Little Workhorse! – Purchased in Feb of 2005 and has sewn everything I have thrown at it. I must have gotten a good one! I handles silk, cotton, fleece, flannel, denim, fake fur, terrycloth, and I have put the walking foot on it and quilted a full-sized quilt on her. I bought an after market darning foot and will be making an attempt to free-motion quilt on it soon. … Read more

The one-step buttonhole feature is nice too.

It easy enough to do routine maintenance on (light cleaning and oiling) that I haven't had any major issues.

My biggest complaint is the user manual. It was written in another language and converted to English without proof reading for comprehension. Some of the basic info was missing from the manual as well, particularly the class/size of the bobbins needed.

A good and reliable machine! – I use this machine only occasionally and sometimes have to re-learn how to use it. Once I get the settings adjusted properly, it runs smoothly and does the job well. With a little patience, this machine will serve you well for many years! The stores which sell these machines are also generous with answering any questions and trouble-shooting… Read more

problems you may be experiencing. Threading the machine and filling the bobbin are not difficult once you learn how to do it. In fact, filling new bobbins is fun, simple and quick! I sometimes don't know how to set the tension or stitch length properly. It would be best if I made some sample stitches, labeling them with the settings so that I could learn what works best.

I want to tear my hair out! – I bought this machine in 2004 (ten years ago) and am so frustrated I decided to google "Bernette 80e problems". The things I'm reading make me feel like at least I'm not crazy. I'm having the same problems others have mentioned. I've used it infrequently and am living a "Groundhog Day" nightmare-like repeating pattern: I take it out to use it… Read more

after a long hiatus, something goes wrong, I get it repaired, put it away, take it out a long time later, something goes wrong, take it to be repaired.... Today the zig zag stich would go awry every now and then for no apparent reason. and the bobbin case wouldn't stay seated, tangling up the thread. I'm an amateur user, but I have sewn many things through the years

and I simply can't believe these problems are all me. i aldo have a hard time believing that such an expensive machine could be so problematic.

Here's an update. I've since noticed that the bobbin insertion is tricky. I think I was getting it… Read more

The Reverse Run a Round – For a casual machine - dont pick this one - it runs in reverse if not used regularly, and needs to be repaired each time. My daughter picked the machine as it was the same as school, and is now looking to be a TAS teacher - but when not in regular use, all sorts of problems happen Was fun a when it was reliable not for casual use

I hate this machine – Every time I work on a new sewing project, this machine breaks in some fashion requiring me to take it in to the store where I purchased it. The problems are always the same. The tension is always "off" and the hook (that holds the bobbin) is always messed up in some way. I have to purchase a new hook every project. I chalk this up as the… Read more

single worst purchase I have ever made. I wish I could get my money back and buy a machine that works.

breaks every time I use it, service is expensive (minimum $80 a shot plus parts).

Excellent – I would be happy to recommend this machine. I would be happy to purchase another for a member of my extended family - confident that they would appreciate it. Delighted. I have been sewing for more than 50 years, always on a Bernina - first a Record, then a Sport. Now very happy with Bernina Bernette. Sews smooth as silk. Easy to use, pre sets… Read more ·  1

are excellent. Not bothered with the embroidery stuff - if I want embroidery, I want it hand done, not machine done!

Bernina Bernette is every bit as good as my previous Bernina machines.

Beth Had no problems whatsoever.

This machine is worthless – My husband bought this machine for me for Christmas 2006. Until the past 3 months I have had little occasion to use it, but I decided to try quilting. Every time I use it, I have problems bending or breaking needles. I have had it repaired twice in the last month, costing me about $150. The second time I had it fixed, I was told to get a new… Read more

bobbin case. Did this (another $20), used it once, and it is doing the very same thing. I will never buy another Bernette, and I would advise anyone else not to. If it doesn't work, what can there be to like about it? Bends needles, bobbin case is awful.

Terrible – The design of the bobbin case is obviously wrong. The measure taken to correct the flaw have not been successful. Can't think of any I hate it.The bobbin will not stay in place. Had it repaired twice. The last time a plate was attached to keep the bobbin in place. Failed. Nothing comes of this machine but wasted time and energy.
