Braun Silk-epil 9 SE9961 Epilator. Terrible – After using Emjoi for 20 years I decided on a change I purchased a Braun the worst thing I could have done.Overpriced. It bruised my skin and jammed on my skin, the on and off button hard to use. Battery doesn't last long. A very painful experience. Back To Emjoi.

Useless – Worst $200 I ever spent, the charge seems ok, but even going slowly it takes several times to remove even one hair. As for the bikini line..painful & regrowth within days..never buy this brand again.

Big fan, love love love this product – I have had the original silk-epil for 25 years since it was first on the market. It still works but I always thought how cool would it be if cordless. About 2 years ago I bought another brand and it was more painful and didn't get the hairs, just broke them. 6 months ago I was in heaven when I found the cordless model, wet or'dry model with heaps… Read more

of attachment and on sale!

Well I'm thrilled. New model Still works a treat and does a fabulous job, and I am fussy. I Find it a little painful around the fatty inner part top of my knees - but don't feel any pain elsewhere, and I do my face, bikini and 3/4 legs. I have been a fan of this product for years, and get very little hair these days after years of use . I will never buy another brand again. My nieces came for a holiday recently and I showed them, they have shaved for years and couldn't stand the pain of waxing. My sister rang me today as they have them on their Christmas list now.

Big fan of this product!

It's like coming home – I owned a Braun Silk-epil 4 for five years before (I think) the little motor gave it. It ended up making a real grinding noise - but that is not the issue here. I used that little model regularly over the five years and loved it. The soft and smooth feeling after every shave felt soooo good. I was devastated when it seized. I know I needed to… Read more

replace it but, unfortunately, did not have the money to buy another Braun. The saleslady at the shop 'con'vinced me to buy another brand as it had 'so many more little tweezers' that pulled the hairs out. Because the price suited my pocket then, I bought it. I was totally disappointed after the first use but, unfortunately, had to keep it. That was 18 months ago. I hated this new shave and kept looking out for sales of the Braun Silk-epil as I knew I needed another one. My legs never felt smooth, tiny hairs remained (despite going over and over and over the same spot) and it seemed to scrape the skin of my legs.

Then I noticed the special on the Braun Silk epil 7 7791 and knew my prayers have been answered. I am now in 7th heaven with my purchase. My legs feel smooth and soft again. I have come to realise that rushing is not the way to shave and use it with slow even movements across my legs and it really does pick up the shortest of short little hairs. The charge lasts my entire shave and I shave just about my entire leg - almost from my groin down. The battery lasts the whole time and on some occasions the little charge warning light has come on but I have never been left 'short' of battery power.

If you are in a rush to shave and you miss little hairs, it is the operator and not the mechanism at fault. I find it so strange (and common) how fast and easy users will blame their equipment and not look at the procedure they follow. I am totally hooked on the Braun Silk epil and will never stray from this product again. I highly recommend it to anybody and, please, do not let any sales person persuade you think otherwise. I can attest to the standard and quality of the unit, battery life and shaving ability. May this little unit last for many more years to come so that I can enjoy smooth and soft shaved legs. Thank you, Braun!

Very Disappointed – I have similar issue with the Braun Silk epil 7. It is not very efficient... It takes few goes on one spot to remove the hair. I have tried it with various lengths of hair and it doesn't do the job. Also the battery charge only lasts for 25 minutes which means you need to keep recharging it before you can use it again. It takes hours to do… Read more

both legs. After all that legs don't feel smooth, they still feel very rough like they would after a day or 2 of shaving, not to mention it increases your ingrown hair.

I have an older unit which I bought around 13 years ago. It still works very well and is lots better than the new unit, however the adapter of the old unit is become loose hence I needed to upgrade.

Very disappoint for such a big brand name.

I have returned the unit to the Braun service centre as it does have a 2 year replacement warranty. Lets see what they do!

The Braun service centre checked my unit and found it to be faulty. They since have replaced it with a new unit. Thank you Braun....

I love it! – This is an awesome device, gives smooth legs - super happy with it. Works better as an epilator than a shaver but results are good.

Don't buy this model – I have an older model and it was fine. My husband recently bought me the silk-epil 7 cordless. It is horrible, it doesn't remove hair as well as the older model and you can't used it while it's plugged in. I only have 40 mins to remove all hair :( some of us are hairy, 40 mins is not enough especially if it's not efficient enough. I think it's… Read more

just waste of money. I wish i could return it, i just hate it. Very disappointing.

not being able to use it while plugged in. it doesn't remove shorter hail as well as the older models.

Best $200 I've ever spent – Great! An epilator that gives relatively pain free hair removal for a longer period than shaving. Easy to use, wet or dry, even sensitive areas don't hurt after a few uses. Would definitely recommend. Always found waxing hideously painful with bruising and inflammation (even when done by professionals) so nice to have good results with only a… Read more

slight rash which goes down in an hour or less. Definitely not expensive when you look at how much would be saved from a waxing routine. Tips: use wet or after shower where possible, moisturise with coconut oil whist skin is still damp.

Useless – I would never purchase a Braun product again. The hair grows back in a matter of days thats if the epilator can even get the hair out. The recharging is annoying. It takes hours to do your legs, can't even do your knees. I would not recommend this product useless useless. 6 months later and I need to buy a replacement product, never a Braun again!… Read more

Need to charge multiple times, doesn't pick up hair and it grows back in matter of days whatever hair it manages to pick up

Waste of mOney – I brought this product thinking it would be worth it's price. It did not pull out the hairs only sliced them it worked like a razor. The store would not help me refund this product. I don't recommend anyone to purchase this as you can not get your $200 back if the same thing happens to you

Braun = brilliance! – This combo depilator- razor is magic!I will never wax again! It combines the slow regrowth benefit of waxing with the ultra-smooth touch of freshly shaven legs - but this smoothness lasts for days not merely 24 hours. I recommend you follow the instructions and shave a few days before use as you need to have fairly short hairs for the gripper… Read more

mechanism to catch the hairs effectively. The good thing about this sturdy, elegant, long-running rechargeable baby is that you can quickly click the blade attachment off to just use the depilator mechanism on those bumpy, bony bits of your legs that you might not want to risk cutting. Also, if you need to dehair in a hurry you can simply sit on a chair and use the depilator dry without the blade. I find it takes about 15-20 minutes to do a 3/4leg job on both legs (but that would depend in how hirsute you are, of course!) Other pros - it's easy to clean and store, and it is a Braun so very reliable with good warranty reassurance. I have heard people complain about the noise, but honestly it is no noisier than a men's electric shaver and at least you are not using it right next to your ears. Regarding the pain factor, many years ago I had a horror experience with an electric depilator and swore never to use one again, but frankly I don't find this particularly painful at all. However, that said, I should note I have fairly fine hair due to many years of waxing, and I have not tried this on armpits or bikini line (had them lasered a while back). I think you might find this best for legs. Ultimately though this product allows you to shave/depilate maybe once a week and get great results, which beats standard shaving (which you have to do a few times a week for smooth legs) and unlike waxing, you don't have to wait until your hairs are long and unsightly before removing them. It uses a rechargeable internal battery, and you will get two uses out of it, so if you are going away for a week or so you probably won't need the recharger with you. Totally excellent product, Braun - I love it and would unhesitatingly recommend it to anyone. Easy use, great results, sturdy mechanism

Handy and Painless Way to Remove Unwanted Hair – I've tried out a few epilators in my time - I am unsure of the brands, but whatever they were, they all left me running for the hills - screeching in agony - never wanted to go near an epilator again. A few years went by, and as you do, you forget the pain. Sick of constantly shaving, waxing and/or Veet, I was eager to try a cleaner, quicker &… Read more

perhaps more permanent alternative (that doesnt cost a fortune).

Although hesitant, I was sure that along with Smart TVs, LCDs, Plasmas, Blue Rays, Bluetooth, etc, there MUST have also been some advances in the hair removal department, since I'd last tested an epilator.

I looked around on the internet, and read dozens of product reviews. Ultimately, I decided to purchase a Braun Silk Epil 7. Not only was I inclined to purchase this product due to the fact that its German, but the countless reviews also assured me that Braun Silk Epil 7 was 'just out of this world'. I must say that I was also guided by price. The Braun Silk Epil 7 was the most expensive epilator I could find, and, truth be told, I believe that the most expesnive commercially available products, are often also the best. My pain was not something I wanted to skimp on.

Nonetheless, I waited several weeks before purchasing one, to be sure that this is really what I wanted (the last thing I wanted to do was blow my budget for something that wasnt really going to work, or that was going to be too painful to actually use on a regular basis anyway). I spent the next few weeks reading & watching more reviews on the product, and surely enough, none failed to impress.

After purchasing the product, I anxiously waited another 4 weeks for it to arrive from the UK. It arrived today, and I simply couldnt wait to try it out (I'd be growing my hair extra long just for this moment!).

Being more or less an epilator 'virgin', all good websites recommend shaving prior to first use, to get the skin used to the sensation of the epilator. But, being as impatient as I am, I told the Silk Epil to give me (and my hairy legs) it's best bloody shot!

My findings:

1. The Silk Epil 7 really - and I mean REALLY - is painless. An epilator sceptic by nature, I would never have thought this humanly possible. But indeed, the Silk Epil 7 is really painless. Sure, for the first few seconds you feel a pinch or two (perhaps similar to a tiny, light pin prick), but otherwise, the special massager head which comes with the machine (which I used today), does indeed massage your skin.

2. Although it is painless, I did also notice that rather than removing many of the hairs from their follicles, it actually rips the hairs off at the base (as you do when shaving). I was quite disappointed that I did not get a 'silky smooth' finish to my legs, as the machine's name might imply. I actually get a smoother finish to my legs when I shave. Try as I might - change direction as often I did - I could not remove all the hairs from their follicles, despite letting my leg hair grow longer than usual.

3. While watching reviews, I found that many regular epilator users complained about the noise their machines were omitting. While the Silk Epil 7 is noisy (compared to - lets say - a cat yawning), the noise certainly isnt frightening, and it didnt put me off at all.

4. Its handy, versatile, and charges in 60 minutes (with a cordless battery life of approx 40 minutes if used dry). Generally comes with 2 years warranty, which is a bonus.

Bottom line:

Its a great way to remove hair - clean, quick & handy. Gentle & painless - certainly a beginner's epilator. Does it really do it's job though as an epilator? Well, that's debatable, but it certainly beats the time consuming & messy activity of shaving. Still, had expected a better quality of epilation for the price paid & general product hype.

Will I continue to use? I certainly will. Overall rating - 4/5. Painless, Versatile, Charges Quickly, Can be used wet or dry, 2 Years Warranty Doesn't remove all hairs from their follicles, Expensive

Many handy functions – I was initially unsure about the higher price range of this product. However after purchasing and using it I am extremely glad I paid out more for this item. It is very easy to use, anywhere. Quick charge with long battery life. No cords so I can use it anywhere. Wet or dry function, great after soaking legs in the tub. Different head attachments for different sized areas. Versatile hair removal and long lasting power.
