Losi 1/4 Supermoto - Perfection, Almost – Losi have achieved what for years has been considered nigh on impossible. The Losi 1/4 Supermoto RC dirt bike is old school, meets tomorrows… Read more

technology. Why is this the epitome of perfection, when it comes to RC vehicles? Simple, it is a motorcycle that will stay upright, even at very low speeds.

So, let's talk about the Losi 1/4 Supermoto RC dirt bike.

First things first, I ordered this way back in Aug 2023 and finally received it in February 2024. This review is May 2024, so I have had a couple of months to play with and consider this little unit.

The problem? In the past, the ability to have a two wheeled vehicle, ergo motorcycle, stay upright and allow turns. Many have tried, many have failed. Then along comes Losi with a mix of old and new. Sure others have tried with poor results to have an RC bike stay upright.

This is a great sized RC vehicle. Touted as 1/4 scale, it is pretty much that, an RC motorcycle, with rider, in believable to scale vehicle.

Using a flywheel, that spins at a ridiculous rate of knots, forcing the bike into a forward leaning unit. Add in some magic from springs and dampers and we have a steerable, easily controllable RC motorbike.

Let's start at the battery. A Spektrum 7.4V 5000mah G2 Smart Battery. This in turn flows through the Electronic Speed Controller to a 3800kV motor that propels this weapon at a mind-blowing 70km/h.

This is all pulled up with the rear wheel being electronically braked and a cable disc brake system on the front wheel, this pulls up relatively quickly.

Out of the box, the motorbike has a pair of 'lean bars', which are pretty much needed to start with, however with a few days practice and more than a few walks of shame, I have now been able to totally remove these, making the bike lighter and able to lean even more into sharper corners.

As important as it is in RC cars and trucks, this little boss has servo savers built in, to protect those little components and protect the steering form sudden 'shunts'.

The front of the bike has a front crash structure to further protect the bike and it's electronics.

Then we have modes. Yes, that's right, MODES. There are three modes for this little beast.

On Road - pretty much what it says, provides more control, less 'wheelie' action.

Off Road - More slip needs more torque to find some grip. Be prepared to power-slide out of every corner, sideways.

Wheelie mode - Yes, despite the forward momentum force being provided by the flywheel to keep the vehicles forward attitude, the Losi 1/4 Supermoto has a mode that allows you to pop and hold a wheelie for that ultra cool video shot.

The front and rear suspension is more of the same quality, realistic acting components that make it easier to drive and to absorbs those bigger bumps. But wait, we aren't talking about crashing bumps.

No, No, No, the Losi 1/4 Supermoto is designed to fly off and land jumps, like a real off-road motorbike. Yes, this monster can happily go off jumps. So, some serious time on a BMX or similar track is a must.

Its 4-pole 3652 3800Kv motor puts down the power while the 85A brushless ESC adds all the control you need. To ensure a more controlled and smoother acceleration, the Losi 1/4 Supermoto has a race inspire slipper clutch.

All this power has to get to the rear wheel somehow, so to ensure you can get all that grunt to the dirt, the Losi 1/4 Supermoto is fitted with a proper, metal, adjustable chain drive.

And for those who want instant fun, you can buy these in a RTR - Ready to Run state. Charge up the battery and spend a while figuring and having fun.

But wait, there is actually MORE! Losi listened and have made available Street Tyres. That's right, you can swap out the knobby offroad tyres and fit a set of road tyres, for some absolute asphalt racing, with the option of different compounds. Hard, Medium and Soft, you can fit tyres to suit the environment.

Righto, so this sounds like it is absolute perfection. almost. I give it a 98.5/100 and the reason is quite simple. Provided with the Losi 1/4 Supermoto, is a USB powered charger. This is probably the slowest battery charging I have ever experienced. Sure it will charge up the battery, but it takes a few HOURS!

As I hate waiting and I want my batteries charged faster, I stepped up a notch and purchased a Spektrum S1100 Smart Charger, and a second battery. But if you can't justify that kind of expenditure of the charger, the supplied one will work, just slowly.

So, how good/bad is the Losi 1/4 Supermoto to drive? Initially it is going to fall over quite a bit. The lean bars are your best friend at this stage, as they usually keep the rear wheel in contact with the ground and you can normally get up and going again. What I've discovered, if it looks like it is about to fall, squeeze that trigger harder, point the other way and watch as this amazing little unit sits up, straightens up and takes off in a hot second.

On road it grips exceptionally well, on dirt the power-sliding rear wheel spinning will push it forward. It simply wants to keep going hard.

The price point almost ensures this is a 'toy' for adults, as I don't see your average Mum/Dad dropping a cool $1000 on one of these. But for those like me who do have the funds and just loves anything RC, this is one that should be on your 'Want List'.

Over the 2 months I have been running this, I would rate it extremely high (98.5%). whether it is on asphalt or dirt, this will both excite and amaze you with both it's capabilities and speed. A definite addition to any RC collection.
