Good product, until limited time – This digital control steamer was doing a good job with nice steamed vegetables, but all of a sudden saw the display got dim and I couldn't start the steamer thereafter. I suspected there should be a battery which must have failed, so I tried to call the customer support to confirm it before trying to change battery. When I called the customer… Read more

support, they said nothing can be done if outside warranty period and advised to buy a new one. So it looks like this product is designed to do a great job for only limited time and require us to renew the product after a while.

dodgy – We were given this for a christmas present. At first was great, both loved the steam veges. Also loved doing rice with it.Was good for about two months then started leaking ,lights flickering then totally stopped working but red light stayed on even when unplugged.Would really like to get another steamer but don't think I would get a George foreman.

Bad – Digits started to flicker just over 12 months and it did not work in 15th month. Very bad product considering life. Don't recommend to anyone who is looking for this range of product. Build quality is also not good. Very lower profile plastics. Started to flake steamer baskets, drip tray, lid.

wore out 2 in 12 months - looking for a more reliable brand – we got a digital version as a christmas pressie last year. the digital timer started to go after just a couple of months, and then something happened so that even when the machine was unplugged, there were lights displaying. wasnt game to use it after that, so took it back to good guys, who were happy to replace it under warranty, but by that… Read more

time they only had a dial model. Since we had enjoyed the steamed vegies, we bought that. after about 5 months, it started leaking underneath - no visible cracks, but the bench was often wet directly underneath - so not dripping down sides. at this point we decided it was possibly a bit dangerous, so ditched it. BUT since everyone liked their vegies steamed, we are looking for a new one. some of the others I have seen are quite small, unfortunately, but we 'll keep looking.

OK while it lasts – Whilst the design is good, what with the stacked containers, I had mine for about two years and the programming functions were the first to go and then the buttons were no longer responsive. Don't waste your money. I would not buy another of these after having read some other reviewers who suffered the same problems it seems.

Display and function buttons are problematic – I have had 3 of these in under 2 years. On every one the display started to fail and the the buttons stopped functioning. The shortest time it took was within 2 months while the third one lasted 10 months before failing. "Good guys" won't honor warranty as the purchase was just over 12 months ago despite having to replace it after 2 months. … Read more

Contacted the distributor and they want to replace my digital one with the old dial timer version.

I suppose for the price I got my use out of it. But if you want a product that lasts look at paying a bit more for something else.

Ok steamer but poor quality – Bought one and the LCD panel was faulty before I even used it, took it back and swapped it and after 2 uses the LCD panel started playing up again. Did a decent job steaming vegetables and cooking rice however certainly not good quality. Ended up swapping it for a Tefal one and haven't looked back.

Excellent if digital control would work!! – Brilliant concept but Im onto my 3rd now as the digital display only lasts 3 months. Im very diligent with water/cleaning etc, it just isn't well made digitally. Very frustrating as the product is great - when it works :(

3rd time lucky – My first 2 steamers had to go back to the store as the digital screen wasn't working - the numbers weren't being displayed properly so we couldn't see how long to set the steamer for, or how long it had left. They both stopped working within a few months. I've just swapped it for another one - all looks the same apart from a dial timer rather than electric, fingers crossed!! Other than the screen issue it seems to work well.

Second one broken! Disappointing! – This is the second one I have purchased. The first stopped working after about 6 months- no display, no buttons working or anything. I bought another one as I saw them on special, and it has also stopped working after about 4 months. First the display numbers started going funny (parts of the digits began disappearing) then it just stopped working. It was great while it worked but didn't work for long.

Great Value – My daughter bought one and having used it at her house I decided it would be a good to get one for us too. It's a big family sized steamer. You can use all or one basket depending on the size of your family or guests at the time. Quick to cook and oh so easy to clean. In-expensive. Easy to clean. Storing it when not in use.

Some Good ideas needing more thinking and re-arrangement – We started with a TEFAL VITA CUISINE and all went well for a full year but only days out of warranty it started to play up steaming continually non-stop, water evaporating quickly and even though we topped up it kept displaying water level sign and beeping and would not proceed even after turning it completely off main plug and re-starting. … Read more

Next few days worked for 10 minutes then repeating as above

so we replaced with a GEORGE FOREMAN believing they were on a par

the second much better priced... then there were discovery surprises...

(See TEFAL VITA CUISINE Review Submitted)

GENERAL COMMENTS

Price:

One third of TEFAL but brings to mind ‘you get what you pay for’

Watch and Control:

Frequent watching needed for water and timer for additions

Water Top Up Placement:

External, Easy to Fill on either side of steamer good idea but...

(see CONS Section Below)

Durability:

Just Bought –cannot comment on this yet.

All Reputed to last around a year...

PROS

Basket Shape Oval – Happy with it

Baskets - Tier Base Trays:

One Piece Solid Baskets and Bases, All Bases Perforated

CONS

Some Good ideas needing more thinking and re-arrangement

Water Level window:

Level Window – No Beep – must Watch Frequently.

Steaming:

Continuous Steaming – water evaporates quickly

Combination of Continuous steaming mode and open external

Top up Receptacles cause water Top Ups unavoidable

even when using only one Tier.

Manual does not indicate warning beep or safety cut off

and clearly states must be watched ‘continually’

so i have not allowed water level below 1/3 point in case it burns out

Time increments:

Five Minute +- Increments mean either overcooked

or undercooked ingredients or a mixture of Both or a lot of calculating

not to mention nutrients

Clock/Timer:

Digital Display Pro in comparison to dial up knob... but

Small, non-illuminated display requires proximity and squinting for Reading

Water Top Up Placement:

Right below the Basket Lift Handles! ...while Hot Steam is Rising

from them –high danger of Burns and Steaming accelerates water evaporation

making close watch and Top up necessary.

Keep Warm function:

Starts Steaming full on pretty quickly after turning off

can overcook everything if not removed or turned off the plug soon.

Overall

Compared to simple operation brands it offers some added features

and could be suitable for light and infrequent users.

To be Fair, i must declare here i am a Fussy Virgo and i compare it

with a better Brand –to my judgement and needs - but way more costly too.

Individuals must consider their own requirements. Idea of External Water Top ups (if better placed) 1) External Water Top ups Cause Fast water evaporation 2) Placement can cause Steam Burns

Very good service – I bought a George Foreman steamer from Briscoes Homeware Auckland New Zealand last year. Just about weeks. It's not working properly. Then I bring it back. There are no problem been replaced another one. This one working about one year period. Same problem showing on power faulty. So I call Briscoes Homeware helpline for help. Again there is no problem been replaced. It's just great service you can rely on. Very good service

Not if you use it alot! – Our steamer baskets are numbered 1 - 3. #1 is the bottom and all the others fit inside #1 & #2. We use it a lot. The baskets can't handle it and crack. Took it back under warranty. Same thing happened again. If you could chuck #1 and then use #2 instead it would be great, but the next one just dont fit. So we have to buy another brand. Large Family Size Steamer – Got this on special from David Jones for around $42. The Good Guys also sell it for that. It's a very large steamer. Plenty of room for cooking heaps of food. I think it would be good for 4-6 people. Its so much quicker and easier than stove top cooking. I got the idea of using a steamer when I was using a baby food maker which is a steamer and… Read more

blender combo. Obviously it is small and not suitable for adults, The George Foreman works well. It remembers the time when I switch plugs around the kitchen. Easy to program the amount of time you want to steam. The recipe book is small. There are only a few recipes, but I suppose it would help as a guide with what ever you want to cook. Easy, good price, very large, works well. Might be too big to sit on a bench top all the time.

A Good Stand-by – Dug this out of the kitchen cabinet while my Miele steam oven is under repair. The instruction was barely adequate. Couldn't get it work the first time because of wash water running down the front and seeping into the buttons. After taking it apart and drying it out overnight, it behaved normally. BTW, the innards are not pro grade as to… Read more

be expected at this price level.

The push buttons required a fair bit of finger pressure to operate, sometimes requiring both hands if the steamer is not fully loaded.

The stacks are easy to clean (but not the base plates--even these are easy to look after with a cleaning brush) and indeed if you steam foods in separate containers (I do in glass and ceramic), no cleaning (of the steamer) is really necessary. I used RO filtered water in the steamer (emptying after use occasionally) and no visible scale was detected after the maximum number of cooking sessions between descaling was well exceeded.

Storage is simple and tidy. The oval shape of the tiers, like most similar designs, makes it not easy to properly stack in place, although it could be useful for longish items like fish and whole veggies.

A minor inconvenience is condensate dripping down from the centre of the concave portion of the top cover. Steam time is generous and reasonably fast to start, thanks to the removable turbo ring to concentrate the steam. The vent holes on the top cover and the refilling spouts on the sides could give you a nasty surprise but probably not likely to scald if you are alert and agile. Still, using rubber gloves to handle the hot items is recommended.

I use a coloured spring clip at the start to remind myself of which side of the cover to steer clear of. There is a useful boil-dry protection function which safely shut down the steamer when overheated, probably standard in any steamer. I also liked the auto keep-warm feature, which is not available with my $1900 plus Miele, and the delay-start programme.

Overall, it is easy to get used to and relatively simple to operate. It has now become one of my very few chosen daily cooking utensils. Comparing its price with that of the cheapest full-blown machine and it is a steal. Long-term durability and Material Safety are beyond the scope of this consumer review, which represents my own experience only. Your mileage may differ. Simple to operate, clean and store; good steam time; convenient auto keep warm feature; useful boil dry protection. Buttons require excessive finger pressure to operate, often calling for both hands; cable slightly short; dripping from top cover.

Great Steamer! – I have been using this steamer for a long time now, its extremely reliable, user friendly, and holds a lot of food. I even cook things like Dim Sims etc in the steamer now along with veggies and rice. It just makes everything a lot easier to work with having the three levels aswell. Easy to use, Reliable, Holds a lot a food.

Great steamer, holds plenty of food – I like this steamer over other steamers I have bought in the past. It holds a good amount of food, enough for my family of 5. It is easy to use, relatively easy to clean and I haven't had any problems with it as yet (other steamers have gone rusty underneath or just died after warranty expires). This wasn't very expensive, especially knowing it will help with healthy eating. easy to use, healthy steaming, plenty of space for different veggies

Perfect and easy to use! – I received this as a gift and have not stopped using it, has been a wonderful addition to my kitchen!! It is healthy for my children and me and the food is much more enjoyable when it is steamed in George Foreman!! Love having the different layers so as to cook one complete meal in all at once! Best present given to me, easy to use!! No problems with it!!

Generally good but has a short life – The first one was a gift from a friend so I wasn't much upset when it stopped working after approximately one year. Just went and bought another one. However, it too stopped working just a month after the warranty expired. Not going to buy another one this time. Will try another brand. Not very expensive, easy to use, stackable. Works only about one year.

Perfect steamed veg/fish every time – Quite sturdy compared to other steamers i've used, Easy to assemble, enables you to steam heaps of veggies, fish or whatever you want to all at once, quite quick compared to my old steamer of a different brand. A well used appliance in our house, even my husband can use it! Good value for money A bit of effort required to wash and clean, but that's no different than any other electric steamer
