Affordable lens for portraits – Love my Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 lens. Love this lens affordable for the beginner or amature photographer, great for portraits, with lovely bokeh effect. Feels a little cheap on the down side but other than that. Highly recommend.

OK – I think this lens is a gift from Canon to it's users; for users who wants to explore portrait shooting and prime lens with low price tag (around $100). The lens produces nice bokeh and sharp picture quality. However the built quality is terrible, it's probably the lousiest lens Canon made. That said there's little wobbling of the inner tube and… Read more

unless you abuse it there're no reasons to believe that it'll not last. Picture quality: Sharp, nice bokeh. Features: The AF speed feels pretty fast, the lens uses a linear extension system for focusing, the front element does not rotate during focusing. Weight just 130g and with a dimension of 68x41mm it's also extremely compact. Built quality: 1-star. The lens barrel is made of plastic down to the mount. All-in-all you feel the price tag here. Having say that, it works out better than the cheapo kit zooms.

second to none means it is the best, so i dont think you understand the meaning of that statement when you use it here

Great lens – This is a great quick, portrait lens. I use it mostly for photographing my son, and the pictures turn out really well. It is also cheap for such a great lens. It is light. Quick, sharp, inexpensive

Excellent – This is a must have lens for any Canon owner, as it is so cheap and produces excellent images - which is the most important factor. I even dropped my lens the first time I used it when changing lens, and there was no damage - so the plastic body can't be too bad! It is a great lens to begin your prime lens collection. If you can afford a DSLR,… Read more

then forking out just over $100 more wont hurt too much. Great value for money lens.

The quality of the images shot with this lens are excellent. They are pin sharp, and have excellent bokeh.

Great for low light and ideal for portraits.

Lightweight None. The plastic body is what you would expect for the price.

Good – Best value for money in the Canon range. Every Canon owner should have one. They take spectacular portraits. I have also got some great landscapes from this lens. cheap sharp plastic feel difficult sometimes to get AF to work

Excellent – For what you pay for this lens, you get maximum bang for your buck. Bought this lens to take indoor photos of our baby and the pictures look like they were professionally taken. Its an F1.8 lens, so its fast enough for most indoor use and I would normally use it at F2 to F2.2 for portraits, anyway. For cameras with 1.6X crop, this 50 mm lens is… Read more

equivalent to an 80 mm, so very useful for portrait photography. This lens was recommended to me by a professional photography friend of mine and it was the best advice I'd received when upgrading to digital slr. Very economical. Clean, clear photos. Good autofocus.
