I purchased a premium SleepMaker mattress through David Jones. The warranty process was handled by Australian Comfort Group (the manufacturer behind SleepMaker). Unfortunately, the mattress developed a fault, and what followed was a lengthy and disappointing experience.

Over a period of approximately three months, I was required to go back and forth via email, with repeated follow-up on my part, to have my concerns properly addressed. The replacement options initially offered were clearly lower tier than my original mattress, yet were described as “equivalent” based on spring type and internal manufacturing cost. This information was not transparent and did not reflect the real-world quality or value of the product.

The only comparable option available to me, which was retailing for less than my original purchase, was treated as an “upgrade,” requiring additional payment despite the fault not being mine. The initial upgrade cost requested was close to $900.

During this time, I was sleeping on an unsuitable mattress and, at times, the couch due to discomfort, which significantly affected my sleep and daily functioning. This was particularly challenging as I was pregnant at the time.

Only after persistent escalation, with emails left going round and round in circles, was the upgrade fee reduced, and I ultimately paid a compromise amount of approximately $650 simply to bring the situation to an end.

The mattress itself may be acceptable initially, but the warranty process did not reflect what I would expect when purchasing a premium product. Customers should be aware that if an issue arises, resolution may involve additional cost, delays, and considerable effort.

I would encourage prospective buyers to consider not just the product, but how warranty claims are handled and the level of difficulty involved if something goes wrong with a mattress you rely on every day.

support from a few weeks in was never good, I have actually rolled out of it a few times, I have a very good supported base and when sitting in the side, the mattress compresses so much my butt is sitting on the exterior bed frame, I wouldn’t recommend this mattress to anyone.

claim. Despite the company refusing to replace it, then taking it to the factory, “repairing it” and then returning it to us, within in a matter of days it had completely sagged and failed again. There is nothing medium about the mattress. It is more like a sagging hammock. It has not held its shape and is completely unsupportive. I have had a sore neck requiring ongoing treatment since we bought it. We dread going to bed. We are absolutely devastated to have spent so much money, wanting to support an Australian company, and have followed the warranty claim process and still be left with an absolute piece of rubbish mattress. Do not, under any circumstances believe Sleepmaker’s claims about customer satisfaction. Our brand new mattress has failed twice, it is a completely unsatisfactory product and I will not be buying from Sleepmaker ever again.

regular rotations we found the mattress continued to sag. The edge support also weakened overtime also. Both of us noticed detriorating back conditions over a year or so. Upon investigating seems the middle has started sinking already and the plush padding is barely there and you can feel springs just under the foam when you sit on it in the centre. I only weight 54 KGS. You would expect a mattress to last longer than 18 months, especially as this was not cheap compared to the many brands on the market. The mattress is regularly turned and has a mattress protector on it. I have contacted Sleepmaker as it is under warranty still and they offered for someone to collect it for inspection next month but it will be away for at least 2 weeks. Have declined as it is a long wait until collection and also have nothing else to sleep on in the interim, so looking at new mattresses of another brand to replace it which is not ideal since it is only 18 months old. Can see why Myer are no longer stocking Sleepmaker mattresses.
