Dell Inspiron One 2310

Disappointment – I rarely give bad reviews, so it's with sadness I give one star to what may have been a single lemon amongst many good ones. I bought this computer just over 4 years ago direct from Dell. It came with the standard warranty and 6 months of on call help/technical support. Is 4 years good enough for a computer with minimal home use? No it's not. … Read more
It looks great, it's slimline and fits into smaller spaces, and the large touch screen is a pleasure to use and look at. It came with intel core i3, windows 7, service tag D61G3P1 (in case you have one in similar number sequence). My first issue was just 5 months later - it crashed, deleted my files, turned off/on all by itself and began the dreaded blue screen. Dell sent out a technician who replaced the motherboard and other things, reinstalled drivers and the OS etc and changed my name from Daniel to Danial.
The PC worked well for a few months then simply dropped my DVD drive and no amount of online help would get it back. It again started to do strange things. like occasionally turning itself on and off again, often freezing for long periods of time, with no help from diagnostics. We still used it despite its faults from 2012 to 2013 although my kids couldn't use the big screen for any DVD's. I contacted Dell soon after the trouble began again who shrugged me off as it had been a year since the purchase.
Then in mid 2013 it crashed again, like the first time. I complained to Dell again and made a big thing out of it. To their credit and my complete surprise given that 10 months before they wouldn't help me my hoo haa worked (they MUST recognise a lemon) and they responded with lengthy email instructions and when they didn't work directed me to a local technician. The tech again fixed it, replaced the DVD drive, graphics card, and possibly also the motherboard.
The PC again worked fine...for a while. The same old problems began to resurface soon after, such as freezing and the DVD drive disappearing again, and no instructions could retrieve it. By now it was close to the end of 2014. I again contacted Dell and was advised there was nothing they could do. I reasoned with them that I clearly had a lemon given the number of times I had contacted them and the issues I have had in a short period of time but they were not interested.
The PC trotted along with the same old problems and stopped working every couple of months. Rebooting with system restore and system recovery helped on a few occasions until October 2015. Nothing helps now and when I get to the blue windows screen it simply flashes/flickers. It doesn't boot up and I've lost all my files/emails etc. This was my 2nd, and last, Dell computer. Whilst I understand they can't offer an endless warranty my (documented) record with this PC was enough to show it was indeed a lemon, not a standard complaint, and the PC perhaps should have been replaced in 2013 when it caused the same problems again. The problem is my issues were addressed by tech staff only - the PC should have been recognized as a lemon and my issue transferred to a higher authority for assessment.
Moral of this story is to look beyond the product. They all do the same thing, use the same systems etc. The one things that differs is the company and the level of service they provide. Look into that when choosing your next PC and as for Dell, I've done your homework.
What a Great Computer R.I.P – I love this computer, up until last week on the night of the storm, (and i had a LAN Cable attached, which in hindsight was bloody stupid) when it got blew all to hell, thank God I have insurance, Geeks2U want $900 odd plus labor to replace the Mother Board, must be 18 carat gold, but i think the computer was great could of kept me going for… Read more · 1
another 5 years, it was always fast, prompt at loading pages and great graphics, I cant stand dealing with some techy from Mumbai, so i tend to stare clear of Dell's after sales service.Im sorry to hear Dell has discontinued this model I hope my replacement is as good.
Poor customer service and pc – Bout this all in one at the end of 2010. Had it for a couple of months and the one day it would not turn one. Called dell and had to deal with a tech. Over the phone (my mobile my cost) for an hour. He had no idea and had to keep running off to ask someone for advice. Eventually after a day or o they sent someone to pick it up. This computer… Read more
company had it for three months. At first couldn't diagnose the problem then they had to wait 6 to 8 weeks for parts. Standard dell protocol apparently. Another dell policy s they don't replace computers with new ones. Well had this 'fixed' computer for bout 7 months and it died again. Now it was out of warranty I had to deal with the extended warranty company (thank god I paid up for this). The new computer company had my computer for at least 4 weeks before they cold diagnose the problem. Then again had to wait the standard 6 to 8 weeks again. Only it was more like 12 weeks. And guess what...dell sent refurbished parts not new ones. I am so lucky this new computer service company refused to install the refurbished parts as I reckon this is what happened the first time. My extended warranty company came through and got me a store credit so I can now buy a new pc. The computer service company said they are getting so many all in ones coming in to be fixed. So guess what...won't be buying an all in one and def won't be buying dell. Rant over.
Dell large screen desktop "all in one" – A service repair man advised me not to buy another laptop as my "main" computer if I didn't need portability. Towers take up a lot of space in a small dek and until I saw this computer, I thought I would buy another laptop. What attracted me to the DELL was that they are a global company - no fly by night company - and when I saw that this… Read more · 2
computer had a large screen - about 20" screen size horizontally, I thought this would be great as I wouldn't need to zoom in - and I don't.
I asked the sales assistant where the tower was, she said there wasn't one - all the USB ports, Card Readers and the CD drive were located on either side of the screen so they were easy to access.
The main ports for the cables to plug into a modem or the keyboard are at the back of the computer so once it is plugged in, you shouldn't need to move it if you grab the Service Tag number etc which is located at the back. You need the service tgag number to register on the DELL site.
This computer has around 500GB HDD and 2 GB of RAM which is plenty for me and my needs.
I found the registration easy but what was confusing was tryin to find out if all the drivers were installed (or changed since manufacturing) - I've never had to do this before. I rang up the help desk and they put me straight - great customer service really.
For me the set up was different to other major brands, but I guess once it's done then that's it ... so no biggie.
The computer came with a start up Microsoft Office 2010, and a start up antivirus program. I removed these as I had my own Microsoft Office and Anti-virus software that I preferred.
The computer also came pre-loaded with several games as well as SKYPE and other software too.
Apart from a buzzing noise which I hear from time to time, I'm very happy with the computer and to have a full size keyboard for the first time in years. And I love the big screen - I doubt I would ever go back to a standard sized laptop again as I don't need the portability for day to day computing needs.
So far so good. Thanks DELL No tower - everything that "drives" the computer is at the back of the screen Some minor buzzing noise from time to time but it doesn't worry me particularly
Bumble Bee stuck in the computer – Fantastic customer service! I have never found better customer service in any company than Dell. If that's what you want when you splash out your cash, good - You're gonna need it! I bought this brand new from a retailer, and really loved it, everything looked great.... for the first hour. Then, getting over my awe of a seemingly great machine,… Read more
settling in to really use it, I found myself reaching for the fly swat. Failing to find the biggest blow fly I have ever heard, listened more closely for the sound..... and there it was. Called Dell. They picked it up - no charge. 5 weeks later (Yes, 5 weeks!)they returned it fixed! It lasted 2 weeks, when the new hard drive failed. Not happy when I'm in the middle of my uni exams. Called Dell. They came to my house in 2 days, replacing the hard-drive, leaving me with the old one. So... how do I recover my files? Dell does not cover that. Called a computer guy to come out... but.. wait...the flamin buzzing sound just started again. 8 weeks old, only 2 weeks use out of it, 6 weeks downtime. If that's your idea of value, dont go wasting your money on one of those fantastic HPs. I wish I did. I will be calling Dell first thing tommorow. It's feel better about it now, because they know my name, as they will yours if you buy one. Just wish I extended my warranty.... Great customer service - you will need it faulty hardware, 8 weeks old & 6 weeks in the shop... and counting.
Great computer - large screen – Dell customer service is amazing, I dropped my keyboard and a new one was sent out the next day no questions asked at no cost - wow! I like how Dell auto magically backs up my most important file to the Dell cloud for free - fantastic security. Great screen allows you to have two good sized windows open at once. Touchnscreen is great , I… Read more
dont really use the feature a lot but good to have
Looks great on the desk and doesn't take up much space. Have taken it away on holidays with me and left my laptop at home as I love the large screen.
