Run all night during winter - no impact on power bill! – was a bit worried when i ran this pretty much all night every night during winter in my child's bedroom - but electricity bill was only $100 more than the winter before and we had a nice toasty bedroom for my son! It's a nice portable unit - wamred up the room and the thermostat works well - you can set it to whatever temperature you want and it turns on and off to stay at that temperature. Also - it has a good timer on it (not that we used that much). A good buy!

Great 'Second Generation' design advance to basic column oil heater – I have seen the first review on this forum for this heater which I felt was unfair and misleading based purely on the inappropriate expectation from this heater by design and the users requirements. I find it perfect for a child's nursery as it is gentle and silent and needs only minimum settings to achieve an independently measured (Gro-Egg) room temperature of 19-20 degrees Celcius. I have also noted how little the actual room temperature varies (within 1 degree Celsius) despite the thermostat regularly clicking the unit off, adding to its efficiency. The size and weight which may be criticized by some, is actually a major reason for this efficiency as the heat mass even when not operating continues to keep the room cosy. And adversely to the other opinion, I am glad, and chose by design a heater without direct radiant heat to prevent hot/cold zones or scorching of anything in close proximity.

What seems a subtle design change with great aesthetics of closing in the archaic design fins, is actually a functional leap forward in function and efficiency to boot. Compared to our old unit, warm air gushes from the top as intended, despite having no mechanical force or appliance at work simply by harnessing the simple physics that ensure open fires do not fill rooms with smoke, but draw by thermal dynamics the heated air upwards. I applaud this design and am very happy with this heater.

In our larger living areas it also makes for a great silent and non invasive presence considering my sensitivity to dust due to allergy, and is a major preference over the ducted heating when there is no need to heat the whole home. Having said that it need higher settings which although effective, would no doubt be less energy efficient than other gas space heaters, or possibly more current inverter reverse cycle air conditioners.

If you are considering a room heater, and have sensitivity to dust or hate noise, this is perfect. However, if you are seeking the inviting atmosphere of a radiant or even glowing heather to snuggle around, then clearly this is not for you. Having said that, those romantic additives to your choice will undoubtedly come at the price of efficiency. Quiet operation, no noisy and problem prone fan, no air/dust movement, modern looks compared to open fin style, accurate air thermostat compared to more basic internal oil temperature thermostat, simple timer and various power settings, quick heat system, although rarely need this with only 15 minutes forethought Rear wheels although large to aid manoeuvrability seem a little flimsy for the 23.4Kg weight, short power cord considering 2400w/10Amp load on maximum is right on the safety trip limit of power boards and extensions/adapters.

Very disappointed – I spent over $300 on this heater thinking I was getting the best there is. It is no more effective than an old oil filled heater of my grandmother's with only 4 fins. Very, very disappointing. Heat only comes out the top, no heat can be felt on the sides unless you actually touch the heater. I live in a small unit and wanted it to heat the lounge room which is not big, no such luck. If I could return it I would. Looks as though it will work.... Does not heat well, heat only comes out the top, have had to resort to my old heater.

I am sad to hear about your review, however wish to add that I have purchased one and could not be happier. The inherent design is to specifically propel heated air primarily from the top as it creates a chimney effect and draws airflow through the fins spreading the heat much more effectively, not so much by radiant heat alone which is less effective. This is why their patented closed sides have added efficiency to the overall design, as without, it would be far more dependent on radiant heating alone which is not as effective. Not only that but it greatly reduces the danger of scorching of anything or anyone to come in close contact with the sides, perfect for a child room.

Therefore if you compare it to the pleasure of radiant heat from a bar or even fan heater, you would naturally be disappointed and having said that, it would be an unfair comparison. In fact it is down to the sales process of either your own research, or the salesperson to explain the differences and assist in selecting the product and effect you desire. I did my research, which allowed me to select this heater as the most effective heater for my babies nursery as an indirect and safe room heater without a noisy fan, but with great gentle air circulation which I can feel belting out the top as designed, and giving a gentle even warming to the whole room, without any hot/cold zones.

What motivates me to reply, is that I feel this review would lead people astray without qualification as to the design and intent of this heater, particularly as it is a big efficiency leap from the already popular open fin type column oil heater which again was designed for gentle room heating rather than direct instant pleasurable radiant heat that it seems you were seeking in the first place.

There are other brands that are following Delonghi's chimney design, and I am crediting the design more than the brand alone for this advance, and am certainly not promoting Delonghi alone, despite being very happy with it.
