FEIN Dustex 40

Sucks but lacks in its modular capacity – First off the function of this unit is great, it sucks like a Goo Girl and a single bag lasts quite a while without the suction power dropping off much. If you need a vaccum almost every day for use on site (either cleaning up or dust extraction) this is a very useful unit and i have no complaints about how it works because it runs great. Even tho its made by Gypsy's in Romania NOT GERMANY!!
They have no problem chucking on the premium German price!!!
BEWARE: All the new fein crap is Chinese garbage with the same price tag.
This unit SEVERELY lacks the modular capacity that the rest of my Fein tools have.
(One of my favourite parts of Fein tools are how the tool cases are made to stack which makes loading the car just that little bit easier)
This vaccum however is an absolute hot mess of hoses and cables.
The design for the hose to wrap around the unit is useless and there is not adequate allowance given to sufficiently wrap the vacuum hose around the unit without it constantly falling off. (whilst slowly driving you mad every time it does)
You also have to roll up the power chord by hand and hang it anywhere you can find on the unit with means it is always falling off or always in the way... seriously they had those retractable chords down pat in the 80's...
The location of the pipe fittings is actually quite a nice design it locks them in place and keeps them out of the way, except for the fact that they can fall out if manhandled, its not too bad.
Conclusion:
Good unit that works well and is reliable, like i said its modular capacity is garbage, but then again so is every other brand.. i just expected better than this basic tier from Fein.
NOTE: if you live in AUS prepare to pay through the nose for replacement parts / bags / lost attachments ect, no joke your looking at min $100 AUD to replace the most basic crap. You end up just buying 2nd hand fein vacuums and parting them out cos there is NO ONE that sells fein in AUS and the ones that do are a rip off!
- Date Purchased:
Not what I expected – It is certainly a good extractor, and has performed well. Two weeks after purchase it broke down, and was sent back for a new motor. In the three years since it has been subjected to light use. Yesterday though, it burned out rather dramatically. My last extractor cost a third of the price and lasted over ten years.
So far it is great – Purchased two days ago. Used yesterday sucking up villaboard dust and broken ceramic tiles. The vacuum is powerful and did the job with ease. The variable power is a good option as full power was too strong for dusting off vertical blinds. Also used it attached to a circular saw cutting villaboard, here the auto function was fantastic and I had very little dust that did not get sucked up.
For the power of the motor it is quite quiet which I was happy about. Depending on which attachment you have on the end of the hose the suction whistle that you sometimes get is louder than the motor.
Two negatives. Although you can use it without a paper bag it did not come with one. I was lucky that I purchased some bags. Also it has a great selection of accessories but is missing a brush attachment. I have attached one from another vacume and it works well so I will make do, but it would be good if it was included in the original purchase. Powerful yet quiet
