(that will follow). Ballina Hot Water Specialists were excellent from start to finish. Dane was clearly more concerned about me getting value for money than them making a profit. They made sure they extended the life of my old system as long as they could before replacing it. I cannot speak highly enough about them, their prompy response and support, clean and efficient work, everyhting we asked and hoped for and finished the job well inside the allocated time frame. Also, excellent pricing (and I was prepared to overlook any variance in return for the high service level, but they came in as Best value as well. If your in this area, look no further.

replacement tank got to just out its ten year warranty and it started leaking badly. Rusting my steel roof. I requested Rinnai if they would honour the warranty as the original tank was replaced as faulty new. They declined. I do not recommend these tanks. Goodbye Cannon hello Rinnai – What an honour, the first to Review the Rinnai SS850. After only 4 and a half winters with my Cannon Fitzroy and yet another breakdown this winter… Read more

only 2 months after servicing (which I have performed yearly), I had enough of the total unreliability of the Cannon. Feel free to read my review on the Cannon Fitzroy). I went out to my trusted retailer Flaming Mo’s in Cheltenham Victoria to peruse my options for replacement. Mike “Flaming Mo” was very patient and understanding of my predicament ( I purchased the Cannon from there but I must stress that my issues with the Cannon was not his responsibility, I insisted on the Cannon Fitzroy, it was my choice) Flaming Mo walked me through my options and I settled on the Rinnai SS850 with WiFi module as an optional extra. This model was of similar size to my existing heater so change over would be fairly easy. The lead time to install was about two weeks, which I thought was very reasonable considering it was the middle of winter. Fortunately for me, there was a promotion and I also received a free Rinnai gas barbeque. The SS850 works very well, the App allows me to set timers easily so I wake up to a warm room and come home to a warm room. Although the flame set is not as pretty as the Cannon, the heater itself; when in thermostat mode works extremely well and transitions from high flame to medium to low seamlessly and does a very good job maintaining my selected temperature ( only available with the wifi option). The fan also seems a lot quieter. The heater also seems to push the heat a little further into the rest of the house, a big win for me. I can already tell that this heater will be more economical with this feature. On expert installation, the plumber / installer walked me through the installation of the App and went through the controls with me. The heater comes with a remote control (basic functions only), can be operated from the side button on the unit itself or via the optional wifi kit and app. Another point worth mentioning is that these heaters now require an isolation switch for electricity to be installed which again the expert team at Flaming Mo’s organised. The only negative is I am having trouble accessing/ connecting via the “cloud” but this maybe more a problem of my technological illiteracy. In summary, the SS850 surpasses my expectations for heating ability and controlling. A new heater is only as good as the installation (thank you to the team from Flaming MO’s, Mike, Tony, and Dan and Timothy) well done gentlemen and thank you for expert advice and installation.

came into slight contact with the glass that's meant to be a guard and severely burnt her arm. After speaking to the shop who said it should be warm to the touch but shouldn't cause a burn I called Rinnai to see if there was something wrong with the unit. First call was to CUSTOMER SERVICE who read me the installation manual and said "Well it's a heat source so it's going to get hot", they hand-balled me to TECHNICAL SUPPORT who said the same thing and put me on to FIRST CARE as we have had issues with the unit in the past so they said FIRST CARE would have record of that. FIRST CARE said we are just booking agents and I'd need to talk to TECHNICAL SUPPORT for advice (I had just come from this department). FIRST CARE said they can only book in a job and wanted to charge me a call out fee. So basically this heater will burn a child and the company won't know if the glass should actually get that hot. Terrible experience, please do yourself a favour and look elsewhere! We should have got the Lopi fire place we were deciding between. We had this at an Airbnb which our kids running around it and no issues. Kicking myself now!

temps overnight, leaking water everywhere! I’ve had to divert it to instantaneous gas hot water (no tank) with an emergency roofing plumber. Unfortunately, there is limited property access so I’d need an expensive crane to remove/replace because it weighs >100kg. Therefore, broken system will be staying on my roof indefinitely. Most (if not all) of these Rinnai 20 solar systems have broken for my neighbours. If you live in Melbourne, do your research into frost proof systems & how to replace and repair. Needing to pay a roofing plumber to inspect any issues is an added expense.

creaking noises for about the first 5 minutes while it's heating up. I have raised this with the Rinnai Tech team and sent a video but they want to charge me $220.00 to come out and do an inspection. I find the noises quite disturbing and I wouldn't have thought this would be right especially from a Rinnai product. Heater has now had metal bracing applied from Rinnai technicians but has not stopped the noise issue. Technicians advised this was occurring because the metal used to make the heater was very thin. This heater should not have passed their quality controls. Complaint is still ongoing awaiting resolution from their management. I always have to chase Rinnai for a response or update which is unacceptable. Customer service is woeful and the fact that Rinnai does not stand by their product or customers is disgusting. Complaint also lodged with The Good Guys where purchase was made.

controller also is verry loud aswel when it decides to blow air , frustrating - pay the extra 2-300 and get a daikin, had technicians come 2 time, first time they replaced a chip(did not solve issue) second time they said theres nothing wrong with it, now they want to charge me. i have asked them to come and uninstall the unit and give me a refund but have just been getting ignored. Definitely would not recommend rinnai air conditioning at all , though there hot water heaters are good, maybe they should just stick to that.

to relight. A few days later, no hot water again. Plumber came back had a look adjusted something? And said should be all fine. Two days later no hot water. This continues to happen. Plumber contacts Rinnai on my behalf. Rinnai send different plumber out.what I think is the Main gas pressure regulator unit is replaced. A couple of days later no hot water again. happens at least twice more before Another visit, and I think they replaced the same part once more. Well this seems to have solved the pilot light issue. Unfortunately not the amount of water supplied. Plumber said this unit would provide same volume of hot water as the old unit it replaced due to improved heating technology.. 200+ litres an hour heating, @50l a shower you won't run out. (Family of 4) ok why not store less water if it can reheat much faster. Well, maybe that wasn't quite an accurate claim. Water runs out during third shower. Pretty disappointing. Not like you can just decide to go get a bigger one, not cheap throw away item. I don't know if the gas pressure was reduced to solve the pilot issue? As it takes a couple of hours to heat the tank water back up. Bit shy of 209l per hour as per product claims. Granted the water is nice and hot before it runs out. For family of four, this 135l tank does not seem to be up to the task.

Update Nov Rinnai offered replacement. I paid to upgrade size to 175 l..( The diff in price between the 2 sizes was more than if bought through retailer which was surprising) after two weeks of no further contact, I contacted Rinnai for update. Seems my case manager is MIA?? and a new person took over. Well she was very helpful. And I am not being sarcastic. After another couple of weeks [Name Removed] advised me there would be a delay. Appears the burner may have been less than perfect in these units. so there was going to be a delay in supply of tank with the new model burner. It's been a couple of weeks with the new tank all seems to be good. Upgrade rating to 4 stars as the larger tank is working as it should. As far as service goes, Rinnai were good at having the original unit serviced and offering to replace my original unit. Thanks [Name Removed] for cleaning up after the original case manager went MIA.

had plumbers back several times over the last 3 months and no one has been able to fix the issue as the parts sent each time don't work/ defective ( complete duds) .I have been told to just leave the Electric Booster Switch turn on, that means I am constantly using my own electricity to heat this Rinnai Solar Hotwater System model SE315AM 36 everyday which is very expensive as builder installed a demand feed metre on the property. I paid thousands of $ to have Solar Hotwater only to be paying a electricity company to heat defective solar system. No one wants to take responsibility for this and I am left without what I paid for( a decent working Hotwater system) This is affecting my physical, emotional and mental health.

I got Rinnai 315 litre WM (315 litre 30 Tube Stainless Steel electric boost) solar hot water system installed in June 2017 and it looked good at start. Less than one year, two tubes were damaged and they got replace without any cost to me. After 5 years, it could be earlier, I found out the solar panel on the roof were wrecked. It seem the pumper had not been working for a while but there was no indication anywhere except climbing up to the roof and check.

Waiting an authorised plumber to come for around 10 days. Less than 10 minutes checking. Here is the official charge:

$225.01 Checked over Rinnai solar hot water . Found manifold is faulty possibly caused due to sensor wire being broken. Quote: to supply and install new manifold, tubes and sensor wire with conduit $2900 installed.

After several weeks later, (affected by COVID). the labour cost of the panel replacement:

Replaced manifold, 30tubes and sensor wire under warranty. Tested and all working well. $567.95 labour.

Just hope it would last for 10 years.
