Coonara Grange Inbuilt

Noisy combustion fan – An otherwise fine appliance is utterly spoiled by the noise of the combustion fan. The room fan is quiet by comparison. The combustion fan relentlessly "drones" about 4 times per second. Show details
Good after sales service – We've had it since June 2020. Had a couple of teething issues at first however Paul from Coonara has been great and sorted things without fuss. Would recommend Coonara for their after sales service. Show details
Smoke streams out of the vent when initially lit. Why? – We have a Coonara wood fire. Every so often, about once every 5th-10th time we light it, smoke streams from the vent and fills the house. The door is closed? Show details
Can be unreliable – Expensive to maintain to keep it running, unreliable Replacing second ignition module in Coonara within a 2 year period, to the day. Difficult to start Can be very noisy looks nice when working heats well I would not buy another Show details
Glass again cracked in the same location - third time in 7 years – For the 3rd time in 7 years the glass has again cracked. There must be something wrong with the design as it always cracks in the same place - right where the glass curves to give the 'bay window' effect. To my mind this must mean the design is not suited to the purpose. Every replacement costs us another $600. For the cost of the constant… Read more
glass replacements we could have bought a more reliable heater. Not only that but it takes 5-6 weeks to be replaced.
Very Good,Still early days! / Still going well after 2 years – Only had for 2 months, working very well.It does the whole house, well most of it.Much better than our rinnai energy saver. It was hard to deside on a gas log heater, but we bought this because of large area this one can do ( 20 square metres ).Not many reviews on this model (1 bad one for this ) but there must be some happy buyers out there.See how… Read more
this is goes in 12 months time,so far very happy.
Product up date. After 2 years 3 months heater still going well with only one problem being a gas leak 12 months in.All good after Coonara came next day to fix.External fitting started to leak, only noticeable when heater was on.Heater has been working hard, can be costly to run with gas cost rising. But no more than buying red gum for our old wood burner. Very powerful, radiant heat excellent. Cost / fan can make unit vibrate if not sitting write.
Fan seems noisy – I am happy with the look of the heater and the amount of heat it generates. It warms my home in no time at all. However I am concerned that the fan makes a whirring sound similar to a faulty bearing when on low speed which is annoying and something I need to get checked. The look and efficiency. Fan is noisy when on low.
Glass cracks immediately – The glass cracked within a day of installation. Glass was replaced by manufacturer and I was told the installer was at fault only to have the glass crack again the next day! Still waiting to hear from the company.. The heater does throw out heat but don't expect it to look great with permanently cracked glass..
we have had ours for just on 5 months [put in prior to xmas] we tried it last night and even before… Read more
Great heater. Efficient, reliable and great heat – I love the heat this heater produces. It is very efficient also. The fan is very powerful and it starts every time with no problems. Works well with the thermostat, avoiding pumping out unnecessary heat. I'm guessing the bad reviews are from people who may not have had a good installer. Efficiency.
Will it Last! – I purchased a Coonara Grange Classic Inbuilt gas heater in July 2010. Installation was not completed until March 2011 as the installer needed to obtain a "termination" unit to duct the inlet and outlet out the side of the chimney. It was fired up for the first time In June 2011 and worked very well for about a month before starting then… Read more
flickering out. The installer returned and made some adjustments and it worked again.
I went overseas in July and it was not started again until May/June 2012.
It went well for a period then failed again with the same problem. The installer returned and fixed the problem on 5/7, 17/7 and 2/8 with the heater working when they left then after a few days igniting then
going out.
I spoke to Shamic the manufacturer who expressed disappointment with the installer and advised a new service agent has been appointed.
The heater has now been fixed again in the past 2 weeks but with the end of winter it will not be used again until next year.
My concern is that the warrantly period has now finished on a product which has not worked continuously since purchase.
Furthermore The service agent tells me that problems with this model are widespread.
I have written to Shamic seeking assurances they will stand by the warranty for this particular issue until it is fixed but to date I have not had a response.
I also copied my concerns to the retailer Buring Log but alas no comment. When working it throws out terrific heat Ignition issues

Nothing but trouble – First the screws holding the glass in were seized, the main burner jet was incorrect it rattles (the heat exchange tubes hit the outer case & make a lot of noise ) the electronic control was not functioning properly & had to be replaced & of cause it none of this is covered by the concrete warranty (once off their concrete there is no warranty ) &… Read more
to top it all off for no apparent reason the glass cracked from top to bottom. So to sum this heater up it is a piece of over priced crap.
What was right with it?
Just had the glass crack in mine for the second time in two months. NOT HAPPY!

Forgot to mention... this is a completely replaced unit after ignition circuit failed. Both have the droning noise. Systemic design fault.
