Very Reliable – Purchased this printer 4 months ago. Easy to install and operate. A very solid workhorse with very clear and readable copies. The inital cartridge only allows for about 700 copies, but as I only use it at home that is no problem for me as my demands are limited. No problems with jamming to date Show details
Prefect printer, great copies – Bought it a year ago from june 2018 from gumtree for $280, wasn't going to pay $495 at the time. It worked well up until 6 mths ago when it started to print out bits of the fuser, i found a guy in gumtree that does repairs on fuser rollers for $80 came back fixed wasn't going to pay brother to fix it for $285. I buy toner from tonerstop and it been working perfectly after that. Show details
Love my new Printer – Had it a few weeks now and I am still excited when I use it! Great copies, fully automatic printing both sides. There have been no jams. Best of all it will scan multiple pages automatically into one document, yes I had my last scanner for a long time. It cost less for a Laser colour multifunction printer than it did for my last B&W laser printer, bonus! Ink is still expensive though. Show details

Not happy, you need to replace Toner as well as the drum kits that hold the toner cartridges - Expensive – Printed nicely for a while but when the toners needed to be replaced, I found out I needed to replace the drum kits that held the toners as well. This added hundreds $ to the cost of new toners. They don't tell you about this when you buy Brother printers. I'm not going to replace anything, just throw it out. Show details
Very average MFC, short life and very expensive toners, basic user interface – Having generally heard good things about Brother laser printers, and having used Canon, Epson and HP for years, we had hope for this Brother machine. Unfortunately it really missed the mark, has less capability, more expensive to run and lower quality than our last inkjet MFC. Whilst the print quality isn’t bad, it isn’t the best either. It’s… Read more
only really good for documents.
It does have good features generally speaking, but the user interface lacks innovation and easiest usability. The software and apps are outdated and limiting, and the interface on the machine isn’t always the simplest or nicest. It doesn’t have duplex scan despite having an automatic document feeder, which even cheaper inkjet MFC’s have.
What shocked me the most is that the toners ran out after 2 months with 870 pages, well short of the 2500 advertised. This is despite only printing general documents without photos. It’s then that I realised to replace the 4 Brother ink toners would cost over $450, which is MORE than what the machine even costs! Maybe I should just throw the machine out and start over each time the ink runs out.
They need to lift their game, with a number of better alternatives in the market. I doubt I’ll keep this machine longer than a year and go back to the brands I can trust.
Only got 2 and 1/2 yrs out of the machine – Not happy with this machine,I only got 30 mths use out of it and it has died (just after buying a whole set of new toners too). The touch screen has gone blank and is showing piano keys of all things.Prior to its total death it was not scanning to my laptop and the printer was getting flaky . Show details

Satisfactory but nothing more – I've had the Brother MFC-9330 for about 6 years and printed about 10,000 pages, so it's not a high use machine but definitely overdue for replacement. It's done a reasonable job, but non-genuine toners have a detrimental effect on print quality. It can be very slow to spool larger files and I was never able to get scan-to-device working on Mac… Read more
of Windows despite following instructions very carefully and not being a complete IT novice. Never had any paper feed problems of jams, but the toner waste bin and drums expired well before the end of their expected life, making operating costs higher than I hoped. I don't like the membrane-style touch screen and found it clunky and inaccurate at times, though I realised these are pretty common on printers. While I don't have buyer's remorse over this machine, I'll look at other brans for the next one.
Brother printer cartridges – Brilliant!!!Paid $42.50 with ebay for 4 cartridges and 1 cartridge costs nearly $100 in officeworks!! Good for the price and versatility – Purchased in Jan 2016. Total page count is about 4,500, so we do about 1,500 per year. It does use more toner than expected, but you just have to avoid printing unnecessary crap. Quality is good for documents and reports, but it's not a photo printer. I have had to change one of the rear fuser rollers so far, which is surprising with the low page… Read more
count we have. Otherwise just toner replacement. A bonus is that the printer works well with linux - I use OpenSuse Leap, but it also support Ubuntu linux.
NEGATIVES: highish toner cost unexpected rear fuser roller replacement. Replaced my self. (2 stars for reliability)
1/8/24 UPDATE Printed pages is now 10129, so about 23 pages per week over 8.5 years. No major issues since the one fuser roller replacement mentioned previously. We have seen more paper pickup problems where 2 sheets get pulled into the printer and jams it. I have cleaned the rubber pickup roller and it seems to be better.
Extremely disappointed – Bought the MFC9330CDW largely because of good previous experiences with Brother equipment. While the 9330 initially worked well, with reasonable quality colour prints, after the guarantee period had expired, it started to often shut down again immediately after start-up, and soon became completely unusable. Brother announced that the machine… Read more
needed a new 'mother' board, which would cost most of the price of a new machine, and was therefore uneconomical to repair. The loss is quite significant, totalling both the initial purchase price PLUS the cost of the very expensive replacement cartridges required after the original tiny ones run out! This is a bitter result for me, as I believe that equipment should NOT be designed to be trashed at first hiccup. Brother have lost me completely, and I will NEVER again purchase another Brother product of any type.
Ok Printer but only lasts 12 months before the fuser erodes crinkling your paper – I have always had brother printers and have loved them. I got 12 months out of my first one then it started crinkling up the paper which is caused by the fuser eroding away. As i had a heap of spare toner I purchased another unit (the first one was just out of warranty) and what do you know, the second unit has the same fault 12 months later. Clearly a manufacture fault with the printers but what can you do... Show details
OK printing and scanning quality but frustrating to use and can waste your time – - Update 13 May - 90 second per page print time (double sided, colour) - I'm printing a scan copy of text with some text in colour. Printing as an image from a PDF file. It is printing at 2/3rds of a page per minute... My other printer black and white laser printer is printing black and white from the same PDF at 6 pages per minute double sided.… Read more
Also, the Brother just stopped for some reason and dropped the WiFi connection. Needed a restart. No issue with the other printer during this time. - Update 29 Sep - Paper jamming now. To unjam you must remove all 4 toners and all 4 drum units. Also, you can't turn it off while jammed. It says "shutting down - On/Off to resume" I just unplugged the power cable. - Update 5 August - sheet feeder for double sided print broken after 2 months and 516 pages. Note - same as MFC9335 and MFC9340 (different model numbers for different retails allowing retailers to have 'exclusive' model). Quality of scanning and printing is ok. But the Brother is really frustrating at times: - You have to hold the power button for 5 seconds or so to turn it on or off. - Turning it off, it gives you a warning message that "all functions will be disabled" - I mean, really, I'm turning it off - isn't that what is supposed to happen? - Once on, the fan comes on even though the machine is cold. - When printing, the fan comes on and off and on and off no matter what the temperature. If it needs to be on, just leave it on... - Scanning cuts off edges of document even though placed correctly on flatbed scanner. - When scanning, you do an overview scan to set the scan area. When you scan the document, you get a message that the scanner is warming up. Hasn't it already done this? Same message when scanning another document immediately after. - You need to go through an elaborate setup process if you want to start a scan from the scanner (pressing the scan button on the machine) and send it to your computer. You need to go through the setup process even though you are already using the machine via WiFi and can start a scan from your computer. - The consumables come in 2 parts - the toner and the drum - more expense and more parts to hold as spares - you need 8 consumable items all up - Sheet feeder scanner does not feed pages straight and there is no automatic de-skew function. - Does not have an auto-off function.
So yeah, it prints and scans ok (I don't use the fax) but is frustrating to use and wastes time over other brands. Much prefer my Fuji scanner (open lid, push button, save file - done) and my HP printer (push on button (no delay), toner and drum in one, fan on only when it's needed).
DO NOT BUY! – This printer has lasted a little over a year, out of warranty and boy what a pain to use. The printer drinks the ink, I may get 1,000 pages out of an OEM cartridge. I have since started using other brands, but now getting "Clean corona wire" every 20 or so pages (no exaggeration) and the jamming is horrible. I am using a better brand of paper and it does not matter. Do not buy this printer, you will be sorry you wasted your money. Show details

Fixed My Broken Brother MFC-9330cdw printers wrinkled/embossed printouts Cheaply – My Brother MFC-9330cdw colour printer started putting these embossed bumps in all the printouts and then started wrinkling the entire paper. I rang Brother and they wanted $280 to come out and fit a new fuser unit to the back of it to fix it which I thought was not worth it as i only paid $395.00 for the printer. toner cartridges so the printer was full of ink but broken. Looking on Ebay for a cheap fuser unit I found a company selling this new fuser roller which brother won't sell by itself and I followed their step by step Youtube video on putting it into the machine and it fixed my printer for under $100.00. Apparently the cheap toners i purchased online from Inksation.com.au caused the problem. I'll never make that mistake again but was I so happy I got out of that sticky situation cheap.
Disgracefull colour quality – Both colour scans and printing have extremely poor colour quality. Pink comes out as orange; blue comes out as aqua blue and cream-white as brown-yellow. Printing pictures of people makes it look like they have jaundice. Brother service center tell me my printer is operating as per specification. Great!!!! pick it up again will cost (as lost wages) more than the cost of a new printer. My suggestio: Do not buy this printer.
Excellent Printer – Have had this printer for approximately 12 months and very satisfied with this product so far. Printing quality is good and very easy to use/set up. Laser's do use a lot of ink, so would not recommend a laser printer if you have kids at school who need to print a lot (inkjet would be better). The only problem we have had with it so far, is it sometimes prints some gobblegook code on it's own randomly. Otherwise very happy. Show details
worst printer ever – The printer toner useage is super high. And when its low the powder just splash everywhere become so messy. The service tell me just change the toner. Lasted 18 months – I was initially very happy with this printer, until the toner ran out. Replacements are very expensive & don't last as long as I expected. Officeworks Replacement Warranty & rang the helpline. I was advised to return it to my nearest store.
When I arrived, I was told that they have had several of these machines returned with the same problem. The model we had, had been discontinued & the newer model was more expensive.
We were offered a gift voucher for the amount we had paid. As we had several hundred dollars of new Brother toner that we had recently purchased, we felt we had no option but to buy the more expensive machine.
Very slow connection – Looking nice, full color, but really frustrates me when I wanted to print asap. Not good for working environment. really slow to connect from computer. Also it automatically set to print as two sided. and this really annoys me. I don't have good experience with Brother printer. If I had choice, I wouldn't go with Brother anymore. Show details
Consumption of the ink is more---shocking – I have used HP printers and I am a big fan of HP printers, but to give a try bought brother printer. - Paper curling is a big issue and its worrying as compared to others
- Consumption of the black inks is way more as compared to inkjet printers which is absolutely opposite of what I read online, laser printers should be more economic
- It seems like we have to keep many black cartridges as spare as 600 pages used up 100% of my black toner and its not like I am printing graphics, its just power point slides that I am printing which is red in color and few write up underneath.
worst printer i have ever owned. B – nothing but trouble since I purchased it First one had to be replaced by the shop because of a rare fault with one of the toner drums. trying to print a document on normal office paper.
I use it for documents as well as printing heavier card and have never, ever had so much trouble with a printer before, despite following instructions and maintain the printer as best as possible.
It's huge and heavy, ungainly, and not reliable. The colour print quality is very poor. it was selected by a friend of mine who raved about it but have no idea why.
has a good scanner and photocopier if a little slow. but the drums always left marks on the paper despite cleaning and cleaning the wires. wish I had never bought it.
Only good point is ease of installation. That's it. Won't be buying another
Worest Brother printer I have ever bought – color print quality is disgusting to start with, toner prices are sooo expensive. To have it repaired I have to literally pay the price of a new printer. It… Read more

Its been a challenging relationship – First MFC 9330CDW had three major faults in first 9 months requiring service repairs (under warranty) - two fuser unit replacements for embossing on paper and one other fault related to missing print at top of first page. Brother Service contacted after third fault and repair and to their credit replaced the printer with a new one under the… Read more
original warranty given the problems I had experienced (i.e. 3 months to run). New MFC 9330CDW fine for the first 6 months then same fuser unit problem with embossing on paper. Again Brother Service have honoured the original warranty, which is great for me as the quoted repairs would have been around $300, close to the cost of a replacement unit.
Faulty Roller a recurring problem – The first one (purchased at Office Works) had a big chuck missed from the roller within about 3 months of purchasing. Phoned Brother & they told me I need to send it back to them. I advised them that I only have to return it to the place of purchase. Took it back to Office Works & they were great - replaced it with a new one. Three months in with… Read more
replacement same problem - going back to Office Works. I have always used genuine Brother cartridges. Won't be buying Brother products again!!
Disappointing experience – When my last sub $100 inkjet printer clogged up its nozzles again, I told myself this time I'll get a quality printer. I chose the Brother MFC9330CDW because of its multiple awards. How wrong I was! Most of its functions work fine, however I have two big issues with this printer. 1) It keeps jamming when printing double sided. I've wasted so… Read more
much ink and paper it's not funny at all, the poor Brazilian rainforest would have been saved if I printed single sided. I must point out that at this point I have yet to use 50% of the original black toner, I haven't been printing multiple thesises with it.
As it was just out of warranty (will come to that later), Brother did repair it out of good will. Guess what, after I got the printer back, first double sided print I attempted, it jammed again. Mind you it was the freshest, crispest paper straight out of a brand new ream.
2) The 1 year warranty does not show much confidence from Brother either, I would expect a $400 printer to be more reliable, and for its manufacturer to have more faith. In my case I would have been better off buying a $50 printer from the supermarket and throwing it away once the ink runs out.
Very disappointing experience, I would not recommend this printer if you rely on one for your business.
Drives Me Nuts - Can't Stop 2-Sided Jams and Cannot Turn Off 2-sided setting – I bought this printer thinking it was a good value laser. Somehow the double sided rollers have decided to jam everytime they are used, and the drivers are so basic and difficult to use I have spent over an hour trying to figure out how to stop it printing double sided. When I rang Brother they gave me a tech to visit half an hour away and so I… Read more

Prints well, but that's not enough – I bought this multi-function printer a few months ago on 28th November 2015. Can't say I'm delighted with it. My partner uses PC and I use Mac, and we have connected the printer to our home network. regularly. I do more scanning and copying than printing, and my partner only prints. We don't use the fax feature.
Good Points:
This is the first printer we have had that works for both PC and Mac. There is however a bias in favour of PC users. Mac users miss out on several features.
Print quality is excellent, and printing time is perfectly fine, working equally well for PC and Mac users, and equally well whether the unit is connected via Wi-Fi or Ethernet cable.
Copy quality is also excellent. In fact the copy sometimes looks better than the original (esp. if the original was in pencil).
Scanning is weak (see below) but one positive is a "High Compression PDF" filetype (only available if scan is launched from the PC or Mac, not available from the printer's touchscreen). This is a great feature because file sizes are much smaller. I no longer need to manually compress my PDF files after scanning (which I needed to do with my previous HP printer/scanner).
Start-up time is quite acceptable, and build quality seems to be good.
Bad Points:
The ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) is one-sided only a.k.a "Simplex". Though the printer is proudly advertised as two-sided, the ADF is single-sided only, meaning you can't automatically scan or copy two-sided originals. This was a nasty surprise when I got home, because of course there was no mention of it by the shop (which seemed a bit clueless and didn't stock the 2-sided ADF model anyway) or on the box or the advertising. I've since learned If you want 2-sided ADF, you need to go the next model up MFC-9340CDW. I am really missing the 2-sided ADF from my old HP.
Setting up was tiresome for the Mac (took several hours). Eventually I downloaded the software from the Brother website and got it to work.
Scanning is very weak:
If the unit is connected via Wi-Fi, scanning (from PC or Mac) is unbelievably slow at 2 minutes per page. The wait is so long that any reasonable person could assume it had crashed. And no, this has nothing to do with my router (which btw is the "super fast" D-Link Taipan AC3200 enjoying an easy life supporting only a handful of devices), and besides, printing via Wi-Fi is not slow, only scanning.
Once the unit is connected to the network by Ethernet cable, scanning speed is fine.
There is no OCR (Optical Character Recognition) available out of the box. PC users can however download (free) software to enable OCR (but you'll have to search for it on the web). There is nothing for Mac users.
No OCR means when you scan a written document into PDF it only scans the image (the picture of the document) itself, i.e. the words in the document are not recognised, which means you can't search for keywords in the scanned document. This is another feature I miss from the old HP.
Another annoying feature .. when scanning, the Brother doesn't recognise the size of the document. You need to tell it. My former HP did auto-size recognition.
One final disappointment for Mac users -- scanning from the Printer's touchscreen only works for PC. It does not work for Macs (at least not for my Mac) unless you turn off the Mac's firewall (which I don't want to do for security), and rest assured I've tried to for hours to find a work-around to this problem. So the only way to scan for Mac users is via the Brother "ControlCenter" software.
The "ControlCentre" software is different between PC and Mac users. There are many more features for PC users, and only basic features for Mac users.
Would I buy this again?
Definitely not this particular model again, but mainly because of the single-sided ADF. Maybe a higher model, but I'd need to research other brands too. And next time, I'll be buying from a shop that knows printers and can give some useful advice.
Great so far – Seems a great printer, so far so good. The scanning and copying functions are very easy to use, but there's more control in the detailed settings if you want it. Installation was unnecessarily troublesome – the install disc was old and didn't support OSX 10.11.x but luckily Brother's website had a driver download available. There's also no USB… Read more
cable included, which I find bizarre. Some of the settings were unnecessary for my intended use, but I found it hard to sift through how to set everything up. Anyway it mustn't be too hard because I muddled through. Ink Station have well priced genuine Brother toner cartridge sets for this model. Saved a bundle on what office supplies stores charge.
After 18 months, the cost of service is more than a new machine – I started having crinkles in my paper from this machine. I call a service technician, he said it was the fuse roller damage. New fuse roller $210, Service labour $135. Total $345 NEW MACHINE $350 Why do they only make machines to last just over a year? (1 year warranty BTW) The print quality and functions were great.
Makes life difficult unnecessarily – The printing, scanning and faxing functions themselves are very good, but where this unit falls down is the built in software which seems intent on making life difficult. For example, it just gives up printing when it thinks the toner cartridges have printed enough pages, even though there is still toner in the cartridge and there is no fading of… Read more
print. There is no option to ignore the printer's error message and keep going. It also doesn't matter if the print job actually needs the colour or not - the whole thing just refuses to print (ie. if you run out of blue it still wont let you print a document that only requires black). To make it worse, you can't interchange cartridges between machines. They have something built in to stop you taking the cartridge out of one unit and using it in another. This has brought particular workstations in our office to a complete standstill on occasion. I wouldn't buy these units.
Works perfectly – I purchased this printer at the beginning of the year, and it is still working perfectly. I haven't installed the software on my computers, as I only use wireless printing, which is a cinch to use. I print double sided, and also with the auto document feeder, it is perfect for our small office. I can also scan documents directly to a usb without… Read more

Horrible installation software and won't print double sided! – I bought this printer because it's a laser printer with double sided printing capabilities, specifically to be more economical than our old Canon inkjet which went through ink like a drunken sailor goes through whiskey. The setup process is also very non-intuitive! I have an iMac and I would warn anyone with an Apple computer away from purchasing this printer. It was a really frustrating installation process and it's still not setup properly.
I've had it for two weeks and taking it back for a store credit this afternoon. I'm really shy of Brother products now I've got to say.
Great Printer – We have owned this printer for 6 months and it is excellent. No wifi issues easy to get up and running. Scans prints faxes and photocopies with reasonable speed, perfect for medium light home office work.
Installation nightmare – The installation CD was incompatible with OSX10.10.2 but the setup guide pretty much exclusively refers to following the prompts on the CD. Downloaded the drivers from Brother - got the scanner working but still can't print over the network, even though the printer and computer are both connected to the same network. It still doesn't work...
This Just Worked – My need is for a multifunction home printer/fax/scanner however I was totally sick of our HP Multi Function inkjet which was rejecting partially used cartridges as "Out of Date", again and again and never seemed to print first go until you acknowledged that another cartridge was faulty or out of date.
