Dealer issues more than vehicle – Poor delivery service from new.wrong gear-oil lead to firstgear being difficult to get in a manual.oil done was good never had a problem with this since now 10 years old Show details
Good reliable family car with a hint of fun – Owned since new for 9 years. Family car for 2 adults and 2 small children. Used several times a day around suburbs with occasional long trips. 145k kms. Rarely off road, but good when 4wd required. Serviced each 15k. Had trouble with aircon when driven on long trip over 5 days of 40C. No other serious issues. myself - they snapped. First 20m slow but good accel once turbo kicks in. Fuel economy about as specified. Tows 1 ton trailer well.. can do more. Back paint showing wear after daily exposure in carport. Easy to drive. Have bought a bigger family car for wife and kids, and keeping GW for work and golf familt etc. Happy with purchase and confident to replace with haval h6 or the like when time comes.

Great Value SUV Great Wall Turbo Diesel X200 Built DEC12 – Purchased a DEC12 Built Great Wall SUV X200 2L Diesel. First on Road May13 65,500KM & appeared to be serviced well. Viewing the Great Wall reviews on web which indicated typical issues with this later model ie No problems to date except under warranty Rear Sensors which were not working had a few loose wires & small tailgate switch stopped… Read more · 2
working so need to climb in back to open. Fixed under warranty. For value paid well worth it; good options are leather seats, rear vision mirror auto dims rear lights & tyre pressure sensors as required.
Auto wipers & headlights work well. Rear fog lights were disconnected & are handy. Fiddly spot to reconnect.
Need to be aware of DPF engine oil & changing oil filter is not easy without a filter wrench (whilst doing it change air filter as well for easier access). SUV has a lot of plastic except leather seats but this also stops stains as happens with vinyl Looks clean all the time but may emit plastic odour.
Steering wheel controls re radio phone & cruise control work well. Dash bit hard to read in bright daylight but fine at night or dims days. Hill starts a pain re delay but switch off DSP alleviates this. Switching into AWD quite good on steep slippery roads or drives. Diesel Economy around town semi rural about 10L/100KM or 28MPG in old standards. Note this 5% reduced as speedo reads 5K above real speed according to my GPS mounted on dash. L/KM monitored continually on dash as is Cruise Control when switched. Headlight adjustment level handy as is Front & Rear Fog Lights. Top Red Lights on tailgate apparently never used? Tyre changing gear hidden under rear passenger Drivers side tricky!
Service the Diesel with the best DPF oils & change filters, injector cleaners etc & yes @75K to 80K Timing belt with a possible water pump check as well.
When buying; Other SUVs had 100K extra on the clock (not turbo diesel) & were 5yrs older for same price.
Using Great Wall named Pearls (as Pearl Black) partime work & private use. Does the job well & write off insurance is actually higher than what I paid for it!
Great Runabout – I purchased a used 2011 X240 and for the price I find it pretty good quality. DRIVING EXPERIENCE: The Mitsubishi sourced 2.4L 4 cylinder engine is gutless at start but maintains a good highway pace. Steering handling is tight and responsive. Others have said that it is difficult to shift gears. I find it OK - you do not have to guide the… Read more
stick, except for the hard shift into reverse. Overall vision is good, blind spots are typical for this size vehicle, but the reverse camera makes life easier when reversing.
THE INTERIOR: The leather seats are comfortable. I like the electric controls for the driver's seat, but I felt a little let-down when I discovered that the front passenger seat was fully manual. Legroom is sufficient for tall people like myself, though the headroom is lacking. The dash cluster tach and speedo are difficult to see during the day. But all controls are well lit and adjustable in dark environments.
The standard stereo unit plays audio CDs, and has a USB input in the console box which does nothing. I have to use the AUX input to broadcast m mp3 collection and Navigator prompts. But no matter what I am listening to, the phone bluetooth seems to work quite well and with steering wheel controls.
RELIABILITY: To be fair, I've only had this car for a few weeks so I can't yet give a fair opinion on it just yet. So far, she starts first go every time and gets me to my destinations near and far without any dramas. A tank of fuel can get me from Hervey Bay to Brisbane and back home, with some to spare.
OTHER LACKING: As an avid 4WD fan, I don't like that 4x4 function is available only offroad, and for soft trail driving only. A comfort driver like this needs CRUISE Control, and more options such as V6 and diesel on the lineup.
Overall, this car is not my first choice on the list. But it's a good daily driver and can accommodate four adults and room for groceries in the covered boot.
Arrg this car drives me insane but who would buy it of us? – Radio is absolutely worthless as no reception, reverse camera don't give you a clear view in majority of situations, auto lock can accidentally lock kids in car during hot day and would threaten their lives, the aircon is only in the front and not actually cooling down much at all despite being topped up with the gas and circulates super poorly… Read more
and not all around like the Kia Carnival for instance where the kids actually don't get overheated on a hot day here in Aus. Seats are comfortable, however seatbelts jam all the time creating huge fuss with the kids who will have a proper meltdown and you'll need to pullover frequently to correct this if your kids like ours actually aren't mannequins from a shop window placed in a car seat. So far we've bought it for about $6000 from a car dealership and within 3 months of buying it not having even gone 100 000km our battery needed replacing costing us a whopping $400, then a month and a bit ago the gearbox and a few other bits adding a bill of $1900 recently and I am afraid what the service will say once it's been property checked over OMG and let's not even start talking about the paint job of this Vehicle, it's actually so thin it's already rusted in small dots over the hood and peel off the rear side doors, simply put not enough paint job, so cheap as car - cheap as but cool gadgets not sure if it's worth all this hazzle as we didn't expect this car to read down less than a year after we bought it and had to be towed about 3-4 times now..... yes I'm not a happy mum however online on the tests it seemed to actually do brilliantly in 4WD... so that I haven't trie yet...running costs are actually more than you'd expect of a manual car of this size, legroom is ok if you're 170cm tall or below however dashboard is high up and restrict my vision but cool that the seat is remote controlled, interior the "leather" wears off quickly in te heat no doubt as it cracks when just touching it and that's with taking care of it like a baby giving it polish etc. I guess this is for families who want a cheaper but bigger car however I think a Holden Commodore or Kia Carnival or even a Volvo Wagon would last longer with less maintenance issues.

Great wall is just that great – Love it. Had it from new. Just replaced the tyres from at 120,000 km. Great family car and I live rural so can take out on farm. When I need to replace it will look at something the same, use it all the time to travel to work. Get service when I remember Show details
I'm surprised by how much I like this truck – This is mostly used for commuting and personal transport. I'm loving the Automatic everything. Headlights, wipers, windows, reverse camera, bluetooth connection for phone, Aux attachment for my iPod, leather interior, CC A/C, heavily tinted windows and large rear view mirrors. The diesel has plenty of punch once rolling but is a little slow off… Read more
the mark. A common complaint but with cheap and easy fix available via the internet.
The rear seats don't fold flat but the boot has a rubber mat and tie down hooks.

Money pit of issues – This car has cost me more in repairs then it cost me to buy. And still it’s still not working properly. It’s forever going into Limp mode even with it being fully serviced and after 1 light trip of 4x4 driving it blew the turbo. Radio forever staticy and usb plug doesn’t work, inside cigarette lighter Came apart so now doesn’t work. The car looks great but like most things in China it’s a piece of garbage. Show details

Dont buy unless you want to pay big $ in repairs – Warning, stay away. Had our X240 from 65K to now 150K. never been off road and serviced by the book. The list of monthly repairs goes on and on. Repairs to keep it going have cost 8k so far, and now we find out another $1,500 to fix up the engine management system. This model is now selling for around 3 to 4 K, so to put another 1k into repairs is… Read more
just not good sense. just a quick snap shot of what went wrong....this is not the full list.....rear diff blew, rear tail gate door handle x 2, door opening cables x 5, electric window motor switches x 6, numerous electrical faults and false alarms, 4wd system does not/has never engaged, electric seats randomly move to odd positions, engine control system/computer misfunctioning, various lights blow or blown, gearbox has never been able to change gears without coersion, just stay away, and btw, fuel consumption is not good.
Shifter assembly – Any idea of what kind of shifter assembly i can attach to my x240 great wall? I want to replace the old one cause theres too much play and its very loose. I can find a diagram of how it looks and i want to install a short throw shifter. Show details
its my baby – i enjoy driving my X240 drove it from Perth to Sydney no problems the interior is ok dashboard is easy to read and plenty of leg room it always starts first go i find the running cost are good it depends on how you drive its the same for any car Show details
Just nope ! – Bought an X240 with only 70k on clock thinking it would be less problems then a known brand with over 300k on the clock as I only had a 5grand budget , boy was I wrong 4x4 switch wouldn't work Faulty central locking Radio volume wouldn't work Power surge in engine , absolute no power on take off due to this surge Rust Wouldn't ever buy another one Show details
great family car on a budget – we got an x200 had it converted to a 7 seater for no extra cost. have had it 4 yrs and have not had a single problem. drove it from brisbane to tasminia and back fully loaded love it. sales team were fantastic drives great often stopped by peopl to ask what its like great buy. A lot of car for the price – Great vehicle for the price! Has been a great work car, quite reliable. We did have an issue during one of the services where there was a tear in the air inlet pipe leading to the turbo which was replaced under warranty. The car is underpowered especially off the line however once it gets going it is adequate. Show details
Can't complain for the money – Bought the X200 from dealer in 2013, demo model. The only problem I have had with the car was the brakes, swapped them out for Bendix. Replaced tires but that's natural wear and tear. Driven all over WA, not a single problem with it. Drives better than some Jap models and more reliable. Never took it to the dealer for service as they are complete… Read more
rip off merchants, the warranty is a joke as well, found a good garage and they do all the servicing on it for less than half the dealer price. The only other thing that has recently broke is the USB connector in the arm rest but I just use the jack instead now to connect my iPod. Great car for the price.
Biggest heap of junk ever – I bought brand new 2012 model, from the second day problems started, dealership and warranty mob fought me all the way. It spent more time in the shop for warranty items leaving me with no car in a rural area with no public transport. The head gasket blew and that was the final straw, I lodged a complaint with the ACCC they advised me to get rid of the car which I did. What a joke wouldn't recommend these to my worst enemy. Perfect for city or long distance dri – This car is economical and versatile. This model is automatic but can be manual by simply putting it into that mode.It is easy to drive around in cities and also great for long road trips. Fairly Good – When i bought this car, everyone gave me a bad review regarding this car, however my experience with this car is not too bad. it never gave me a trouble. It runs well, Good engine. only issue with the color, engine pickup, and interior. otherwise good car in low price. Show details
The only good thing about a Great Wall is the name – Hi , I bought in 2012 a Great Wall, not that I was so convinced about the brand but, I was due for a new car and it was for work, the Great wall had lots of room and was quit well equipped, bluetooth, I pod, auto wipers, 4 wheel drive, and plenty of other things. And I thought to give it a go, I also go 3 years warranty......... yeah right....… Read more
My car started to suddenly stop running and then start again, brought it in for service, nothing wrong they said.
I brought my car in for service, when I picked it up I noticed that a couple things weren't done but I was still charged for it, back wiper, button on steering wheel.
then my car started to stop more frequently without any reason, brought it in for service, oooo nothing wrong all ok
well that went on for about 3 years, each service costed a huge amount . New parts lasted for weeks to months to come in. once the warranty was gone they said there was an electrical problem, but sorry the car is out of warranty...... it went on and on, at the end I sold the car with a huge loss.
I warn everyone not to buy a Great Wall or a Haval because that's the same. Many owners complained about the same issues and bad service. So I was not the only one. And I read about some problems when I was buying the car, but thought oooo well it can't be that bad and I liked the space of the car.
So if you still buy one, I warned you.....don't come crying, I had my lesson too..... you give them a chance, and you hope they will give a good service because the brand is not well known, and then look how they treat you.
for a couple thousand more you can buy a Toyota which is ten times better ......
Deadly car – Bought my 2013 Great Wall SUV 1 month ago, looks very nice on the road and only has 61000 ks on the clock. I immediatley had coolant leaking problems, returned the next week for power failure trouble, returned the next week for dash light problems. All fixed by dealers workshop...apparently. cranky pants on when I take it back. Travelling on the highway on Sat 9th Sept 2017, I went up a steep incline, started at 100 kms per hour, within 5 seconds vehicle had lost all power, I eventually changed right back down into 1st gear, vehicle was doing 30 kms per hour, traffic was backed up behind me, I was able to pull off the side of the road to get out of the way, a semi trailer was was travelling in the same direction and I needed to get out of his way before he ran over the top of me. Very angry that my life was put into danger by the this totally unreliable vehicle.
I have no faith in this car at all, power on take off is very low, I am not game to over take a vehicle because the car keeps flat lining.
I would not recommend anyone to buy by this model..
Best car ever – I am the first owner I get the servers done every 10,000 k with no trouble at all.At 75,000k I had the timing belt and all belts Just for a piece of mine with now 77,000k with still the same tyres that it came out with Very Good Car I would buy one again Show details
Terrible car – The car itself is simple to drive but it looks and feels as cheap as it is. Having the x240 for only a couple of month, things ready started to deteriorate. The gear stick boot started to fall apart, the steering wheel went all flakey (yes it was out of the sun). We just had so many problems with it within a couple of months owning the car. Show details
spare parts rip off – How com ed i can buy on internet for a one tenth of parts for a great wall eg covers gor wheel centre cap 7dollars delivered compare to 80 at dealer gear shift cover 101 dollars hear of dealer 24 dollars off lnternet and why should you give body number for a part what great wall going to buy it back Show details
Has been great to drive love the seats, rear camera etc – However have now had three problems so did research and found many cars from Audi to i30 to whatever cars are having the same problem with ESP light and loss of power!! accurate diagnosis. Getting an offer of goodwill for the repair is worth trying as it has been a fault in manufacturing and VAG have taken a long time to admit it...if they are the manufacturer. So now to see if I can find someone to do the diagnosis and get it fixed! IIRC the fault code is G201 sensor and there is a akit to fix it as well for some models of cars Part number I believe is: 1K0 698 517 B
Five years old and @ 66K head gasket goes and takes engine with it – Had from new and never missed servicing, 66K and 5 years old and car is basically useless due to head gasket failure with subsequent damage engine. Best value SUV in Australia – We have owned our X200 since new in 2012 and though it has not been the most reliable of all the cars I have it has been better than most. At 75000 is it is still on its original tyres and the front pads still have 30% left on them. (Ironically the rear pads where replaced at 30000 by Bendix pads and they are still on 40% after 45000) We have… Read more
just had the first headlamp bulb blow and the car is now due for cam belt. The clutch is still original despite the fact we have pulled Commodores and Falcon home on a car trailer on numerous occasions . It actually handles the towing better than my V8 Caprice !
Any problems I have had I have been able to fix myself such as the turbo lag was fixed by a cheap Polish chip and blocking The EGR off.
The X200 has been the cheapest new car I have owned both in running costs and the purchase price . Yes I know it has bad resale value but hey the most I can lose is 25k that a lot less than l lost on any of my previous Holdens And Toyotas. It also get the job done and does most things as well as other 4wd costing more than double the price. The worst thing about owning the Great Wall is the brand snobbery in Australia .
BEST CAR GREAT VALUE FOR NONEY – WE LIVE ABOUT 70 KLICKS FROM BENDIGO WITH ABOUT 20 KLICKS OF GRAVEL MUD CLAY ROAD in 4 wheel drive on the gravel it out performs better handling control than my land cruiser tray series 79 2012 model does everything so easy a pleasure to drive on our back roads we fitted a bull bar for the roos only thing is the drivers seat is a little small for… Read more

Awesome value at the price – I've previously had a new Hyundai Santa Fe Tdi, and couldn't afford to replace it, so looked at the Great Wall X200. In 2015 I purchased a 2012 X200, in immaculate condition, with 20,000 on the clock for just NZ$18,000. I've now had it 18 months and put 30,000km on it, without any major problems whatsoever. Minor problems have been: - cheap… Read more
headlight bulbs blowing (replacements are simple and inexpensive)
- poor quality rubber on the turbo intake hose, which needed to be replaced
- poor front wheel alignment
Other than those, it has performed well, tows excellently, and offers an incredible amount of value for a relatively low price.
I've been really happy with my purchase and never regretted it for a minute.
I Hope I Live Long Enough – I bought a Great Wall X240 , the dashboard has been replaced , the indicator is stone deaf , cant hear it at all ., the alternator fell apart , it used to cut out when ever , then no steering , no brakes , the paint work fell off , due to environmental issues , mine was the only one in town , that had this problem , , now the radiator leaked and… Read more

, the 4 wd drive bit is exciting clunky , ,and the radio c/d player has a mind of its own , it eats c/d , it can't find a station around the corner ,
Strangley you grow fond of the car maybe it is a mechanical version of the baron munchasen sydrome of self inflicted pain ,once they have finished using us to sort out their problems it would be a reasonably good car , I hope I live long enough
Death Trap – I had a X200 for 11 months, and it kept dying, total loss of power, it did it on the freeway once , and we nearly got hit by a semi trailer doing 100 kph, we had no where to go to pull over, it just missed us. Anyway I kept taking it back, they kept putting it on their computer, and there was never a fault recorded, I ended up putting a polish… Read more
