Fuji Xerox DocuPrint CP205 Series

Does the job but needs knowledge to setup – Prints fine as l bought it second hand, did bit of research and clean the sensor to get it work, reported CTD sensor message earlier. Will try more out to see how long it last to run.
More economical to run than HP or Brother but paper jam can be annoying – I bought Fuji Xerox because in terms of cost per page (colour) it is cheaper than HP and Brother and the quality of print if quite good. However after a while, I find the printer becomes temperamental, if you buy the wrong paper, jams frequently, annoying, not to mention waste of paper, ink and time. Hopefully if they put out a new model, they will solve the paper jam problems. Show details
Update on Pretty but pretty useless reviews – Had this printer now for over four years and apart from the initial frustration at setting up the wireless connection and the one hiccup where the wireless refused to reconnect it hasn't missed a beat in all that time. Toner cartridge replacements I've sourced from Printzone and they've worked fine so all in all I'm quite happy with it. Would I buy another Fuji printer? Probably. Show details · 1
INITIAL SETUP CONFUSING, NOW SEAMLESS OPERATION FOR 3 YEARS – When first setup, confusing, DEFINITE ORDER. USB, Cable ethernet, and then wireless. Once worked out, ran fine. Installed driver on second computer, suddenly, consistant paper jams. Fiddled and mucked around for about a week off and on, even returned the printer and got a replacement, but found same issues as soon as i installed the driver on… Read more
second computer, (saw a pattern). NOW, runs seamlessly with all 6 computers on network. this has been for a little over 3 years. Very occasional paper jam,(2 or 3 a year). Lots of tricks to that initial setup. Definitely give it a fixed ip address, and first computer setup is fiddly, but subsequent computers are easy, as long as you don't go through full setup procedure as you do with first computer on network, only load print driver. Seems to be a little bit of a translation issue with the setup documentation, but once you get it working, you understand what they are trying to say. Quality is great, and with 3 kids and school curriculum all computer based, costs have dropped phenominally with this printer. Excellent photo prints on glossy laser paper too. I know if I have to setup again, I will have to remember all the little tricks. Better document them properly next time, and post my version of setup.
Infuriating rubbish - don't buy – Connectivity of this printer is a complete joke. Wireless is incredibly difficult to setup, and takes much google searching to figure out why it just wont work. Very long lag time when printer started to wireless connection initialising. Issues with using USB cable and wireless. When the wireless wont initialise (which is often) the USB cable… Read more
cannot just be connected and printing be enabled. This cannot be counted on. Several times the same computer that has successfully (albeit after fights) printed via either USB or wireless will not even recognise the printer as a printer. Drivers have to be uninstalled and reinstalled AGAIN. Has happened on more than 1 Windows 7 computer.
If you can get it to work, the print quality is ok. Paper will pickup crooked if alignment guides are not very carefully adjusted as they are not at all robust.
Footprint is actually larger than need be as the paper intake is a fold out piece of plastic, so actually makes it not very economical on space at all. Also catches dust if not closed after every use.
The best printer I have ever bought, beats all others so far and I have tried most brands of ordinar – As above the ease of usage and printing. This is the second laser printer I have used. I bought it at Aldi stores for under a $100.00.as soon as I linked it to my computer it installed itself. I have not bought new toner as yet so do not know the pricing of same. I have saw the toner on EBay for reasonable prices To my amazement the toner is in separate wells like ordinary ink printers. One for each color and black.
Unreliable – First the positives - Excellent print quality. Even photos look decent on good paper. Reasonably fast. Cheap to purchase. Compact size. However, these positives are easy to forget when the wireless is so temperamental and needlessly finicky to set up. Constant paper jams from new even with quality paper. Ongoing error messages after jams are… Read more
cleared. Toner does not seem to last as long as previous laser printers. Stops jobs randomly in the middle of a job, realigns then starts printing again with the page realigned so the content bleeds off the edge.
This is the FW Model....Problem with 160GSM – Fantastic printer however it wont accept gloss 160gsm. Or is 160 gloss actually thicker than 160 because of the gloss? It says in the specs that it should. Any ideas?
Great photo printer – I bought mine two years ago and use it mainly for photo printing. I use it with Mondi 160gsm paper which is 'semi gloss' and matches the sheen of the toner, so photos look fantastic. Main tray has regular 80gsm paper, which works great too. This printer beats any inkjet I've ever owned or used hands down. No wasted 'liquid gold [ink] on… Read more
'housekeeping'.
Tip for the cost-concious: The chips built in to the toner cartridges report empty when there's still up to 30% toner left. I sourced replacement chips from Hong Kong for a few dollars each and now run my toners until 'dry'.
My printer is running from a wired network and prints without any hassles from several PCs, both desktops and laptops. Yes, I set the IP address manually.
For anyone with wireless networking issues, there's lots of good advice on Whirlpool. Prints first time, every time. No paper wastage. Toners report empty when 30% still available.
No complaints – I've had one of these for a couple of years now, only low level home usage, and I'm pretty happy with it. It's easy to use (I have a Mac and that was no problem) quiet, print quality is fine and OK speed. I don't think I'm getting the stated page yields for the black toner, but the colour seem to be doing better than stated. Small, networkable, easy to use, works well.
Pretty but pretty useless 2 – Ok. FINALLY figured out how to set up the wireless so as more than one computer can use it. Basically when you set the wireless up using the accompanying CD it automatically assumes you want to use DHCP to assign an IP address which means everytime the modem is turned off it forgets the printer and cannot find it again. The solution is to assign a… Read more
static IP address to the printer and install the printer to that specific IP address on your PC's and laptops after downloading and expanding the driver from the Fuji site. XP and Vista install it easily however on Win8 you need to be more aware of where the driver file expands to because the add printer wizard cannot find it by itself.
Regardless of solving this issue I still think it's very poor of Fuji to make it so user-unfriendly when installing it to multiple PC's and I won't be buying another of their printers anytime in the future.
Stupid site wouldn't let me submit another review using previous email address. Maybe they are friends with Fuji hey :( Nice quality prints More aggravation than it's worth. Exposed paper tray give a bigger footprint that it really ought to have.
Most frustrating printer ever made – This is possibly the worst printer I have ever owned. I have returned it three times and I am still yet to receive one that works correctly. If you want to print 1 single page it works just fine, anything with 2 or more pages simply doesnt work. I have had more paper jams on these printers than I have ever had in my life. It is practically useless… Read more
for multipage documents as it simply wont print them. Once you remove the paper jam the printer then reprints the page you already have and then jams again. The only way I have found to get around this problem is to print every page as single documents, although this system isnt foolproof either. I would stay well away from it. Virtually nothing. The wireless is a nice option and appears to work generally. Will not print multipage documents without paper jams. Virtually unusable for printing more than one page.
Great print quality for such a small price – Just bought this printer from Officeworkes. Installation of WiFi network was fast and easy using, step-by-step wizard from the CD provided (need to connect the printer to your computer through USB). Color printing quality is much better then you would expect from this price range. Text printing is sharp and clear. The only negative side is a… Read more · 1
cost of color page printed, which is over 21 cents per page. Therefore I wouldn't recommend this printer for office use.
But if you are going to use it at home and print just a several hundreds pages per year (like I do), this printer become a best selection. Supplied cartridges will last for about 1400 pages. Printing quality Color page print cost

Wireless is hopeless – Just got this printer and have spent about an hour trying to get wireless to work. Seems very complicated and still no success so I can't report on anything else about the printer yet. I have no idea why it is so difficult... laptops these days just search for available networks and you select one and connect. This seems to have a variety of ways… Read more
to do it and endless options.
Later: Success! Had to uninstall everything and start again. The trick is to do it through USB connection using the wizard. Definitely wouldn't recommend trying to set it up through ethernet.
Later again: Nope, wireless dropped out after a few days. Then it became completely invisible on the network and so completely unresponsive. Impossible to get it recognised through either wireless or wired ethernet. Had to uninstall everything and reinstall yet again, starting with USB connection. I've now given up on wireless and am using it with the ethernet cable. Hopefully this will be more stable. The setup software is very confusing and clunky.
Seems like an OK printer otherwise. Print quality looks good. It's a solid, heavy machine so maybe that means a decent build quality. I don't like the way that the A4 paper feed requires the bottom door to be open all the time. Would prefer a definite tray that takes a whole ream of paper and closes. This way it means that dust will settle on the paper and get into the machine eventually.
If you definitely want a wireless printer do not buy this one!!
Would prefer a paper tray that closed off, wireless hopeless
I Love This Printer – I bought this printer to finally replace a 7yr old entry level Konica Minolta (2300W) colour Laser printer which started to smudge printouts and chewed up paper more often. I was living with these problems for about a year until I got sick of it. I can't complain really, it served me well for 6 yrs. I got an estimate for service/repairs and it… Read more
worked out I could buy a new wireless printer for the same cost.
This CP205W cost about 1/3 of the price ($198 versus $570) and is a step up in print quality, smaller size, faster printing, much quieter and it has wireless, whereas the Konica was only USB.
The wireless printing works great from 3 rooms away on a laptop and a desktop PC using Windows 7 (laptop is 32bit and desktop pc is 64bit).
I think print speed on wireless is quite fast, even for A4 photos, and even faster than my old Konica was on USB.
Photographs on full size A4 are very acceptable. I have no problem printing photos on Xerox Colortech Supergloss 210 gm paper. Print quality, small size, quiet, wireless, low price None so far (will update if any turn up)
Great cheap printer – I purchased this printer to replace a colour laser multi-function that I had previously replaced the expensive drum on and then died after a technician looked at it and said all the internals had worn out (ie. scratches on rolls etc. So went looking for a replacement and found this printer which uses different LED technology and from looking at… Read more
its details it seems like there was a lot less to go wrong.
I have had it now for a few months and love it. The quality is way better than the previous colour laser and it is quite fast and also a lot quieter than the previous laser. Even photos print at a quite reasonable quality (not up to photolab, but good enough to print and give a copy to someone). Quality of prints, speed, ease of setup and quietness. Can only print up to 190GSM (but that seems to be standard for most lasers)
Great printer, small footprint, quiet – Installing this printer was dead easy via USB connection. It was up and running in no time! Looks like toner cartridges are cheaper than most others and there are fewer moving internal parts for anything to go wrong - the beauty of LED as opposed to laser. Whilst generally the setup was simple, setting it up for wireless printing from my laptop… Read more · 3
continues to be a nightmare! inexpensive, cheap to run, quiet. Almost impossible to setup for wireless printing - still haven't worked it out!
Amazingly fast and exceptional quality – My Samsung colour laser printer needed a new drum and so I was off to buy one. Wow - The drum cost over $300, while the actual Samsung printer only cost around $200 when I bought it. Unfortunatley I wasn't able to buy another Samsung, as they are no longer made in that model. Looking at the other laser printers available, I stumbled upon the… Read more · 2
Fuji Xerox machine. On comparing it with the other laser printers it had a higher resolution and seemed to have an equal or higher print speed. Thinking it was a colour laser, I bought it and set it up in my office. I was surprised to see that it wasn't a laser printer at all, but it was an LED printer. LED printers use LEDs instead of a laser to put the toner on the page. No worries, I was happy to try it out - and I'm glad I did.
This printer is great. 3-4 times the speed of my Samsung colour laser printer (which had to feed the paper through the priner 4 times to print colour page). It has a very small footprint, it's quiet and sooooo fast. Full colour pages pop out of it within 10 secs of hitting print ... and once they are going there is no stopping them. 3-4 seconds a page, and it's continuous. No stops. No waiting ... it's like the speed of me printing draft mode on my little HP Officejet.
And the quality? It's great! Beats the pants off any inkjet or colour laser I have ever seen. Not quite photo quality, but quality good enough for high end presentations.
Best of all, it has no drum, and it uses the cheapest refills (compared to other colour lasers) that I could see when I bought it.
Comes with USB or Network connections, and is wireless ready.
It's good. Buy one. Much higher resolution then a laser printer and much much faster too! Nothing to speak of.
