perfect – My Breville meal maker just died after 17 and a half years. As I worked, it was used at least once a week. Could not fault, it was like a faithful old dog. Have just acquired another it's the smart temp slow cooker and here's hoping I will get a good run out of this one. Show details
It is ok for the price – It does a basic job however if you want to cook slow cooked chicken or beef perfectly, it would be better to invest on high specs and expensive products. If you don't use a slow cooker often like myself this product has sufficient functions and great value for doing basic cooking. Show details
Can't cook Helper – Read the instructions, put in what needs to be cooked, set a recommended time, come home to a delicious dinner. Fantastic flavours, fall to bits product(especially Lamb Shanks) then savour the meal. What a lifesaver.
Breville Meal Maker (sold as being a Slow Cooker): Quality Control Failed – I asked to buy a slow cooker at Myers but it turned out to be a rapid boiler. I am a patient person: I did so many hours of testing with this pot, till I was worn out. I just did not want to believe that I would not be able to overcome this fast cooking. I tested by creating gaps, inserting skewers and cutlery between the lid and the pot. Getting… Read more
worn out myself was the only result I achieved.
It was such a very attractive oval pot. It consisted of a metal outside and a heavy stoneware insert. The testing wore me out and I was sick anyway and did no more than ring Breville up. They wanted to have nothing to do with this problem.
Disappointed – I thought I was doing something wrong as my meat was usually dry and chewy when I used the slow cooker. I was so relieved to find out others were having the same problem. I won't be using it any more as the meals are just not enjoyable. Advantages: looks good, easy to clean, browns meat, easy to use.
Not good – Thought this would guarantee soft tender meat when I assured hubby I could justify the expense on buying, after all Breville has a good name, whether on high or low, the meat was inevitably dry and chewy having a boiled taste and the veg completely overcooked, way too soft when cooked according to directions but being game I persevered (thought it… Read more
was me -a humble beginner in the kitchen) so I'm glad to see I'm not the only one to have problems with this. The first few times everything burnt:(
I found the best way was to load in about 1-1.3 kg cubed meat then about 1/2 way through load in veg so the meat is not as dry and watch it - defeating the purpose.
I've gone back to the dutch oven for casseroles or roasting pan in the oven for braising despite the cost of running the oven, at least the food is edible. Has potential to cook larger amounts of food. Doesn't cook food well, gathers dust, decorating my pantry
Fantastic - does what it is supposed to do – I have had this slow cooker for 6 years. I have left it overnight cooking, I have also left it during the day while I am at working cooking and have never had a problem with anything that I have cooked. I have used it for meals and soups. I actually bought another rectangular Breville slow cooker so that when I had a lot of people over I was able… Read more
to prepare large amounts of the same dish or 2 separate dishes. Food can be served from the removable insert, fantastic. Large, easy to use. A warm option would have been good.
Terrible – Had one replaced under warranty and replacement is no better. Boils and could NOT be used overnight. Breville should be ashamed for marketing such a product. Would not recommend to anyone. Looks pretty, handy for storage. BOILS and is NOT a slow cooker at all
Bad – For cooking up a fed this does the trick, as a slow cooker not so good. This meal makers temperature is way to high set for it to be a good slow cooker, however it does cook up a casserole, but I did find that meat can be chewy due to the boiling rather then simmering. I dont recommend this as a 'Slow' cooker and was very disappointed, I believe… Read more
if you put a meal in all day it would most likely burn, very unlike a slow cooker. Great family size 5 litre cooker. Assume it is a SLOW cooker yet is really a Meal Maker as it says.
Terrible – I no longer use it. I am very disappointed! I expected a much better product from Breville - especially since it was because of their brand name and good reputation for quality products that this particular slow cooker was chosen over other brands. I will think twice before choosing to purchase another Breville product again. Was given as a gift.… Read more
I like the lid strap idea for transporting food while traveling. Burnt the food on several occasions - even on low and automatic settings - except for the first few uses. Also after the first few uses (which were not too bad) the condensation now gathers in the top rim and builds up causing water to drip over and run down the side every time I use it - most dangerous as water could easily run over the area where the cord plugs into the machine. My sister was also given the same one, but hers doesn't seem to burn as easily or have the water in the rim overflow (although it does build up) - so she at least is able to use hers. I wish I had returned it!
Too fast for me! – I'd have to agree with most other review in that this cooks far too quickly. I need a SLOW cooker that I can put on before leaving for work in the morning & return to a tasty, correctly cooked meal. Having said that, I now set it on a plugin timer to not have it overcook. A pity, becuase I'd read other reviews that rated it highly - maybe if it… Read more
was filled to over 3/4, which I generally don't do as that is far too much for a 2 person family, altho I then just freeze leftovers anyway. Inexpensive, easy to operate (like most of them!), looks attractive. Cooks FAR too quickly. Bubbles and burns around edges.
Good – great value for the price. Works as per the instructions in the manual. the manual also has easy step by step recipes to get you started easy to use, easy to clean, bowl can go from fridge to cooker to table. wish it had a timer or keep warm function
Terrible – I really don't understand why Breville should market this product when it obviously cannot be called a 'slow cooker". Fortunately, the retailer took it back without fuss and replaced it with another brand which my daughter owns and is very pleased with and which also has very good reviews on this website. Many thanks to those whose reviews… Read more
encouraged me to return it. Nothing, since it doesn't do the job it was supposed to do, i.e. cook slowly Cooks way too fast, even on low.
Terrible – Dont even think about buying this if your after a slow cooker... Check it every 2 hours for your own sake . I wish id kept my old sunbeam..... Looks good but is an absolute DUD ! This cooks way to fast .This is NOT a slow cooker.Slow cookers should cook a stew in 8 to 10 hours on low, but this thing torches it in 4 hours...
