Pros: Economic,quick high quality printer
Cons: occasional errors although if software drivers are updated this isn't an issue
Overall: This printer is great for the home office and for the price that its at is one of the cheaper mono laser printers. The dpi resolution for the price is fairly high however if you are printing graphics at all this is not the printer for you. Unlike other printers I have had, this one rarely jams and in general is fairly economic. The one time the printer did have an error Brother support had replied within 24hours with exactly how to fix the problem.

Pros: Great little printer. Cheap to buy, cost effective to operate
Cons: None thus far. And I've had it for 4 years.
Overall: Worthy buy in the mono laser printer segment for SOHO use. Doesn't take up much space, is light and portable as well.

Pros: I've had this printer for around 4 years, and it has performed beautifully. The toner lasts for ages and is very cost effective.
Cons: The error messages are a little confusing. I would have liked to see a list of error messages printed inside the printer.
Overall: An excellent printer, the toner is easily purchased online at reasonable money. I haven't yet had to replace the drum. The printing operation is easy to understand, and double sided printing is a breeze. The back panel opens to allow printing of thicker cardboard, and single pages and envelopes can be loaded from the front.

Pros: This is a good solid reliable printer. High yield toners.

Fantastic after sales telephone support!
Cons: Error messages are cryptic and cannot be interpreted without user manual. A combination of flashing lights is all you get. This can mean that your machine simply has a paper jam or may indicate a more serious problem. You won't know until you read the manual.

Be aware that the manual is not comprehensive either. For example, I once had a paper jam where paper was stuck in between the toner and drum cartriage. I could not see where the paper occurred and the manual did not suggest pulling them apart to unclear the jam. However, Brother's telephone support was fantastic in helping fix the problem -- for free!
Overall: The HL1430 is well built, reasonably efficient and does a good job overall. Highly recommended as long as you can live with cryptic error messages you encounter.

I agree with an earlier reviewer that the new HL2040 (its successor) looks a little too flimsy for my liking. Hence I will be trying to keep this one as long as possible!
