Black Wolf Turbo Lite FS

Far from water proof – Whilst this tent is very easy to erect and pack up, no doubt about that. It leaked badly at the bottom seem where the floor material is joined to wall fabric. Terrible, absolutely in wet weather. It is on the market after 4 times of use # in dry weather and last time in wet. It is on the market to a fine weather camper. Black Wolf must be ashamed of this tent.
Rubbish – Leaked at seems, not just a drip either, it really leaked badly. Only good with a tarp over it as it cannot be trusted as a stand alone. The oztrail tourer 9 is a much better tent and is also very fast to erect, the tourer 9 has a pole obstructing the centre and id take it every time over this black wolf garbage.
quick and easy to handle for 1 person – This model is excellent for just 1 person to erect and dismantle. I purchased this as I sometimes go camping on my own but there is still plenty of room for 2 people + gear. Definitely waterproof and windproof providing you have the guy ropes out. I particularly like the simple and small awning as there are no extra poles and guy ropes making it… Read more
really simple to handle. I don't understand why they discontinued it as that is one of the reasons I purchased it. Bring it back please I know others who would like to purchase the same model.
So far so good!!! – We bought this tent and had it delivered a few days ago. I support the military in my role and need a quick tent to put up and take down. I thought I'd give it a trial run and set it up on the back lawn. Very easy to erect. I'm over six foot and could stand easily in the tent and plenty of room for sleeping. (if you're after a good sleeping mat,… Read more · 1
then try the Denali Camper Royal Mat- it is heaven) Anyway ... great tent so far and the packing up was also easy. I have read some reviews about the bag being too small when packing the tent away - but I had no problem whatsoever - plenty of room in the bag. I'm yet to take it out on the field, but that will happen soon. So far so good - what I am yet to figure out is how waterproof is the carry bag the tent comes in especially if transporting the tent on the roof of your 4X4.
Great Tent! – I decided I wanted the option of having the FS300 which is 3m x 3m (for quick set up and an option for a smaller campsite) as well as the basecamp fly which extends an extra 2 or 3 metres out the front (for extended stays and extra shade). These basecamp flys aren't being made any more and were hard to find. I use it for car camping. It is quite… Read more
heavy and after feeling the weight I'm glad I didn't go for the canvas model.
When I first got the tent I set it up to give it a good hosing as per the instructions, however I found a black plastic part on one of the legs to have a split in it. I sent a photo to the supplier and they promptly sent me a new leg which I attached. Since my trip away one of the other legs has the same problem, however this part seems purely cosmetic so I'm not too worried.
When I first wet it down it leaked through the air vent zips at the top but this was expected because I didn't have the fly on yet. This tent is designed to be used with the fly at all times, however if you know for sure its not going to rain or be windy, you don't have to set it up.
I've had it in light to medium rain and it hasn't leaked at all. That said, because the fly only covers sections of the tent, parts of it are 'single skin' and if you touch the inside of these parts when it's raining it will be wet. This happens with the best canvas tents too, can't be avoided. It's such a big tent I had enough room that nothing was touching the tent walls anyway.
I'm very happy with how easy and quick it is to set up. The fabric seems tough enough, I survived a night in Shellharbour with fierce winds, many other people in dome tents were packing up and leaving and at one stage a tent went flying past my campsite! I made sure all the guy ropes were pegged out and the black wolf was fine.
The floor does seem thin but I use a shade cloth groundsheet and had no problems. It's definitely waterproof and the bucket flooring comes far up the side.
I love the guy rope compartments on the flys, so cool.
Ventilation is good, it could use another window on the back wall but it's not necessary. The front door is nice and big, the zips could be a little more heavy duty but they seem ok so far. Also the front door only zips from the bottom, it would be good to have the option to zip it down from the top.
Love the gusseted windows, very practical in wet weather.
So all up I'm a proud, happy owner of this tent. I believe it will last a fair few years and customer service from black wolf seems excellent.
Quick and Easy to Erect / Dismantle – If your tent takes 40 minutes to erect its going to put you off going camping for a short stay. These tents go up and down so quickly you can get onto other more enjoyable activities. The advertising says 60 seconds, but it's more like about 5 minutes for a first timer... although the time drops with practice. The Tent seems well made and… Read more
sturdy. The only gripe I have is that the standard front awning gives very little shelter. You can buy an extended tarp to counter this but the financial controller wouldn't give me permission. Quick and easy encourages overnight camping trips
Black Wolf Turbo Lite FS 300 – Just used this tent for the first time on the weekend. Two nights with the Mrs down at Jervis Bay (Green Patch). Set up was simple. Laid down a tarp for groundsheet, and had the inner shell up and four corners pegged within about 2 minutes. Fly was easy enough to throw over. It connected via velcro to the inner shell's frame, and guy ropes tucked… Read more
into pockets on the fly were easily extended and pegged. The awning poles were inserted, and we were off and away. 10 minutes tops for the first time erected, and I reckon I can do it much faster next time... even on my own.
Rained pretty much all of the first night but no leaks. Thankfully great weather for the rest of the weekend.
Condensation wasn't really a problem (no dripping), even with the windows and roof vents closed against the cold overnight. Very small film of inside moisture on the shade side of the tent, but with ventilation flaps closed that was to be expected. Dried in about 10-15 minutes of morning sunshine.
We packed up on Sunday morning and the underside of the tent was wet. I probably should have tucked the tarp groundsheet under the tent a little further to avoid run-off from the rain. Lesson learned. Packing up was a little more involved than set-up. You have to get the folds right to get it snugly back in the bag.
We set the tent up at home to dry out before storage (only took about 15 minutes), and managed to do a much better job packing it away the second time.
All in all very happy with the purchase, and have already planned the next weekend away. Great tent. Quick set up. Smart design. Bought the 2011 model at a very good price. Hardly a con, but took two packs to get the folds right for storage in it's bag.
