2 Years, RAM failure – This was one of the most expensive purchases I had made as a student. It was such a great little device to use for my studies, but unfortunately less than 2 years of use, the ram has failed. Almost $2k AUD for a laptop that only lasts a mere 2 years is abysmal. The worst part is the ram is soldered on to the motherboard so it'll be an expensive… Read more

repair.

Upon further research, this ram failure issue is common with the xps 13 line. Hopefully they have rectified it for the newer models but I don't think I'll be purchasing a dell in the near future.

Bought for durability, but only lasted 2 years! – I did my research on HP v Dell and thought I'd buy Dell (even though my previous HP was excellent). I wanted a durable laptop for travel, so opted for the business, hardcase and known brand XPS 13. It was a good laptop, but I was shocked to see it black-screen after only two years. It was likely a motherboard or screen failure - the techs said… Read more

they'd have to send it away to find out which one. As either repairs would many hundreds of dollars and see me without a computer for up to three months, I resigned myself to declaring it dead. At the tender age of two. There are plenty of other reviews like this. Suggest trying another brand.

Beautiful and powerful machine when new (like new couple), but later on beauty diminishing (like old couple :-)) – . Overall when new: - An excellent machine with beautiful modern design. Pros: - Very portable and is easy to move around with. - Good power and handles even high resources job well, without getting hot. Sometimes gets warm if complex tasks are running for long but not hot which shows the balance and workload handling. - Excellent screen… Read more

with vivid colors and good to look at.

Cons: - Only two Type-C ports which could have been extended to three, or could have been provided with dongle having extra ports (like Huawei Matebook X Pro). - The biggest flaw is the keyboard color coating which is of very poor quality. I have the gray one, and after using for six months, the color started to come off. For instance, the Ctrl button is now white plastic showing back light and kind of a map. Similarly A and C buttons started to do the same and I am quite sure soon there will be no letters to be shown on buttons. The whole beauty of the laptop is gone because of it.

Conclusion: The first thing for which the laptop is attractive is the design, but once the buttons are having the condition of color, that first thing is starting to vanish. This never happened with old Dell XPS 13, and I am starting to think of switching just because of that. I hope Dell will reconsider to use the right materials in future.

Distortion in the sound speaker , come and go and you don't know the reason of it. because there is no heat sink the laptop worms up very quickly with just very simple using such as internet exploring . don't buy it even if used and with very low price it is not worth any money you will have a laptop with almost fake specifications. and very bad quality and many manufacturer malfunctions.

A wonderful computer, NB:: ALL manufacturers have bad "support" reviews – I felt to leave this review, as when I was considering which laptop to buy I looked here for advice and was VERY alarmed by what I read, so much so that I reconsidered buying Dell at all, but when I did further research and spoke with a friend who is a network engineer, here is what I found. 1. ALL manufacturers get bad reviews for service if you… Read more

google them (apart from Apple) 2. If you read review sites Dell does not do badly at all. 3. Dell sells directly - factory to you, so perhaps this is why there are sometimes miscommunications/ delays in shipping. 4. Another friend who works with computers still recommends Dell as a good choice.

About my laptop :) It is fast, reliable and arrived within 3 weeks (I am not in a city). It is a "refurbished model" from the factory outlet and I can see nothing wrong with it, it looks brand new (general advice is that usually if you are going to have a problem with a laptop it occurs in the first year). It didn't come with lots of "bloatwear" like a lot of computers do. It is small and slim. I do think I feel a little "emf" from the keyboard (if you are sensitive to these things which I am, much like I do from my iphone), but I have ordered a docking station so that I can use my existing mouse (and keyboard when required for much use). I have upgraded from my now slow, 9 year old Toshiba laptop (I like to keep my environmental impact low) so I am guessing it is related to this computer being such a powerful laptop too (3 thunderbolt ports only). I purchased the maximum extra level of care, for piece of mind, though I hope I will never have to use it.

I can't recommend highly enough if you want a powerful computer and you dont want Apple.

Initially got a defective laptop. Replacement is excellent – I got hooked into buying this laptop (with 512G of SSD) after seeing it being listed as one of the best on almost every technical review site. windows and is stuck on the DELL logo screen with a flashing LED sequence that indicates a system board/memory issue.

Got in touch with tech support. They have been prompt and helpful but can't nail down an ETA after 2 days to source a replacement board and provide onsite repair.

I'm obviously not happy with the repair route and want a brand new replacement (hoping I got a lemon and there is no systemic issue with the XPS13).

Will have to see how this pans out. At this stage, I'm extremely disappointed in the purchase and speed of issue resolution.

Updating review.. I got a replacement, which took in the end approx 8 weeks from the time the original laptop was purchased online. I've had it for a year now without any issues. The XPS 13 is an excellent responsive laptop with a great screen

I'm confident with DELL XPS and planning to buy another one now. My experience helps others to decide on buying XPS.

Pros: 1. High spec 2. Better screen resolution 3. Not bad customer service 4. Performance is great, and never had any issues 5. Lightweight and easy to carry on.

Cons: 1. Within a year, the battery performance was not great, so Dell replaced the battery. Unfortunately, after 3 years of battery gone again, I ordered a battery from Dell for $200 and fixed myself.

Overall, I'm happy with the laptop and don't expect all the laptops are 100% perfect.

Never ever Dell – After spending $ 3000 plus, you still don;t get a good touch screen sensitivity/smooth trackpad or good battery life, then what is the point in buying Dell products. the product I had in 2010 was better (XPS 13 inch). It does not stand close to Lenovo Yoga with similar configuration. In my opinion, Lenovo laptop is better than Dell. I regret buying this product. Show details

Excellent stand-alone laptop, not so good connected to an external monitor – It was a capable computer. It was fast and responsive. Importantly, the keyboard and trackpad both felt above average. attached to a large high-resolution Dell monitor, and used with wireless keyboard and mouse. This is where the problems began.

Although the built-in screen was high resolution, the maximum output to an external screen is 1920x1080, which looked terrible on my high resolution Dell monitor.

Secondly, there are no USB2 or USB3 ports. The only ports are two Thunderbolt ports. When I considered the purchase, I thought that I could live with two Thunderbolt ports with a USB hub permanently dangling off the side. But one of the ports is used for power, leaving only one available Thunderbolt port.

There were too many compromises. With the combination of low-resolution output to an external screen and the lack of connectivity, I returned the laptop to Dell under their 15 day change-your-mind returns policy which was available to me because I purchased the laptop directly from Dell online.

XPS13 2 in 1 a real disappointment and whole keyboard needs replacing after only 18 months! – I have bought 2 previous Dell XPS13s and was very happy with them. 18 months ago I bought another but this time I decided to try the new 2 in 1. Dell's after sales support is non-existent – Used to love Dell - their customer service was exceptional back in the 00's. Now they have the worst customer service! Absolute Disappointment – Im never usually one to write reviews, but this laptop has me so frustrated and disappointed I felt the need to warn others! and its light as a feather. I think those are the only positives I can draw now. I hope for the sake of others mine is just a lemon.

Within 2 mths it started to freeze, screen would black out and id have to hard reset the laptop. Then it started to get what I call "white noise" screen, where it looked like the old fashion "snow" on TV channel screens when you don't get signal. Words would blurr and freeze, all only rectified by a hard reset and occasional loss of work. Dell sent a tech and all he did was replace motherboard. That didn't fix it, it continued, this time the battery started overheating and when in conference calls, clients could here the whirring of the fan, asking me "do you live near an airport?" ( I was on a farm at that time and no outside noise impacting).

The sound, when watching a video will often cut out and sound tinny, then it will come back into focus. despite constantly updating the drivers (which I seem to have driver updates every other day), am diligent when it comes to keeping a clean drive and updated systems, still nothing fixed the problem.

8 months in and I got the orange battery light, which meant (now my third tech, forgot to mention a tech came to replace the screen which also didn't fix the screen issues) who replaced the battery. That solved the orange light issue! #winning

It only has 2 thunderbolt ports (my fault for not checking )which intermittently work. One side often wont recognize the extended 4- USB port I have had to adopt (so i can use a mouse, keyboard etc) so i have to keep trying until it accepts it. I run diagnostics and doesn't appear to have any issues. I run diagnostics each time an issues comes up and it says laptop is updated and running fine...... When I try to use a Dell Monitor with a Dell docking station, after about 2 minutes the computer freezes, the monitor goes black (laptop screen freezes), then laptop freezes (and the monitor bounces in an out of signal) despite changing monitor setting, power settings, screen settings) and I know this monitor works as it works on another laptop.

Countless hours online with online support trying every trick in the book or getting techs to come try replacing parts and nothing seems to have solved these issues. I have premium cover, yet unless I report these all within a 30 day window (4 times) I apparently will not get a refund or replacement laptop.

Really truly disappointed, as I think it could be an amazing laptop (when it works, it actually works well and is fast).

Needless to say, I will not be buying Dell again. I have given up complaining, to the support teams and sick of having yet more techs coming to replace bits and pieces when really, a replacement laptop i think would have been the next step. If I got offered one now, I wouldn't take it as I dont wish to use Dell again, this is scarred me for sure! I run a small business and we all now will be using other brands.

Poor Quality, Poor Reliability & Terrible Uncompromising Customer Service – After purchasing the premium version of the Dell XPS 13 (9380) laptop in Feb-2019 directly from Dell whilst in the UK - with 12 months manufacturer’s warranty and Premium Support (which was supposedly transferable to Australia) - I was initially happy with what appeared to be a good device. suddenly, unexpectantly and without warning shutting itself down whilst in use, connected to and powered by the Dell TB16 Thunderbolt docking station at the time (all with suitable surge protection). The laptop will no longer start, is now unusable and Dell Australia refuse to compromise on the expired manufacturer’s warranty (also stating it does not have any international warranty) and refuse to repair/replace what is obviously a defective product that is not fit for purpose given the price paid and quality and longevity inferred by Dell and reasonably expected by consumers ($2,600 for 14 months use). Instead Dell Australia expect the consumer to pick up the cost to replace the faulty motherboard despite vain attempts to explain basic consumer laws to Dell (both available under UK and AU law) that are there to protect consumers over and above the basic manufacturer’s warranty. The product is obviously not of merchantable nor acceptable quality given the premium branding and high price paid and would be expected to last much longer without a major fault. Consulting with Dell UK from Australia was a totally different experience. They recognised the severity of the fault and irrespective of the recently expired 1 year manufacturer’s warranty and Premium Support contract, Dell UK offered to extend the warranty into a 2nd year free of charge and were happy to repair the laptop free of charge if I could get it back to them in the UK. Now being in Australia and given the current travel restrictions I have no plans to return to the UK. Postage with the appropriate level of insurance to the UK is expensive and with the current extended postal/repair/return timeframes this would leave me without a device for several months. So much for an international company providing international transferable support for international traveller’s. Dell Australia are unwilling to show any regard for basic consumer laws and quality expectations. Dell Australia have been completely unhelpful, totally uncompromising, shirk their basic responsibility and do not care much for customer service nor customer satisfaction. I’ve purchased two Dell monitors and numerous accessories over the years however I certainly would not consider purchasing a Dell branded product again in the future. Searching the internet there are numerous references to faulty Dell XPS 13 laptops of this model due to motherboard failures and other hardware issues - a device that appears to be a lemon with latent defects. As part of an international company, Dell Australia really needs to lift its game and do more for its customers - worldwide.

unbranded manufacturer. Third, the overall build quality is low. The laptop has scratches on the aluminium edges which felt sharp to touch. The power button with the fingerprint scanner was not aligned well. It was a bit twisted against the palmrest of the laptop. And the last, after few hours of work the laptop has crashed with BSOD screen. I've attempted to restart it several times. But every time after reboot the laptop became very hot and it has crashed again after couple seconds. I think it has happened due to receiving some Dell automatic software updates. I think that is not acceptable for the premium line Dell XPS flagship series products which cost over $2500AUD. I am so frustrated with Dell products now. Considering in fact that it was my second faulty Dell XPS laptop which I've purchased within a one month on Dell on-line store. The first one was XPS 9365 2-in-1 which had build quality issues as well. So the both laptops have been returned back to Dell. Something terribly wrong is happening with Dell manufacturing and quality control over past few years. Since I still have my 7 years old Dell XPS which works perfect and looks like a new. I have been a big fan of Dell but my trust in that brand is disappearing now.
