section broke about 6 months ago, however, we could live with this. Unfortunately the kettle lid broke this week. I did take all the necessary details, but because we moved everything is still in boxes, so I could not find the receipts. I remembered that I did buy a kettle from Smeg which was not the kettle I bought, but one for my daughter back in 2017. This kettle has been replaced by Smeg 3 times since purchase and a new one which is white, well the paint has come off. The women that helped me basically said tough! She did not tell me any options about repairers and was very rude. By reading reviews I can understand they must get many bad experiences. The purchase of these 2 products was not cheap and you would expect Smeg being so expensive would have better quality products.

Poor quality. Mine lasted just over a year before it started leaking around the water level gauge. Checking online, it seems to be a common issue. The kettle looks the part but drops the ball on quality. In short: all fart, no sh*t.

Very poor build quality for such an expensive item. 5 year warranty – 3.5yrs old Refrigerant gas leak. The Warranty should cover and SMEG have been real professional so far. Will update as this progresses. Update- we received a brand new fridge from SMEG. I can’t fault their warranty, and they were easy to deal with.

broke about a year ago from every day use too. SMEG customer service are hopeless. My paperwork says there's a 10-year parts and labour warranty on the motor, however, when I spoke to the incredibly rude receptionist, she's saying they'll only cover the cost of the part, if it's the motor. Explained to her that the paperwork with the machine stated labour and parts, but she adamantly stated it was parts only. We've had the unit break down twice in the 2-year warranty period - in which the service repairman had found plastic debris - not from anything we'd put in the dishwasher though (wrong colour and located IN the machine), so it was a dodgey unit from the beginning. Now if we turn the unit back on at the power, it runs without being turned on - plus the awful burning smell coming from it indicating an electrical fault. Tried asking the (did I mention incredibly rude) receptionist at the SMEG service company, but she couldn't provide any guidance on what it might be. Surely, by the sounds of a fault, someone should have some sort of an idea, but service departments don't want to tell you anything over the phone anymore - customer service it awful. A $160 charge is too much especially when they wouldn't cover the cost of that charge if it does turn out to be the motor! Would NEVER buy anything SMEG again! Not just because of the unit, but also because of the TERRIBLE customer service. Our Whirlpool unit never skipped a beat until it died after about 14 years. Boo to SMEG. Would give it a zero if I could.

Guys, expecting a premium product for the premium price I paid—nearly double the cost of other brands. Instead, I got a product that, in under two years, started severely rusting on the exterior. This is supposed to be a high-end appliance, yet it’s deteriorating like a cheap knockoff.
Before purchasing, I even reached out to Smeg directly to ask if there were any known issues, as I was about to invest a significant amount of money. Of course, there was no response—now I’m left with a rusting, unsightly mess in my kitchen.
When I tried to claim a repair or replacement through Smeg’s so-called “warranty”, I was flat-out denied with the excuse that “rust is not covered.” To make matters worse, I paid for an extended warranty through The Good Guys, which was utterly useless. So, in addition to being sold a defective product, I was also sold a worthless extended warranty that wasn’t worth the paper it was written on. Every time I use it and clean it the devastation is relived - hence writing this review.
Under Australian Consumer Law (ACL), a product must be of acceptable quality, meaning it should: ✔ Be fit for purpose ✔ Be durable and last a reasonable time ✔ Be free from defects
A high-end oven rusting within two years is a clear breach of these guarantees. I realise now that Extended warranties are often a scam because consumer guarantees under ACL apply regardless of any additional warranty you purchase. Companies should not refuse repairs or replacements for major failures like this.
Smeg and The Good Guys have both failed to honor their obligations under ACL. If you experience this issue, do not accept their refusal—lodge a complaint with the ACCC or your state’s consumer affairs body. I didn’t realise this was an option!!
Final Verdict – AVOID SMEG AT ALL COSTS! • Inferior build quality—rusting in under two years! • Warranty is useless—they refuse to cover rust, despite it being a clear manufacturing defect. • Misleading sales tactics—they’ll take your money but won’t back their product. • Extended warranties are a scam—Australian Consumer Law already protects you, but they won’t tell you that!
I regret this purchase completely and strongly urge others to avoid Smeg unless you want to throw thousands of dollars down the drain. If you’re considering a high-end appliance, go with a brand that actually stands behind their products!

and wanted it sunken into our new timber kitchen bench so it wasn't always in view. I have definitely regretted my purchase as I can only use 2 burners at a time due to its diamond shape. The designer was clearly a male who doesn't cook with a frypan or wok! I also found that the printing on the knobs almost rubbed off (like another review I've read) after less than 2 years of use and had to get a replacement (which is only marginally better) even though I'd not used any harsh abrasives. Dealing with Smeg was not an easy process either. I was surprised as I bought SMEG because of the supposedly good name for their quality but I'm sad to say that I am disappointed with my experience and would be very reluctant to recommend SMEG to any of my friends. So be warned! My only positive was that The Good Guys at Robina were awesome during my negotiations with SMEG and very understanding.

sometimes doesn’t work and then other times it works straight away. You have to hold down the gas lever for ages (30 seconds or more) and let the igniter still keep clicking away for it to continue working otherwise it does not ignite. Then the gas will just go out mid-way of cooking, it is so frustrating. This happens across all the burners. It has now come to a point where it won’t ignite at all. My advice is to stay away from SMEG cooktops! I had left a review on SMEG’s website but has since been deleted so now I wanted to share my experience.

it started to heat up for 5 minutes and then dead! And it's locked! I found the switch for the oven in the meter box was down and could not be pushed up again with indoor isolation switch was on. When I switched off isolation switch the outside switch could be switched on. Talked to an electrician. He told me it's definitely the oven problem, not the cable or switch problem. Tried to talk to Smeg service. They said it is out of warranty and they charge call out fee for every 15 minutes! I guess no one is using pyrolitic function every day or very often? I tried to use it for the very first time! Terrible quality of the Smeg oven? Will never use this brand again!

first 12 months were trouble-free, but over the past three years, I’ve had five service callouts. Each time, I’ve been without a dishwasher for 3-7 days, depending on when it breaks down. Four of these repairs were due to a faulty door latch—which is still used in current models—while the other was a draining issue that occurred two years ago and hasn’t recurred.
As a mum of a disabled child, my time is already stretched thin, and I rely on a dishwasher to lighten the load, not add to my stress. I have reached out to Smeg, and while they have been reasonable to deal with, their support hasn’t been particularly helpful. On the other hand, the service agents have been fantastic. With just under 12 months left on my warranty, I’m curious to see what happens next. However, based on my experience, I’m unlikely to invest in a Smeg appliance again.
