Great little player, Turns a PC monitor into a TV ! – I have had my Aver Media port A219 now for a few years & it has been very good for what I need. It is an SD receiver but that is good for me. All you need is a PC monitor & you have a digital TV + media player. I initially has a display aspect problem but this was fixed very promptly with the technical department of Aver with a firmware update.

What I really like about this device is its small size, variety of inputs, VGA output & Low power consumption.

Sitting on the small table is the A219 & LG 22" LCD. LCD monitor is cheaper than TV.

The A219 has an external power supply 5V & the unit draws 1A (5W) , this goes well with the LCD display that draws 18W (LED backlit)so perfect for solar power setup. External power supply should give improved reliability (less heat dissipated internally)

I very occasionally get some minor hickups like chinese characters in the info display or some text is left on screen, but this is rare & easily goes away.

Some slight negative points I have are:

It is slow in updating the info when changing channels, often I have to press the EPG button, wait a bit the esc back to channel select.

There is no provision to name or delete recordings.

Can only record DVB-T (Digital TV)

The menus are reasonable, compared to some other (set top boxes) its quite good, but is a bit inconsistent in different modes (Analog TV, DVB-T)

The zoom function seems not to work in anything but still photo mode.?

There is no pause function when recording DVB-T, I would guess this is a function of the chipset used.

When navigating HD for media it has modes (Photo, Video, Music) & will only show those selected mode files,.. esc back, back, back , select different file types then.... I would prefer to see all media files & just click on the one I want.

Summary: +Very nice compact unit, great for solar use with low 5W power consumption.

+Same money by using PC monitor for video display.

+Has other inputs to interface with DVD player, Video tape player, vid camera etc...

+Avermedia is very helpful to resolve any issues that may arise,. especially if you can supply specific details.

+Remote control is so far reliable, it has thick carbon contact rubbers (won't wear out)

+Signal reception sensitivity is quite good in compariuson to other DVB-T recievers at hand.

- Cannot delete HD files - take HDD to pc is not too much hassle tho.

- Cannot pause recording - cant skip out those ads (like I can on DVD recorder) Reliable, easy to use, functional, low power, just add a PC monitor to make a TV. Maybe updates for new file formats could be made available.
