Awesome entry-level camera – Bought this camera about a year ago and it has been great! Awesome quality, easy use and great to learn the fundamentals of photography. I would recommend Canon camera's to anyone looking to get into their own social media management, digital design or photography services. The cost is not too steep either which makes it an even better purchase.  Show details

Great photo quality! – Although this product has been discontinued it has produced really great photos, it has been easy to use and has been a pleasure to own. I love that the video quality on this has always been 1080p, the photos are exceptional, great for beginners. I got mine with two lenses and they have both been really good. However, I would opt to go with something more along the lines of the 600D model.

Fantastic camera! – A user-friendly camera with a good range of settings. Excellent quality photos, fast shutter speed and quick-change modes that enable you to adapt to your environment, without having to change lots of settings.

Canon 1100D - A lot of bang for your buck – For an entry level DSLR this camera is fantastic value for money. Its so easy to use and is packed with a lot of great functions. The LCD screen is a decent size and the menus are easy to navigate. The battery life is also quite good and can take plenty of pictures before having to recharge. The size and weight of this camera is absolutely… Read more ·  1

brilliant, its not bulky like other cameras and allows you to be able to carry it around all day.

If you are looking to explore digital photography more, then this camera will allow you to experiment and take amazing photos and it wont cost a small fortune. I have shot great landscape, macro and portrait pictures with this camera.

Being an entry level DSLR camera, it does have it drawbacks. In low light situations this camera does not perform that well. From about 400 ISO you will see a lot of grain/noise in the picture and the higher you go the worse it gets. In good light situations though it performs rather well. An good external flash solved a lot of the grain/noise issues but unfortunately this camera does not have wireless flash support and needed an additional optical trigger to run external flashes remotely. Something to consider, as this can be expensive and frustrating.

The body of this camera is made out of flimsy plastic and is not really tough or durable. One drop and you'll most likely crack it, so care must be taken when handling it. It only has one SD card slot so be sure to get one with a large capacity.

After a year of use im still very happy with this camera and I use it almost everyday. It's a lot of camera for the price and I would highly recommend this for anyone wanting to get into digital photography. Take great pictures, cheap, reliable, long battery life, perfect entry level DSLR Does not perform well in low light, fragile body, no wireless flash support

So far - an excellent product – This review may be premature - but so far everyone in our family is very impressed with this camera. We've always had lower end of the market cameras (under $150) and have managed to get some good scenery photos but I wanted a camera that would take better zoom shots and fast movement shots such as my daughter galloping on her horse. This… Read more

camera + kit was good value at $566. We ordered it from Good Guys for $588 but then while we were waiting for it to come in it was on special at Harvey Norman for $566 so they price matched it when it finally arrived in. The kit included a camera and a twin lens kit, battery charger, battery, neck strap, lead for the computer and some software which I haven't got around to using yet. The shorter lens is 18-55 mm for closer shots and the longer lens 75-300mm for distance shots. A year ago this kit was selling for about $1200. About the only thing the kti didn't come with is a camera bag or case to keep everything in.

I read every review I could find on the internet about this camera and about DLSR cameras in general before going for this camera. It is described as an entry level camera - for those getting into professional photography. In my internet search I only found a few minor complaints about this camera - one person felt it was a bit plasticky. Most people liked it - one woman who was a professional photographer said it was better than the first camera she'd paid heaps for.

Warning - this camera is overwhelming if you've only ever used a small digital camera and aren't tech savvy - it seems to have endless features to understand. So far I have only managed to take a few hesitant photos with it on auto, but I have been happy with all of them.

Hubby and the kids aren't as overwhelmed by technology as I am and they have been having a great time - taking photos of speeding boats, birds in trees and close up shots of nature.

Hubby took some shots of a building about 200 metres away to compare both lenses. With the distance lens you could see hinges on the door, while the shorter lens gave crisp shots of the building and surroundings. Having both lenses certainly increases the versatility of the camera.

We also took a distance photo of a car with our old 14mp camera on 10 optical zoom - and the number plate was not readable - but using the 300mm lens, the numberplate was easy to read.

So far the battery hasn't run flat on the camera. The battery might be an issue for some people because this camera doesn't take standard batteries - you have to charge the battery provided in the charger which plugs into the wall. It didn't take that long to charge (about half an hour) but it would probably pay to have two of these batteries to swap over if are are ardent photographer.

Time will tell - but so far I think this camera is excellent if you are looking to move from amateur photographer to semi-professional photographer. Good price for a entry level DLSR camera.Great family camera providing a couple of the family memebrs are tech savvy. No carry bag. A bit overwhelming for novice photographers.

Just what I was looking for – I wanted a good quality easy-to-use SLR which I didn't need to be too precious with, with some versatility, and had decent Li-ion battery life (I find nothing more annoying than running out of battery). I got it for $AUD325 with lens kit and it simply hasn't disappointed. I have found it interesting to hear people talking it down when comparing to… Read more

cameras that cost 3-5 times as much. I have since found online comparisons with 1100D and 18MP canon slrs as well as nearest competitors and 1100D does remarkably well even before taking the entry-level price into account. It turns out that high-end canon slrs and high-end competitor slrs can only shoot 40-70% the number of shots as the 1100D before running out of battery, and the image quality stacks up very well for complex coloured textures and crisp lines/text, even when compared to 18MP systems. lightweight (but not too light or unsteady) construction, comfortable, and intuitive. Image focus, colour, crispness are great. 3fps and SD video is fine for general use. Take general use, quality, cost and battery life into account in any SLR range and this camera is difficult to beat. Excellent for price - ideal weight/handling -> don't have to be precious about it

Great easy to use SLR - perfect for a novice like me! – I have never had an SLR before, and had no idea how to use one... however I bought this camera only a few days ago, and am already very confident with it. It takes really clear photos, and is so easy to use. I ready the quick start manual which took about 5 mins, started taking photos and that was that. A fab first camera for an SLR novice… Read more

like me. I will mainly be using this to take pics of my kids, and so far have already taken a dozen pics which are far better than any i have ever taken with my previous point and shoot camera.

I purchased it on sale at Dick Smith Electrical, $200 off, for $450. Couldn't be happier! Great camera for a first time SLR user, like me. The zoom lense included with the Single Lens Kit doesn't zoom very far, but additional lenses can be purchased.

Best Entry level camera for its PRICE RANGE – I have been using my sister's Canon 600D with Twin lens (which cost approximately $1400 Australian). I decided to get my own after months of borrowing my sisters and my budget wasn't as high. I shopped around and found that many stores are selling it for approximately $900 as a twin lens package. I found a shop that was selling it for $750 and… Read more

price matched it at JB Hi-Fi. I ended up paying $680 + bag, 8gig Class10 SDHC memory card, 2 lens protectors and 2 years warranty for $800 total.

This camera is great for beginners - I had taken 3 courses on photography - Exposure, Lens and fundamentals. After playing around with this camera for a month, I have come to a conclusion that although this is a great camera as a beginner, you will soon want to buy better lens. Upgrading your lens is another ball game, and I recommend beginners stick with the standard, cheap lens that come with this camera before upgrading to a much more expensive lens.

You can buy a $3000 camera + $5000 lens but if you don't know how to use it, an experienced photographer with a $800 camera (Canon EOS 1100D) will take better photos. Reliable, Best value for money, best price for it's entry level, light in weight This camera is for casual and beginner photographers only. After learning photography, lens fundamentals and practice, you will want to upgrade the standard lens for better 'shots'.

Perfect entry level camera! – I am fairly new to the world of DLSR cameras - I have so much more to learn and this camera has so much to offer without making the photo taking process intimidating. There are not too many buttons and a learner can stay in AUTO and still take amazing quality pictures! Inexpensive, amazing quality, great instruction book and warranty! Little light weight

Really Happy – I got this for my birthday plus a lens and bag kit. I am really happy that the 1100D has all the features bar a few from the latest 600D and overall it is just about what lens you stick on it. I got a 50mm fixed focal lens as well as i intend to do a lot of portarit work. Cheap and reliable Not the latest mpodel but you get what you pay for with Canon no more and no l;ess
