Pros: 1. Brewing is good (no plastic taste in the first one) 2. Carafe heater is excellent
Cons: 1. Poor carafe quality. 2. Expensive carafe replacement (roughly $27 without postage, so it is probably better to buy a new one) 3. Poor Breville customer service. In detail: The carafe broke in both machines. The first one I thought it was my mistake that it touched the sink while I was washing it. The second carafe, however, broke 'in my hands' without any kind of pressure after less than a month of using it (2-4 cups a day). And Breville refused to accept that it is faulty, although I wanted to send them a digital photograph of where it broke! The carafe could be actually a great source of profit for them since I costs roughly 75 percent of the price of a new machine.
Overall: Over the past two years I purchased two Aroma Fresh (Model BCM 120) coffee makers. It is true this one is inexpensive ($45 from Myer), but if you could find an other brand, go for it.

Pros: Easy to clean, makes a good cup once you use the correct amount of coffee
Cons: Manufacturer instructions are incorrect and will result in terrible coffee
Overall: The biggest tip I can give is don't follow the instructions. 1 heaped teaspoon per cup will make a terrible tasting coffee with a bunch of off flavours. You need at least 1 tablespoon but I recommend you start with 2 tablespoon per cup and if its too strong, dilute and make it slightly weaker next time. You can't do anything if you make weak bad tasting coffee, but strong coffee can be easily diluted.
Pros: The coffee tastes great, suitable for 1-2 cups, the hot plate still has its teflon coating on.
Cons: After 2 years the carafe broke, there is no digital function to delay the operation
Overall: Compact and convinient, the coffee tastes good with paper or mesh filters. After two years the coffee is still hot but the glass did not survive...
Cons: after 12 months of use although the machine is still going fine, the coffee doesnt come through very hot any more and we either have to leave it sitting for 15 minutes before pouring, or if desperate we have to give it a few seconds in the microwave. If you leave less that 2 mugs worth of coffee to keep warm for a while, it stews it very quickly so probably not worth leaving it on, but better to start a fresh one when required.
Overall: A good machine for the price - easy to use and makes a pretty good cup of coffee. We use it around 6-8 times a day so we are always amazed if we get 12 months out of a machine as I dont think they are made for using so heavily on a daily basis. This one has reached 12 months so we are happy.
Cons: My coffee smells and tastes plastic even after 10 uses! I would recommend to stay away from it. I am going to call Breville support to demand refund. As it smells plastic it can be very dangerous for your health too.

Overall: Don't buy before checking the plastic smell. After all it is your health and you probably do not want to contribute to a chance of cancer.
