headings and emphasis, not yelling ok? GRAIN MILL? WHY? Fresh flour... doesn't sound exotic, or even exciting until… Read more

you find out that, most of the flavour found in grains (the short-lived, aromatic parts especially) is largely removed in commercial milling operations in the head-long pursuit of flours with longer shelf life. Considering that 95% of global wheat production is just one species of wheat, (Tritium Aestivum) amongst many unsung alternatives out there, the easiest way to improve breads, pastries, and even cakes (both as a flavour thing and/or as a health thing for people with gluten "intolerances") is to simply mill it as freshly as possible, and dabble with alternative mix of grains.

Gluten-free bread on a cheaper budget is entirely possible at home with your own mill, but there's a growing body of research to indicate that it's not actually the gluten that's the problem facing many people's bread intake. (Naturally get medical advice for your particular situation if you are concerned, this is just an educational statement, and does not consider your particular circumstances).

If you're "getting serious" in your hobbyist bread baking, you'll want to either buy freshly milled flours (doable online) or make freshly milled flours yourself from actual grains. The difference is noticeable from the first batch you make, and that difference gets bigger as you shorten the time between milling and baking.

Note: Online "fresh flours" in Australia average 20-40% more expensive per kilogram than buying the grains yourself and milling them at home.

ANOTHER KITCHEN APPLIANCE? REALLY?

While our kitchen is not small by any means, we're at the stage where buying any more single-purpose kitchen appliances, is carefully weighed against the required storage space. This attachment takes significantly less space than dedicated impact/stone mills, which I'm sure is important to many people. If you have any Kitchen Aid stand mixer, (not just the Tilt-heads mentioned on the Kitchen Aid Australia site), just know that it works with our bowl-lift (a.k.a: "Professional") series too.

HOW IS IT TO INSTALL, USE, CLEAN & MAINTAIN?

It comes pre-assembled, the two screws that need removing to disassemble it and clean it out are tight but weren't ridiculously so... I've read in other reviews during my own research that the screws holding the unit together were prohibitively tight. However that wasn't a problem I faced. The included brush doubles as a screwdriver for these two screws.. but I honestly prefer to use a proper screwdriver.

NOTE: You do NOT immerse this with water, EVER! Forget the dishwasher too! Simply give it a light wipe down with a damp cloth, with a tiny bit of detergent (on the cloth) if you wish, then let it dry COMPLETELY before use. You'll be passing though some sacrificial grains (don't eat the flour afterwards) to get the machine into a usable state. Then you're ready to go.

INITIAL SETUP AND USE:

Mounting it to the Kitchen Aid does need a little gentle twisting to align the drive shaft, as well as the mount points with the stand mixer. I HIGHLY recommend ensuring that the attachment is fully seated into the mixer, and that the retaining screw tightened well (not excessively so) to stop it from wobbling off. Do NOT leave this attachment unattended when in operation, and keep listening to it... it'll tell you if there are any problems. If you need to leave the kitchen, simply turn it off until you come back. It's ok to do things in the kitchen as it's running (food prep, cooking, whatever) as long as you can respond to it quickly.

To start the initial grind, I set it to the coarsest grind, and put two cups of cheap uncooked rice through the mill to test. I progressively set the grind to finer settings re-passing the same rice through, at each pass. I intentionally used a slow grinding speed, (the manual says use a top speed, but I was more cautious). The whole unit never even got warm in our winter kitchen. However, as soon as you get to the finest (or even second/third-finest) grain setting, you may start hearing unpleasant noises of metal on metal, just back it off one notch when you hear that. That's as fine as you can go with the grains you're milling. Discard your initial flour batch to ensure no oil (the protective coat Kitchen Aid put on the mill to prevent rust in transit) is in your food, and no other foreign objects end up in your food. It should be good to use (for edible flour making) once that is done.

Cleaning the mill attachment involves a simple dry-brushing out of the flours (brush is included with the kit). I don't disassemble the mill for every use (I use it almost daily) but if you're leaving it for a while, I open it up, thoroughly dust it out, and stick it in an air-tight container with silica gel pack to prevent rust (you can find them in empty vitamin bottles, seaweed sushi sheets, and many other places around the home). If you're just changing grains, you'll need to flush the old stuff out by running a cup of the new grain variety through. Also, you'll probably need to readjust the coarseness setting too.

WARNINGS:

Now this does NOT do wet or oily seeds/grains (no peanut butters, no coffee, etc) it is only for seeds with moisture contents below 15% but for most casual flour making (wheat, barley, corn, rice, millet, rye, buckwheat, oats, etc), that's more than enough.

PERFORMANCE:

Honestly, you're not always going to get that insanely fine dust-like flour that you see in stores... you should expect a small degree of "grit". If that's a problem, sift the flour afterwards. That's exactly what most commercial mills do. However, note that a portion of that grit can be re-added afterwards to "reduce" the grittiness without sacrificing rustic flavours. Of course, you can skip sifting altogether if you're using a "full retention" bread recipe, or sift it all out if you want finer flour. Sourdough bakers will want to keep all the grit in for the natural yeasts it provides to their starters. The breads beyond that... can be adjusted to taste.

This isn't going to as quick as a dedicated mill appliance. To add further discrepancy, despite being told to run the mixer attachment on "high speed", I choose to run mine on slow, to avoid heat (even temperatures barely over 40C can degrade the flour) and because I don't need a lot in a hurry. I can do 600g of hard wheat berries in under 30 minutes on slow. It's reasonably quiet and doesn't bother me. Most of my bread doughs are made days in advance, so I can spare the time. It says not to do more than 2Kg at a time, then to let the unit cool down over 45 mins... I live in Canberra, and it's winter. My internal temp probe says my auger is a whopping 15C... so no issue there. For those using faster settings, or living in warmer climates may have to heed those warnings for best results.

ATTACHMENT PRICE & THOUGHTS THEREOF:

I bought the Kitchen Aid Grain Mill Attachment after reading "Flour Lab" by Adam Leonti (and others) which recommended more expensive milling gear.. and I hesitated due to the price. When I saw that the EOFY sale price from the Australian Kitchen Aid site was actually cheaper than AliExpress milling attachment "knock offs" that offered fewer coarseness settings, my interest increased.

Conversely, certain "fancier competitor brands" of milling attachments (l'm looking at you, Mock Mill) were over TWICE the sale price of this attachment.. and when I read the manual for both attachments... I found that they did EXACTLY the same thing, with EXACTLY the same limitations (no oily/wet seeds). Now it's POSSIBLE that the Mock Mill brand will mill to a finer powder in common situations, and make life a little easier... but the difference between the finest grittiness and ease-of-use between the attachments is NOWHERE near commensurate with the vast price increase.. unless you need the ultimate finest powder on a routine basis. So consider your needs carefully. I'm going the other way, where I'm embracing the rustic charm of grits and seeds... but pastry chefs looking to use fresh flours might choose differently.

Ok, so you need to provide a separate container to catch your flour with the Kitchen Aid mill attachment, (Mock Mill's attachment simply has a chute to push it into the stand-mixer bowl) but my friend with the fancy Mock Mill model says it actually kicks up more flour dust into the air than mine.. and containing that with the spinning mixer head is hard. That might be a consideration for those with breathing issues. Since the Kitchen Aid uses a separate container away from unused moving parts of the mixer itself, I use a tall measuring jug on an upturned Tupperware container to "shorten the drop" and wrap a tea towel around the milling attachment/jug junction, and bulldog-clip it into place to contain the flour dust. It works very well... and has less mess to clean up.

CONCLUSION:

All metal construction, 12 coarseness settings, easy to mount, easy to store... low maintenance, 95% of the function for under 40% of the price (when on sale) of competing brands. what's not to like?
