Love it! – We have had ours for years and it never failed us!!!! Last night I accidentally dropped the water tank after filling it up and water went everywhere. Im heading out to buy the same one this morning as it lasted us, did the job and never had issues with ours.
Had no problems over a few years use – We used this a fair bit when the kids were younger (about 4+ years ago). We would use it 3 or 4 nights at a time over 3 or 4 winters. Reading all the problems that people have had perhaps the manufacturing process has changed as we had none of the overheating, melting or leaking issues others have had. It does gurgle a fair bit but our kids slept… Read more
through it. It does produce a lot of moisture but that is its job - that 4 litres of water isn't getting magicked away! It is a bit of a nuisance to clean though so that's why I only gave it 4 stars.
If the current models have serious problems my advice would be to grab an older model if possible, though the current box looks just the same as what we have.
Easy to use, good quality, nice looking, good value for money – Ok, so I ended up with bronchitis and I also suffer from athsma and have been wanting to buy a vaporiser for the past couple of winters but never actually got around to buying one. I was tossing up between this one (the allersearch hippo deluxe) and the Vicks one. After reading mixed reviews for both brands I wasn't sure if I wanted to fork out… Read more
the money for a new one unless I was sure that it was worth the money, I found a second hand hippo humidifier for $20 on gumtree.
I have never used a humidifier before but I found this one easy to set up and had it up and running within minutes.
It is Easy to use and set up. I find it to be very user friendly, it appears to be of good quality, it's nice looking compared to some of the other brands that I have seen around on the market, and even for the new price I think it is good value for money.
It does make a bit of a boiling water noise but not enough to keep me awake or anything although this might bother light sleepers? Also I'm not sure how the noise levels would compare to other brands as I can't really compare.
All in all, I'm happy with my purchase and I will be buying a second one to keep in the house for my son's bedroom for when he needs one too.

Ruined the paint job in sons room – Very disappointed with this machine. Its extremely WET. Had it on 3 hrs in an open window and door average size room. The entire room was moist!walls clothes ceiling. Its left the room with horrible streak marks and pools of water on the fall. When i tried to return after 1 use at good price pharmacy they said i couldnt ask it was used . I followed instructions of the store attendant and manual. Contact me asap as i could like a refund!
Very wet! – Done its job as far as humidifying the room. My problem is that not just is it noisey and splashes water over everything it's sitting on but my entire room has little water droplets all over the ceiling now. My walls also have streak marks running down due to water.
so noisy and it leaks – I bought this vaporizer for my children but its so noisy with gurgling sounds that i cant use it at night while they are asleep. It also left A LOT of condensation on my windows, dampened my curtains and left puddles on my carpet. Not happy with this vaporizer and wont purchase again.

This is perfect! Can't live without it – I love this vapouriser. It is a godsend when my kids are sick as it relieves congestion brilliantly. I have used it since they were babies in cold/ flu season. They sleep much better which means I sleep better. I love that the essential oils are not put in with the water in the canister but has a separate compartment. I use my doTerra Easy… Read more
Air and it works a treat when they are sick. People are saying it creates a lot of moisture but that is the purpose. I just open the windows up and turn the fan on the next day and it's all dried out in a short time.
Nice steam output – I had mine for just over a year, and it made a great amount of steam, which made a big difference for nasty colds. I left it with water in it for ages and then it started to turn itself off for no reason. Do they seriously expect people to clean it every day? I gave it a really good clean as instructed and you couldn't see any build up, but it… Read more
still wouldn't work. My pharmacy gave me a refund and I got a Rainbow Mist instead. I think the rainbow mist is a better product, but I do find that the cool air is not as good at dealing with nasal congestion as the warm. And the rainbow mist works heaps longer than the hippo, despite having a significantly smaller tank.
Missing aromatic container – Hi. My wife and I recently bought the Hippo Delux Vaporiser off GumTree to help our daughter breath more comfortably at night while she has the flu. Problem is the vaporiser is missing the container where the inhalant medication is put into. I was wondering if there is anybody out there that had a machine that is broken could see it in their heart… Read more
to send us the missing piece?? We will happily pay for the postage. We are very happy with the machine it's self. Works perfectly.
Melted!! – had it running overnight while my little one was sick. No issues. Ran it for 20 minutes the next day and the bottom of it melted!! I had water everywhere. So unsafe! Absolutely do not reccomend it!!
So dangerous! !!! – purchased one of these and the 3rd time useing it the base on it is starting to melt so went and got the same one 2nd hand and that base started to melt too!! so dangerous it could of caught fire in my 2 year old sons room!!! id like someone to contact me asap please
Stay with the trusted traditional steam vaporisers – The vaporiser produces enough steam and is quiet but it does not emit a scent as the steam does not pass over the oil reservoir at the top of the vaporiser but around it. The traditional vaporisers are designed so the steam actually passes over the oil reservoir so you have that wonderful aroma of the oil you use ( I use eucalyptus or menthol)… Read more
Produces large amounts of steam, it is very quiet and the cut off switch when it is empty works everytime. It does not emit a scent, only steam
Allersearch Hippo Deluxe Steam Vaporiser – used this about 10 times and has now broken down.bought it believing it was a good one to get,but was actually very noisy and created too much steam for an average room that lots of condensation formed on windows.Quite dissapointed that already not working after spending $80 on this . cant find my receipt so didnt claim warranty

Terrible – We had ours for 7 months and discovered the other day a large puddle of water on the floor underneath the unit. On inspecting unit found that the base of the plastic water reservoir had melted?????Very dangerous, will not purchase another one! I am not aware of any product recall on this?Or if anyone else has had the issue with the water reservoir melting Faulty possibly dangerous-re plastic reservoir melting
Poor design, doesn't release essence well, leaves water puddles - go with the Vicks brand !! – I am really sorry I bought this and wished that I'd stuck with my first instincts of getting the Vicks one the Hippo is difficult to clean - it has a lot of removable parts and each needs a clean on its own. This was always a gripe of mine prior to using the Vicks one and not knowing how the Vicks one worked and how easy it is to clean and… Read more

The hippo has also been leaving a lot of water residue on the floor - again, not having used any other brand, I thought this was normal until I used the Vicks one and found absolutely no residue, puddles or water stains in the floor
The hippo water container (while looking impressively large) is either deceptive, or the machine chews through heaps of water very quickly. Again, not having used any other brand, I thought that it wasn't unreasonable that the water would run out during the night. The Vicks brand lasts the whole night and I was getting about 12 hours before the machine would shut off. The Hippo water intake means that you have to turn the water container upside down once you fill it (even though it has a screw on lid, water inevitably escapes and spills on the floor) and also when you go to refill it because the unused water/ remaining amount sits in a well in the machine. This means that you need to turn the machine upside down as well to get the water dregs out before you can refill the water tank
The water bubbling noise is neither here nor there for me as it didn't bother me, yet it didn't provide any sleep inducing noises either. The noise isn't constant but it also isn't loud when it happens. For comparison though (since I've been comparing "apples" so far) the Vicks one makes no discernable noise
The hippo doesn't disperse the essence much at all - you would be hard pressed to smell any essence that you put into the essence holder. Yet again, I didn't know that other brands were much better at dispersing the essence smell. When using the Vicks one, you could definitely smell the essence and it really helped to clear nasal passages without being harsh
Unfortunately, my friend took her Vicks vaporiser with her so I will have to get one for our place which is an expense that I can't really afford, however the benefits of it when my young son has a cold is definitely worth it since I haven't had the same effect with the Hippo. Safety shut off when water gets low Too many parts, leaves water puddles and reside on the floor, no point in using essence because you can't smell it anyway
Love it – I bought my vaporizer just over a year ago. Since then i have had no issues with it, no gurgling sounds and no issues with it melting. yes it makes noises, but me and my partner find it soothing to sleep to. i love this product its easy to maintain as i clean it after every use and replace the oil each time and i find that makes a difference in maintaining it. reliable, efficent, easy to clean, nothing - no issues Show reply
Brilliant machine! – We have used our machine for what is probably 5 years now without any problems at all. We have had other types of machines previously, and had awful experiences from not being able to clean them, through to them leaking etc. It can become a bit "gurgly"when it's about to run out of water, but apart from that, we could not be happier with our machine!! Reliable and simple to use and clean Can be slightly noisy when it almost out of water Show reply
Not worth the money – This item is noisy with boiling sound when used at night. Manufacturer does not offer refund or exchange even though valid receipt presented. They have bad customer service. I would not recommend this brand to anyone who is looking for a steam vaporizer. Regret buying this product at the chemist recommendation. bad customer service, noisy
Waste of money, absolute rubbish – I hate it, it leaks, it's noisy it has ruined my wall unit & carpet where it sat. Once it is empty I refill it and the light on the unit still says empty. Not a lot of steam. Used it 3 times. Never again. Absolute rubbish do not buy. It looks good. Expensive, noisy, leaks, hard to clean, not a lot of steam.
No bad experience so far – Used it for last winter, all good so far... I think it's good value for money...was for 50$ from chemist warehouse..not sure why people had bad experiences...just follow the cleaning advice weekly and daily that's important...apart from that all good Works well all night Nice color shape and built quality Serves the purpose well, shape, built quality, price, less noisy Can't find and can't compare as this is my first one
Horrible! – I've had this vaporiser for 3 months at most and it has melted and now water just pours out and there is no point to anymore. It's broken and I've probably used it for maybe a month all up? When buying a product I don't expect it to break or melt when it's doing its job. I'm not happy and will no recommend to anyone!
terrible do not buy – I have had mine for a couple of years but only been used twice, this morning after I turned it on it has overheated majorly I have had scolding water just pour out so much so I couldnt pick it up this is so dangerous as it could of burnt my 2year old it has also leaked that much it has blown out my power point good job for rcd's never buying one again.

It Broke – Lasted for 30 mins before it overheated and red light came on. Instructions said to turn of and wait to cool down. Waited about 15 mins then switched back on and same thing happened. We received a full refund next day from chemist where we bought it. Maybe we were unlucky. didnt work
A little worried – For the first few times of using the vaporiser it was great. Now we're using it again and its rather loud, the liquid in the red capsule is not disappearing like at first and the back of the machine is incredibly hot. So hot Im not going to use it!! Help??! :0) Reasonably priced. Started out wonderfully. The more its used, the louder it got. Back of the vaporiser has become extremely hot.
Irritating – The unit gurgles & bubbles loudly all night which sounds like a kettle about to boil, there is excessive steam that drenched everything but it hardly evaporates the inhalant solution. I liked the auto shut off feature, was good piece of mind, had large water reservoir & was reasonably simple to clean. However I did return it for a full refund. Noisy
Good use so far – Just pick it up this morning since my little boy suffering terrible stuffy nose. Read the Taav review and decided to go to chemist warehouse then I was persuaded to take the hippo one with $4 extra than Taav. Taav look a bit cheapish with the packaging and the nozzle is pretty small compared to hippo. Love the water tank that can be… Read more
plugged out of the housing to fill the water.
Dont like the place to hold the drop - bit too tiny to my liking especially it warns against fill the drop to the maximum level in its manual.
So far so good!
Hippo – I've had mine for 3 mths and couldn't be happier, easy to use, works great and affordable. It seems every year I am purchasing a new humidifier for the family and have tried most of them but this is the best so far as value for money and performance. I have not found the unit to be noisey compared to some. Cost, ease of use, length of time running Can't fault it. Show reply
Steer Clear – Purchased the Hippo for my daughter It is difficult to clean and theen when I was setting it up last night as she is unwell, filled reservoir picked it up the handle broke free snapping reservoir big crash water everywhere, don't need that when dealing with sick child. Contact number in box said ''we don't know that product, bye.'' Chemmart… Read more
where I purchased it now looking into process ?? Waiting waiting for call back. It is under warranty Not much, steams all night, 5 year warranty Who honours warranty debate, Hard to clean hard scale build up, Not much steam, Fragile poor materials, After sales not happening,
had mine for under 12 months and it started leaking water
Hippo Vaporiser – Recently brought this machine from Chemist Warehouse. Has anyone else found that this machine is noisy (bubbling, gurgling etc) making it difficult to sleep. They only had this one and the TAAV available. So far this would be my only concern as having to use ear plugs to keep the noise down.

Reasonable product for the price – We have been using ours for just over 6 months and it has been fine. It is a little fiddly to clean with daily wipe down an weekly descaling, but not too bad. It certainly helps kids with congested noses. It does cause condensation, which you have to manage. In our apartment it seems to be OK because only the window gets really cold so the… Read more
walls don't get too bad, but I guess that if the walls get cold you could have the problems some other reviewers have reported. We also don't use ours all the time - only when our son is congested. I would expect mould if we used it all the time. Works well, relatively inexpensive some recessed parts somewhat difficult to descale.
Melted after 4 uses – I actually really like this Vaporiser. Its easy to clean and maintain. The only problem I have is thatthe plastic tank keeps melting. After this happen to the first one I tok it back and exchanged it for a new one. Well it has happened again. I rang the company and she said if ure using oil and it spills over it melts the plastic. I told her i… Read more
am using oil but i only fill it half full so i wouldnt have this problem. And also its starting to bubble instead of havig a constant steam so she thinks the thermostat may be faulty. She also said there has been a number of these returned for the same reasin. When I rang up Chemist warehouse they told me thay have had heaps returned. So dissapointed as its a good idea just needs to be fixed. Easy to clean, easy to fill water up. The water resivoir melts
Good build quality. Nice & useful product – Read some bad review regarding this one, but I bought it anyway. In my local Chemist Warehouse, there is only this 1 & the TAAV 1 available. The TAAV's packaging quality looks really cheap (despite Australian made). Been using it for 3 nights & really happy with it. The build quality is really good. Instruction is easy to follow. Very easy to… Read more
clean. Unlike other brands which force you to buy their own flavour oil, with this brand you can use anything. I bought some eucalyptus oil to use with it. Inexpensive, good build quality, easy to clean
Walls get Damp – Was not happy with the product at all as the excess moisture makes the walls very damp, to the extent that water drips off the walls every morning. This affected the paint in the room, the paint started pealing. How ever helped Sort the issue with dry throat and allergies. Walls get damp, water running down the walls every morning and wrecked the paint
Plastic melted! – I loved this vaporiser, it was easy to use and I liked the safety switch feature. After having this for only 8 months and only using a handful of times we noticed a funny smell. The plastic at the back of the water container was melting, like runny, wet, melted plastic! Do you know how hot plastic needs to be to melt? This was in my baby's room! I… Read more
called the company and they lady was completely uninterested. She did not seem surprised and told me to take it back to where I purchased. I asked if it was a faulty product and she said, no we still sell them. I said well its quite dangerous and she just repeated that I should take it back. I was so shocked. The pharmacy where I bought it were happy to refund. But that is so dangerous!
It melted!
I also had one loved it never had a problem. It to ended up melting but only because it was inside our house when it burnt down :)
Clears congestion and improves airflow – Great product. Clears congestion. Helped clear sinus issues. Highly recommended.
