Excellent – I think the close shave is due to the unique nature of the holes in the foil - they're irregular and there's more hole than foil, so I'm able to get a good result in problem areas. I used to have spots where the shaver just would not catch every hair; this one gets it all. By far the dearest shaver I've ever owned, but definitely worth it. Excellent close shave - excellent cleaning system - lasts a week before needing to be recharged - recharges while cleaning - top shelf! If you use the cleaning system, there is an ongoing maintenance cost. The "shavings" can escape from the head onto your clothes, but not as badly as my previous Braun (5015), so this is a minor quibble.

Update 2013: After cleaning the shaver, I remove the cleaning solution and replace the seal. This way I get over twelve months out of a 'bottle', rather than having it sit in the unit and evaporate. Also, my comment that the charge lasts a week is incorrect for me: it's actually nearly two weeks! Obviously this will differ from user to user.

Terrible – This shaver was an expensive piece of rubbish. It cost a lot to buy and a lot to replace foils / cutters etc which only lasted 6 months or so. These are throw away items now with a short life span. My last shaver lasted nearly 20 years. I only got about 2 years out of the 8855. would spit clippings out all over me when in use. Lacked power. Broke down after 2 years and cost too much to repair so I had to buy another one.
