Love this camera to bits – We actually got this camera in a bundle we purchased from harvey norman. We absolutely love it. It has taken some lovely photos from the birth of our child, to exotic wildlife and outdoor adventures. It manages to take crystal clear photos and has some pretty cool picture effects built in, so you dont even have to edit them (Although if your… Read more

tricky you still can!) I would recommend purchasing all the extras to go with it, like the cases and lenses. Because i cant tell you how often we atually do change the lense and how often the carry case has been handy for trips out and about.

The EOS 1000D will take first time DSLR users to the next level of photography. It has many different lenses to suit and is fun to use. The photo's are beautiful when printed and they would most definately look great either on cd, photo album, web page or scrapbook.… Read more

Great starting out digital SLR – I bought this camera as a second camera when my 400d was getting fixed. I was told it was basically the same, but couldn't agree. I found it had some great new features and was pretty easy to use, however it was not as good as the 400d. I found the pictures were not as clear until after I had been using it for a few months and worked out… Read more

different things. Maybe it was just that I was used to my 400d.

I love that it came with the Image stabilising lens, and that you can have live view.

The pictures are definitely of a SLR quality and I think it would be a great starting out camera, and it's price is great. Great price, has an IS option for the lens, and an optional twin lens kit. Great clear pictures and live view function. Manual easy to follow. Overall an easy to use, beginner friendly camera, Fits cheaper SD cards. Took me a little while to get used to it. No internal memory

Good step up – I bought this Camera with the twin lens kit, it has an 18-55mm and a 75-300mm lens, it cost me $677 when I bought it mid 2011. the zoom lens is great and I have really enjoyed using it, I have never classed myself as a "great" photographer but with this camera I have been able to take some really nice photos, better than I have ever taken before.… Read more

The fact that it does not record movies is not a concern for me, I have a HD video camera which takes great HD, I have seen the quality of video from photo cameras and it is not as good as what a true video camera can produce, that's just my opinion. Battery life is excellent and camera is generally easy to use.

Software included with camera is very good also. Reasonable price, extra lens, Canon reputation for excellent photos. No video recording

Great entry level camera for those wanting to upgrade from a point and shoot to a DSLR – An affordable DSLR capable of delivering great photos. While the Canon lenses are very expensive you can buy other brands like SIGMA that will fit the Canon body and still produce lovely photos. DSLR technology has accelerated in the past few years so the 1000D has been left behind in a few departments the obvious one being the capability to… Read more

shoot video.

If you have no intention to shoot video and just want an affordable DSLR then this camera is for you.

If you do not have any SLR knowledge you will find the manual settings for this DSLR confusing. Affordable, great quality shots, great battery life, lightweight. Does not shoot HD video, has a fairly limited ISO range

Good – A great first DSLR camera, small enough to take on holidays without needing to take extra luggage. Look for one with the twin lens kit and keep an eye out for it going on special. This is a really easy to use DSLR camera, perfect for a beginner. It takes great photos on all it's auto settings and the pocket guide you get with it is great for when… Read more

you decide to be adventurous and try manual settings. For a DSLR it's quite compact and light and very well priced. The rubber surround for the view finder sometimes comes off, can be a little annoying.

Excellent – Takes a brilliant picture in fully auto mode. Plenty of scope to use your own technique and skill. I bought it in a twin lens kit on special for under AU$600 and for that price it's excellent. I paid more than this for an SLR film camera 20 years ago and the results are far better on the new one. Someone says it's bulky but for an SLR it's about… Read more

right. I don't use image stabilisation but for a person who has shaky hands I'm sure that's great too.

In two words.........LOVE IT!!!!! Good focus, fairly simple to use, plenty of accessories available. I don't believe there is a better camera for this money. Plastic mount on lenses

Excellent – Canon EOS 1000D / Rebel XS represents a modest upgrade over its predecessor and in some feature respects an actual downgrade. Canon knows new entry-level DSLR buyers highly value the presence of Image Stabilisation and Live View, both of which are now crucially offered here. Canon now offers both Live View and stabilisation on all its consumer… Read more

DSLRs. Canon EOS 1000D has 10 Megapixels, Image Stabilisation, Live View and more AF points than many of its rivals. Some feature respects an actual downgrade.

Excellent – I have had this canon eos 1000 now for about 1 year and loving it. Building a house so taking many pictures which look fantastic. Also just had a little baby girl so the hdmi clips are great! Will be great to look back at in years to come. I would change nothing about this camera, The instruction book is very easy to understand also. So Im very… Read more

Good – Overall, takes a very good picture with a fantastic interface to PC. I always value a product on how easy it is to use WITHOUT having to use the instructions, being a bloke we always have to play with everything first and use it - even though we always know in the manual it will say "Read this before using" we never do. I found the camera very… Read more

friendly to use without having to continually look through the book. Once you become familiar with the lay out and menu controls you can have a quick play then start to refer to the manual for finer details. Good value for money, good selection of lenses Screen a little small, buttons are all over the place, ok once you get used to it.

Good – All good, good price for very good camera. Very professional looking photos, high resolution. Easy to use (In Auto or P) Has capabilty of advance settings, I've just got to spent the time and know-how to learn all its features, but in the meantime, getting excellent results operating it in its basic mode. Almost professional grade camera, but can be operated simply by beginner Optional accessories ( not essential) are expensive

Excellent – i love this camera. it's sophisticated enough for an entry level DSLR, easy to use. the screen is wide enough to view the image clearly and on shooting mode it gives you the details of the camera's setting for beginners this is a good DSLR, easy to use, not too expensive, light weight and produce good image a bit bulky, but again it's a DSLR

Excellent – An awesome DSLR. I have not every regretted buying this camera. The IS lens is a must. Super light and compact. Very easy to use. Very clear images. Low noise at higher ISO. IS is very useful. LCD is not anti-reflective, gets smudged easy.
