Recommendation: Close Steam Valve Gently! (+ repair suggestion) Yes, this one also started leaking from the steam pipe shortly after warranty period… Read more

ended. First a thank you to posts from Trev QLD and Vic S. on repair suggestions (do look those up first if you have a go at repairing) Repair summary: I inserted a tiny piece of Aluminum foil (folded a couple of times) below the red plastic steam stopper. First, I thought I was about to break the lid pulling it off after removing the 2 screws at the back. In the end, 2 clips did "give" without breaking. I attached a photo marking those 2 clips. You may be able to push them in from the side to avoid that risk. To get the steam valve out, after removing the 3 screws, it did not want to come out. Note that the white "rod" from the steam valve freely slides in and out of the knob on the housing (first I thought they were firmly connected, and was puzzled how to get it out). The knob stays put, you need to pull the valve out at an angle, the white plastic rod being the primary item resisting. Finally able to unscrew the valve "tap" from its seat, the red stopper emerges. It sits inside a cylinder recess of the tap, and barely stuck out, say 1/2 mm. That is the problem, the red stopper is no longer able to seal against the face of the mating valve seat. I took out the red stopper, and inserted a tiny piece of Al foil, folded a couple of times, and put the stopper back in (in reverse to make use of the other side of the stopper). Now the stopper sticks out say 2mm (sorry, missed chance to take a photo). Put it all together, and it works a treat (though only used it a couple of times so far). Key insight: the harder you turn the steam knob to the off position, the higher the force on the red stopper. From now onwards, I will only turn the steam valve off GENTLY - no more than is needed to stop the steam, and I suspect it will last for years to come.

in, got one good coffee out of it after finding that this is a common problem for new coffee machines. My partner tried for a hot minute, and I like a foolish male said they where doing it wrong.

It was freaking near impossible and I have made coffee before in hospitality. To get it in, I had to hold it by the side and fully push it in for it to go the center or it would leak coffee.

Waited 3 days, tried to make another coffee and now it will not fit into the group handle at all. Looking at the actually turn and slide mechanism, it seems that the plastic groove it fit into would not actually fit the metal groove part on the group handle.

Extremely disappointed, returning and never buying Sunbeam again.

shattered. See pic.

First time this happened was not long after the grinder was out of warranty. After a plethora of email ping pong with Sunbeam (lack of) Service they finally relented & sent me a replacement under the ACCC rules.

This time I can’t be bothered going through that process again.

Other problems with this coffee grinder are as others have reported: *Grinds get caught in the bend resulting in an uneven distribution, & grinds are left behind in between grinds which can potentially become stale. *Coffee grinds exit the shute in a spray resulting in a mess on the bench top.

So it’s goodbye Sunbeam - unless you read this & wish to make amends, again.

<edit> The other two pics are for Sunbeam’s reference. It’s the first thing they ask for if they choose to make enquiries.

a number of different machines over a long period so consider myself relatively experienced in using home espresso machines). Unable to comment on manufacturing quality of the Sunbeam unit as I doubt I will use it long enough to properly assess. My major problem with the unit is its weight - even with a full tank the torque resulting from engaging the handle with the machine tends to turn the machine when I try to lock the group handle in. There is difference of 5kg between the weights of the two units when each have full tanks - needless to say, the Sunbeam unit is the lighter of the two. Would not recommend the Sunbeam unit.

wasn’t I surprised… I tested both with the same dishes (whole chicken, pork belly, rissoles, bacon) at the same settings and to my surprise – you couldn’t tell a difference when they were cooked. Save yourself some $$ and don’t overpay for the appliances that will give you the same result. Do I need to mention that the viewing window is just great. And there is a light as well! Now I wish my air fryer would have these. The only downside is that the basket and window cover are not dishwasher safe (tray is). But saying that, it’s only 3 pieces that need to be washed. My other brand has 5 (much bulkier as well), which take up a whole dishwasher, and instead of being a bless, it is a hassle and water + energy waste. Insanely great air fryer!

drawer slides in and the frame sits around the seal. It broke away in a few pieces, and it actually part of the body of the air fryer, so can’t be fixed or parts replaced. We contacted Sunbeam about this, as we felt that for the actually body of the air fryer to break after just 18 months (and a cost of $350), this shouldn’t happen. You wouldn’t expect a microwave or other appliance at the same value to break at this age either. Sunbeam just came back to us and said ‘apologies but it is out of the 1 year warranty, so there isn’t anything they can do’. So disappointed as we researched a lot before choosing this one, and feel really let down by the unfixable damage and no offer of any resolution.

dehydrating can not dry meat with any fat - in fact it will assist in going rancid and a whole lot of bacteria. Use a little water or dry fry the meat. Also when drying fruit and veg place in a glass container not plastic. Dried meat is better in a material bag and hung till required for use. Tried and error - found plastic is bad and will start the white fluff (mould). Safety first always please. Now I have this down pat, my Food Lab DT6000 is getting a real work out.

The Sunbeam Kyoto Kettle and Toaster range is aesthetically appealing and positioned as a premium offering. However, the overall build quality does… Read more

not align with its price point.

The kettle raises safety concerns. On several occasions, the lid has unexpectedly popped open during boiling. If left unattended, the kettle continues to boil until manually switched off or the lid is closed. This appears to be from the lid’s construction, primarily plastic, including the latch, with a painted finish rather than aluminium on the exterior.

Additionally, the lower section of the handle, which is covered by a plastic casing, has expanded and detached. It will become impossible to refit properly. Since then, the kettle has begun leaking water onto the power base, presenting a clear safety hazard.

As for the toaster, while I have not experienced any functional defects, it feels relatively cheap in construction. The top surface is not aluminium but a painted, heat-resistant finish that is prone to discolouration and can't be easily cleaned.

After just over a year of use, the longevity of both appliances appears questionable. Given the recurring feedback online regarding lid failures and leakage issues, it is surprising that Sunbeam has not issued a recall or formally addressed these concerns.

Purchase online via Myers in September 2024 - I'm not expecting them to provide any solutions based on previous reviews.

for 4 in it too easily like most air fryers, but great for certain things for sure

Only issue i have is if you use two trays at once the top one chars and the bottom one doesnt cook through at all so heat circulation is clearly not up to scratch in air fry mode. Make sure you swap tray position mid way through to avoid this.

Very happy with my purchase after several months

Rate my experience with the Sunbeam AFP4570DF air fryer? Hmmm. Do I click three stars for "OK" or do I click two stars for "Bad". That's a tricky… Read more

question, because I would have clicked "Good" or "Excellent" until the unit DIED at the thirteen month mark.

I bought the Sunbeam AFP4570DF after five years of good service from a Philips XXL HD9651/91 (great for cooking, very hard to clean!). After extensive research I chose the Sunbeam AFP4570DF with its viewing window, internal light, large capacity drawer and sleek design.

So, how did the Sunbeam AFP4570DF perform in my kitchen? Pretty good overall.

The drawer was always a little problematic and not as smooth to slide in and out as you might expect.

Steak? Not as good as the Philips XXL HD9651/91, and definitely not as good as my Weber Q3200N!

Frozen chips, frozen fish etc? Awesome. Much better than the Philips.

Sourdough toast? Great. Better than any toaster.

"Stir fries"? (Place vegetables along with meat, fish or poultry into a liner together with spices and/or sauce and just let it cook). Great!

Small-medium sized roasts with veggies? Great.

Keeping food warm? Great.

Cleaning? An absolute breeze. Always washed the drawer components by hand not in the dishwasher. Always cleaned the machine with a soft cloth after use.

And then one Sunday night while roasting pumpkin, dead. D.E.A.D. Tried letting it cool down. Switched it off. Unplugged it. Moved it to another power point. Nothing. An internal fuse perhaps? Not sure. But it was dead. So disappointing!

I contacted both the retailer and Sunbeam by email. Heard nothing back from Sunbeam, but the gem of a store manager replied to my email first thing Monday morning and offered a replacement of my choice. Wow.

This time I chose a Philips Airfryer Series 5000 XXL. Paid a little more. Two year warranty instead of one. And we added a two year back up plan for just $65.

So far, so good. Wish me luck, please.

This was just before the baking started. I took out the pan, removed some dough, cleaned up the considerable mess and put the pan back in onto bake. I will be interested to see how this turns out. Better improvement then the last model – Order this 12:1 Sunbeam to replace our Multifunction oven and air fryer. The old oven was a mean machine, excellent air fryer and long lasting. That… Read more

was the main reason for me to upgrade to 12:1. We ordered through Mitch’s and Brown in Geraldton.

We worked on a minesite so the usage of the 12 and 1 is 24 hrs and with so many team members on both day and night shift, we have opportunities to fully test this oven. More often than not we don’t clean the oven, basically we just cover the bottom tray with foil and that about it. The window cleaning is easy, just a wipe with detergent.

The last three days of using the 12 and 1 appeared to be easy to clean. I did notice we need to do the preheat or prime the oven few time a before the smoke and a Lee go away. After that the was good to use. The digital readout is easy to see and navigate, I did not like turning the dial from the previous oven

The noise factor on air fryer is much quieter, and I do noticed the unit provide a much better heating. So far we only used two main function: air fryer for cooking chips and sausage rolls, and the is pizza.

The light function is definitely good and must for all mini oven. Overall it a nice compact oven and if it built like the last oven; which I already can tell it is. Then this one will last for a few years.

another one and ended up with an origins dual espresso machine. Out of the box, it appears nowhere near as heavy a build as the 6910, plastic parts against brass. Very simple instructions, for the most part, correct. Two things missing are a pressure gauge(helpful)and a milk temperature gauge (essential), obviously left off to reduce cost. Instructions state grind size dictates shot time, I set the grind at #21 and the shot time was 17 seconds. Trying to gauge milk temperature by hand is rubbish. Buy a milk thermometer, no guesswork needed. Beans were Aldi Luxe blend, at $30kg, excellent value and quality. From the first cup, really good crema, sweet coffee, velvet milk, at the right temperature. Very satisfying. M/C longevity? One of the reasons I didn't buy Breville, I'd love to give an update down the track that is as positive as now.

Gets hot, works well – The ReversaGrill was given to us for testing. The ReversaGrill strongly reminds me of the Sunbeam electric frypan that my mother has been cooking… Read more

the family roasts in for about 50 years - and yes, the frypan has actually lasted that long. The probe on the ReversaGrill that you plug in is almost identical to the one on the frypan, and the ReversaGrill - particularly when it has the flat side up - simply looks like a larger version of the frypan but without a lid (and more on that later). Whilst the cooking area would be about twice that of my mother's electric frypan it'd have about 40% of the cooking area of my hooded gas BBQ and is probably a bit smaller than something like the Weber Baby Q.

In line with YouTube video protocol my children forensically unpacked the grill and reported to me that it was well protected but without excessive packaging. They also quickly worked out how it went together, including the safety latch.

We used the Reversagrill indoors (under the oven's rangehood so that the house didn't fill with smoke) for a variety of meals - bulgogli (which worked really well on it), sausages, chicken, sliced vegetables, fish and the real test, some fairly thick steaks. We mainly used the flat side and not the ridged one. My concern with the Reversagrill was whether it would spatter oil all over the place (as it doesn't have a lid) and if it would get hot enough to put a char on the meats. The concern in relation to heat was unwarranted as, when the control probe was turned up to "Max", it quickly charred the chicken we first tested out on it. We'd usually use a hooded gas BBQ for steaks so I was interested to see how they'd turn out on the ReversaGrill - the answer was really well: the grill got hot enough to char the outside of the steaks but have the inside medium rare. I was quite impressed by it - I'd usually have the gas BBQ at over 200 C to get that type of char so it suggests that the grill did get at least that hot.

There were a couple of areas for improvement with the ReversaGrill that became apparent when we did the steaks. Whilst I was impressed by how they were cooked (charred outside, still juicy inside) which indicates that the ReversaGrill got to a high temperature, I was surprised to discover that my family were less impressed with the steaks - they said that the steaks were less tasty than when done on our Weber Genesis hooded BBQ: because speculated one, they weren't being smoked as well and the flavour was going up the extractor fan. That mirrored my own thoughts when we first unpacked the grill, which was that it could do with a lid to stop spatter and keep heat in - so, more like my mother's electric frypan. The other issue is that of temperature control - the control probe simply has markers of "Min", "Med" and "Max" along the dial, without any indication on the grill to explain what temperatures those settings, or any between them, equated to. (On checking the manual I note that it says that at "Max" it's approximately between 195C and 250C - that's really not precise enough, and it may not be doing those temperatures in any case - without an accurate gauge you simply wouldn't know.). As I noted above, when we do steaks there's a minimum temperature that I'm aiming to get the grill to but with the ReversaGrill there was no way of knowing if I was anywhere near that so I turned it up to "Max" and waited to see how it worked. I'd considered seeing if I could borrow an infrared thermometer to check the temperatures at the various settings and I may yet do that. The manual does say that the grill is 2400W (NB, the online description says both 2200 watts and 2400 watts - which is it?), which given that a single bar heater is 1500W suggests that the ReversaGrill can get pretty hot.

The "DiamondForce" part of the name relates to the non-stick coating, which purportedly includes diamonds. Whatever the case, you shouldn't be using metal implements on it and my experience with non-stick surfaces over the last 30 years is that I'd prefer to just have a plain metal surface that I can season, as all of the non-stick surfaces have eventually peeled or worn off.

So, it's big enough to do a BBQ for a small family or a grilled breakfast, the reversible sides give you the option of putting grill marks on your food or cooking things like eggs on the flat side, it heats up quickly and appears to get very hot and it works well for grilling. Cleaning it is pretty straightforward. It also appears to be pretty durable and you could probably take it with you if you went away for a weekend and wanted a non-gas grill. But you'll need to use it outside or under an extractor fan and it would be an improvement if there was some indication of the actual temperatures it's at and if there was some kind of lid for it. I also think that for safety it needs a warning light when it's on, as the red light only cycles on and off to show when it's heating and there are no visual cues - unlike with a gas or charcoal BBQ - that it's actually at a very hot temperature, so I'd be keeping it well away from little kids fingers.

Doubts over how long it will last – Purchased from Harvey Norman 18 months ago. Used to make 2 cups a day and was fine until alarming mechanical noises when pour should have commenced… Read more

followed by lack of pressure and ‘pulsing’ noises. Originally this was a ’special price offer by HN ($445) and we took out ‘Product Care’ for an extra $80 – not worth it, but more about that elsewhere. This model is discontinued but the same HN still had 2 in stock, at $749. Now here’s the rub. If you accept a refund, you only get $445 – the’ good deal’ only applies to the initial purchase, the terms don’t carry over and apply to any future problem resolution. BUT Australian consumer protection law makes it plain that the the purchaser is entitled to a replacement if the identical model is available (which it was) if it is a major, as opposed to a minor fault. A major fault is something that cannot be fixed in a reasonable time, something that, had you known about it, you wouldn’t have purchased the item in the first place. It took 70 minutes of escalating argument with HN before I left, with a new machine, at no cost. Short of the thing exploding into flames, I cannot imagine what could be more major than a sudden loud rattling noise followed by a failure to produce pressure to make coffee. There’s a heater in there, and a pressure pump, controlled by chips on a motherboard. How long – and at what cost -would that take to investigate and repair? I now have a replacement. I’ve read that others have had a similar fail after just 18 months (coffee makers have an average life of around 10 years. I’m not particularly happy – I personally would have elected to choose another brand. I’m livid with the time spent arguing for my legal rights with Harvey Norman at Garden City. How many people accept a store’s incorrect, and illegal, interpretation of what protection is guaranteed by national consumer legislation? It will be interesting to see what the response will be from ACCC.
