Clutch slave cylinder – City driving for a Ford Ranger? Recommended by the Ford Dealership. It’s a 4x4 6 speed manual Built Ford Tough? Don’t think so- I bought my 2015 Ranger brand new thinking it’s a Diesel engine and will last a life time. Boy was I wrong. It now has 70,000km and the clutch peddle has fallen to the floor. Is it normal for the clutch slave… Read more
cylinder to break this early in a Diesel engine? $1500 to replace-
I’ve taken my Ranger off road a few times and cleaned it with a high pressure hose every time. Cleaned and Removed all the mud from the under body every time.
Now there’s mud in the bell assembly and the fly wheel needs to be replaced. Is this normal for a Diesel engine that’s supposed to be a closed unit to get dirt in the bell assembly and cause damage to the hardened steel fly wheel? $2500 to replace-
I tow nothing close to 3.5t and the Ranger struggles. I can feel the engine struggle when towing empty trailers.
has anyone else had the same issue happen to their Ranger?

Still key will not come out I tried the little button near the gear level. Still key will not come out. I jiggled and wiggled the key while brake peddle was push still no joy. What ya think? Great Tourer, Daily and offroad capabilities – Had my ranger for a long time. I use it as a daily, tourer and do some serious 4wding. Never let me down. Only major item i've had to replace is the crank sensor. Though i do get it serviced regularly every 10,000km Show details

Blown Engine – Purchased a 2.2lt manual Ford Ranger new. Just under 200 000Km later with all highway driving, approximately 120km per day and the engine blew. Faulty injector which put a hole in the piston with no warning signs. Contacted Ford who refused to investigate because the car was not serviced at Ford, although all services were completed on time/distance. Can not believe a $43000 vehicle only lasted 6 years, Ford Australia never again! Show details

Engine oil change every 7500 km, All liquids changed every 50,000km. Filters as per Ranger Service Schedule Instrument cluster replaced at 150,000km - LED background light failed. All Intercooler pipes replaced when cold side pipe split about 190,000km
Used as "everyday" driver & towing extended horse float.
Pro's Great "tug" - plenty of reserve power, tows easily at legal speed limits. Comfortable & reasonably quiet (with windows closed) for long trips. Seat & steering wheel adjustments very good. Good aircon & heating. For a ute, it handles well/holds the road.
Cons Paint very poor quality Parts very expensive - Instrument cluster replacement $1,000.00 (including computer work). Old tech would have cost me $5.0 & 15 minutes of my time to replace globes. Power steering has little feel/feedback. Gear lever could have been shorter. Rear windows must be used regularly to prevent sticking closed. Visibility partially obstructed by front right roof pillar - easy to "lose" a small car/motorbike.
207,500km Follow Up- Car running well but decided to preemptively replace all 5 injectors. In process of injector replacement, discovered two preheat "Glow Plugs" defective. Big job to replace however good opportunity to remove carbon build up in EGR system. I am surprised at how much better the car now runs - very smooth and extra power. Hoping for slightly improved fuel economy
Good all round vehicle – I just bought a 2013 Ranger with 132000km on it. Its nice to drive on the tarmac, which is important as thats where it will spend most of its time. A little embarrassing to admit but after owning for nearly 2 months, l have not taken it off road yet. The finish appears strong and durable and all the systems are still working well. Its a bit… Read more
smaller in the cabin that l would like, which is odd for such a large vehicle but in the front, its very comfortable. Heres my advice if looking at buying a used one. Service history is important. Having said that, l am sceptical that all the oils were changed at the scheduled intervals in my case. The auto transmission is sealed and has a service interval of 240,000km! Mad! Like all 4x4, they tend to wear their age. Look for dust in nooks a crannies for signs of lots of off road use. A great indicator for how its been driven is the L/km computer. If its under 9L/100, its probably been driven sympathetically. If its over 10, look at it a bit closer. My personal experience with the ranger has been good and l have not seen any alarm bells.
Great comfortable ute – I use my ranger every day ,it’s done 266000 kms and still strong ,secret is do oil good oil and service every 5000 kms ,only fault is computer loads up many questionably faults !but clear most if not reappear and off u go . Show details
Blown engine at 130,000km – My car every so often would go into limp mode if under load and sitting around 2000revs ie going up a hill. Would turn the car off and back on and it would be fine again. Ford Ranger 2014 3.2l 6speed – I have the same problem goes into lip mode , no codes or dash lights. Dealer has no idea. I had another issue and disconnected my battery overnight. car has this limp safe mode issues. We don't know how to fix it and we don't know where to bring the car anymore. The car can't be driven because it won't reach 80Kph and the ESP gets in everytime we turn the car on. We've got everything done on the car, from oil and filter and services. Took the car many times to get it check , but nope... No one know how to deal with it. I've contacted Ford Australia and the only answer I've got was ''I'm sorry this has happened to you, please bring the car to your nearest Ford dealer ''. How am I supposed to bring the car to a Ford dealer when the car has been to all of them and no one have found the issue?

2014 Ranger Auto - new transmission needed at 60,000 km – Bought a 2014 4x4 Ranger 3.2 L auto, second hand from a reliable source, with 50,000 km on the clock, in April 2019. result of poor design". I thought I did my homework on this vehicle, but I didn't find anything about the torque converter at the time. If I had, I would have not bought the vehicle. I opted to have an upgrade on the re-build - $8,500. Please be aware of this issue if you are considering a Ford Ranger.

offroad. I have had a case open with ford for 3 months (their customer service is a joke) and it looks like Ford will not come to the party for any out of warranty reimbursement (they offered 5 years, 100000 km back then). My research indicates that this is becoming a HUGE problem for the Ranger as more and more transmissions start failing as vehicles get just over that 100000 km range. If you call any transmission shop they will tell you to avoid the auto ranger and if you do want it, get a full upgrade/overhaul straight away (bigger and better everything). Noting Fords massive failure at making any decent auto transmission I will not be buying an auto Ford again. The Manual Ranger, from my experience is much better (probably why they used to 2016/17 used to offer 200000 km warranty on manual, and 100000 km on auto..... funny that). I have not heard if they have fixed it for the PX2 and PX3. I doubt it. I have had several other vehicle problems, notably factory headset, EGR blockage and brake booster failures (no brakes, at all, on road....). Besides everything above the Ranger has a good engine, chassis and suspension. Just DON'T BUY AN AUTO.
Buy Toyota – I bought a new Ranger in January 2013 from Ford Kalgoorlie, all went well until its first big trip on Gibb River Road in mid 2014. Wheel nuts sheared off and required replacements, instead of obliging me, Ford in Broome told me I needed a whole new rear axle and wheel assembly for the ball park figure of $5000. A trip to Supercheap auto fixed the… Read more
issue with a new set of studs and nuts for $40.00 yes, forty dollars. The next issue was at 40,000km when the gearbox bearings gave up in 2016. The warranty was two months expired however the gearbox isn’t due to be serviced until 200,000km. Ford again refused to do anything and was replaced at a cost of $4,800.00 by a gearbox specialist. Subsequently, in January 2018, the gear shift assembly broke or wore out at 48000km and despite being a simple part to replace, Ford only sold the genuine part as part of the whole gear shift assembly. As an aside, the gear assembly came loose last week whilst driving from Perth to Queensland, I managed to limp into Macquarie Toyota in Warren NSW where the service manager, Danny Hunt, helped fix the issue in 10 minutes at no charge. So a simple gesture like this will ensure that I will return to Toyota reliability in the future.
I will never buy another Ford anything as their service is so poor and at every turn have tried to screw every last cent from over inflated estimates to simple solutions.
I have spent 20 odd thousand dollars on 4wd and touring upgrades that will now be spent on Toyota. Not that this one review will matter, but I hope anyone considering a new Ford will look elsewhere.
poor reception – ford px xlt ute - why do ford sell these ford rangers knowing there are problems and when speaking to head service manager and head mechanic , I'm treated like the idiot cause the vehicle they sold us is a lemon and they refuse to change the items everyone has stated and because you not aloud in mechanic work area to see them change a part , they… Read more
wash it say it is new and send you on way with old part .. maybe fair trading to look into this matter and then something may get done as it is reoccurring far to often and we supposed to be holiday traveling, the matter is in hand with ford head office and ford dealer is not responding to phone calls or fixing problem as the same problem has 23 different fault codes at the moment , so just put 4 new speed sensors and a module in it and we go from there, the same dealer has people in there same problem and everyone sent home worry bout it later .. poor effort ford Australia help your customers or loose your customers - simple
2012 2.2L Ford Ranger PX - Transmission problems – Own a 2012 ford ranger PX 2.2L, started having problems with my gear box so booked it into Ford dealership. finds its place .....4 days later driving along at 100kms and transmission shifts down to first gear, wheels lock up, cars revs out and engine and traction control lights comes on. FORD PX RANGER R.I.P. @ 74,511klms – My Ford Capped Price Servicing Ford PX Ranger was bought new, to be my forever luxury vehicle, but, at a 39,600klm under warranty service at a Townsville Ford Dealership, it had issues with the manual clutch, that were ignored. only 74,511klms on the clock. The Owners Manual 228page booklet supplied on purchase of a new Ford, has nothing but print and illustrations of the electronic plastic gadgets in the truck. There is not 'ONE' (1) page illustrating the motor or how to fix it. Not one! There isn't even any mechanical plan to show how to get to the mechanical parts within the motor for repair. Not one page helps the Truck owner to do a home repair to save money. Ford's Logo is "Ford goes further". I think this Ford automobile company needs a 'reality check.'

FORD RANGER XLT 2012 MODEL LOSES POWER WHEN TOWING – Has anybody had a problem where their Ranger loses power and goes into Limp Mode whilst towing, especially if the outside temperature is high. Mine is doing this now and I am on "An around Australia" loop up at Karratha. I have had it to Ford at Karratha; no fault codes come up, nor do any dash lights show up when it goes into Limp Mode Show details
COG light – Daily commute as well as tow vehicle during holidays. During towing the amber COG light on dash came on on several occasions. Car is serviced regularly. (anywhere between 10k and 15k). Great dual -cab – We sold our Hilux (petrol) and bought a 2012 Ranger 3.2TDi - the best move we ever made in terms of vehicles. The Ranger out-performs the Hilux in every department. Blown engine 3.2lt 130000km – Worst car I ever bought, had 130000km on it then all of a sudden black smoke and a blown motor. I'm on the ranger club Facebook and see this as a regular occurrence. If you're still thinking about getting one read all reviews on different sites before spending the $$$. I'm up for over $8000 and that is a cheap fix. Show details
Steering wheel disintegrating – No action from Ford after asking them to review the steering wheel that is peeling. I have never had a car with a steering wheel that disintergrates. It is definately not fit for purpose and is clearly a manufacturing fault. This should have been a product recall to rectify the problem Show details
Best 4×4 have driven – i have had my ranger for three years now. i had a 2005 dual cab hilux 2lt turbo. it was so under powered with a full tank of diesel i could only get 350ks. my ranger is comfortable. it has great touque. handles the road great. it handles best with good quality all weather all torain tyres. its great on fuel economy. its quick of the mark. i found… Read more
that if you put a snorkle on it. you get even more power and better power. by doing this i found that i went from nine litres per hundred kilometers to between 7.5 litrs and 9 ltrs per hundred ks. and the engine runs cooler especially when towing a caravan. plenty of room. love the dual control climate as my partner likes it a bit warmer and i like it colded. saves on arguments. i feel like when i driven 500 kilometers. that seems like ive driven 100 kilometers. and still feel refreshed. even the dog luvs it lol. the prob i have i dont get to drive it enough. as im a truck driver. but when i do drive my ranger it still feels like i am driving a new car every time. i wont be getting rid of it anytime soon. i loved the fact that the ranger no matter what model it comes with the tow pack and side steps as standed. not like the toyota models where you have to pay extra. especiall when you are pay for a very exspensive model. how do i know was looking at getting the Sahara land cruiser at a 130 thousand dollars. you had to pay extra for a tow pack and side steps. the ford ranger was the only 4 wheel drive that came with these features standard.
Great reliable car – Very good car with all the power and tech that a 4wd utility vehicle should have. The fuel is also very efficient and gets you great millage per tank. The car handles well and is great for 4wdriving out in the forests and on tough terrain. The car is also reasonably priced. Show details
Worst thing I've ever brought – 2 years ago I brought a 2012 xl hi-rider 2.2 4x2, I have had problems ever since, the first 6 months was just warming lights, then 4 months later my car (auto) stalled in the middle of an intersection with a semi truck coming my way and nearly killed me. the injectiors were stuffed and it was going to be $8000 to replace. 6 months after that it then started with the ABS warming lights again then engine lights followed, the 2nd gear kept slipping and had to replace the transmission, leaving me with no car and more money spent. It's been 6 months since the gearbox has been replaced and it's playing up again. And my turbo is starting to play up sucking in to much air and blowing so much smoke. Ford will not do anything to help. I'm a 20 year old female and I've been rorted big time. I've spent so much money fixing this car I will NEVER buy a ford again.
Engine blown at 38,000km – We were very happy with our Ranger until the engine blew up at 38,000km. Suddenly blows white smoke, engine bay covered in oil and running on 4 cylinders. the vehicle prior to us picking it up and Ford take warranty from that date. The car sat at the dealership for a week whilst Ford made every excuse to deny warranty, even ordering the dealership to check for and report on any modifications made to the vehicle in order to avoid a claim. Ford customer service are useless. So I decide to get the vehicle towed home - but no, the dealer wants $396 to release the vehicle, for work I never authorised as they said Ford had initially agreed to a good will claim. So 1 week later, I have no idea what went wrong, Ford don't care and the dealer extorted $396 from me. Stay away from Rangers, it seems Ford know they have a problem with the engines and will use any excuse to avoid warranty.
