Boils Everything – Whether on Low, High or Auto, this cooker will boil everything. I thought maybe I should try and completely fill it, that perhaps having more fluid might help, but came back hours later to find it boiling away quite happily on Low. It's ok for soup because of this, but anything that needs to be cooked slowly will end up tough and chewy. This is… Read more

not a slow cooker, other than the fact that it probably takes longer to come to the boil than a conventional cooker. I recommend that you try something else.

Cooks too fast – I've had several slow cookers over the years, including two different Brevilles. We bought this one because we wanted a bigger size, but it cooks at too high a heat, and thus too fast. A slow cooker on low should have the food at barely a simmer; in the Avance it is boiling hard on low. After two ruined meals (chicken curried mush and beef stew… Read more

mush) I have returned to my smaller, older Breville for timed cooking when I'm out at work - surely the whole point of the thing - and only use the Avance for some soups that can't be wrecked by being cooked too long at too high a temperature, and when I'm at home to supervise it and turn it off - the first time I did this, the recipe that I had previously cooked on low for ten hours was finished in the Avance in 5.5 hours.

I also don't like the lack of flexibility with the settings. Energy efficient Cooks too hot; thus can't be left while I'm out at work

I too have found it cooks to high and now only use it as a casserol pot to cook in normal time! Pain really since that is not wht I bought it!

Excellent – Overall, this Breville Meal Maker 5 Slow Cooker is the best ever slow cooker. We did some research on this product before we bought as I wanted one with a removable bowl for easy cleaning. The last one I had (and still have after about 20years)is a Black & Decker and although it is also a fantastic slow cooker, I just needed more! I wanted… Read more

something bigger for starters and something with this shape was just the ideal design as I can now fit my lamb shanks in very comfortably and then the keep warm setting wasjust the icing on the cake. I cook everything I can possibly cook in this little beauty...I love it! I bought it about 10months ago from H/Norman for around $65.00 (they had a good special that day), however I would have paid the RRP of around $75.00 without any problem at all...especially now that i know how great it is. It is so easy to use...It heats up quickly and I have never had a meal from it that is not soft & juicy & tender! Well Done Breville...You've done it again!! P.S I now have their Toaster, Kettle and Blender! Love it! Love it! Love it!! Absolutely Nothing!

Excellent – I absolutely love my slow cooker! I don't know how I survived before I got it. I can put it on the bench in the morning and forget about it until dinner time. The outside of the cooker stays cool so small children can't burn themselves if they get to it. This slow cooker is the best one on the market. It's huge, so I can easily make dinner for my… Read more

whole family and still have leftovers for lunch the next day. The bowl comes out so it's easy to clean. None that I can think of

Excellent – Bought this due to its capacity (family of six) to replace an ancient Sunbeam. It has a huge capacity and cooks everything to perfection. We have had it for a few years now and it hasn't missed a beat. No negatives whatsoever. Highly recommended! Size, ease of use, easy to clean.
