Two Cats same issue. The price is blowing my mind. So are the results – Both of my cats, one 14 the other 15, were diagnosed with kidney disease about five months ago. I was told both needed a diet change immediately. This didn't go well. Both seemed to have wildly different tastes. It would seem one would settle in on a brand and then all at once reject it. This has been staggering to my wallet and mental health.… Read more

I've got caches of the wrong catfood I stocked up on as soon as one seemed to like it only to have it rejected immediately after I made a bulk purchase. Trust me when i say this. Ive been through them all at this point. Wet food dry food they've dabbled in everything in the prescription diet market. I became obsessed with the freshness of my cats foods my refrigerator and freezer are full of different cat foods. I was convinced for awhile it was staleness that was ruining it for them. Vaccum sealing all that. None of it wasn't making a difference. There was vomiting there was starvation sometimes stretching into three day bouts of no eating. I tried syringe feeding. Always a battle. Over the five months since my cats kidney disease diagnosis I personally have taken up smoking again, I have frequently cried in my car before work especially on days after my boys hadn't eaten much for three days. Ive broken down a couple of times and cried in front of students. My cats are my best friends. Then about two months ago out of the blue one cat settled in on the tuna and stewed vegetables canned food. That's all he's eaten since. One month ago my 14 year old cat decided he liked it too. Not only do they both like it but at this point both cats have now started to once again gain weight. Their fur feels better. They're running around and doing stuff again. It's been nothing short of miraculous. Here I was picking out coffins online crying myself to sleep night after night and suddenly it's like it was again five years ago. The truth is I would pay anything for these results. Im glad it's available but at this point caring for my ailing mom and the 160 bucks I'm going to be paying for hopefully ever to keep these guys fed sometimes I get worried about myself. The peace of mind the kd tuna and stewed vegetables has given me though is priceless. Anything for my boys I love these guys more than i ever thought I could love anything. The extra time means everything to me thanks KD.

Felines don't eat rice or carrots – We bought the Hills Kidney Care vegetable and tuna stew. Anyone who thinks that putting carrots and rice into a carnivores diet and then charging through the nose for it is ridiculous, and doesn't deserve your money. Yes they are supposed to have a lower protein diet, no, carrots and rice don't do the trick. You end up with a whole bunch of… Read more

useless food that you paid for that the cat won't eat. Why Trust your ill loved ones diet with a company that has no idea what your loved one needs?

Cats hate the food – It's hard enough when you have a sick kitty with kidney failure and then we try and force them to eat food they don't like. I've had 3 cats with kidney failure and I had to syringe feed...( which stresses out an already sick cat ), the kd canned food to them so they would get some nutrition. All of my cats hated the food. They need something… Read more

better tasting for the poor kitties who are already suffering with kidney failure. If I ever get another cat I will definitely do the raw food diet so my cat doesn't end up having to eat something so awful.

Saving my cat's life – I have a 17yo diabetic cat who suffered acute kidney failure a few weeks back. After switching from the m/d to the k/d, her kidneys are not only back to where they were before the episode, but improved! Her urea and creatinine levels (and phosphates, which were terrible before) have stabilised in the normal range, and for the first time in months… Read more

(even after we started insulin therapy for the diabetes) she's drinking and urinating a normal amount rather than flooding the litter box daily.

Suggestions for owners of picky eaters: she very much prefers the fish cans to the chicken cans, but I've found that fluffing up the chicken a bit makes her enjoy it more- and she can't get enough of the kibble. I know it's pricey, but considering both the financial and emotional toll of having her in hospital during her initial episode, it works out to be even money in preventing this from happening again soon.

Good – I really like the Hill's range of cat foods as they tend to be a lot better quality than most other cat food products out there and they are always recommended by the professionals as a good quality product. If you have a cat with kidney issues or need to keep on top of your cats health in relation to its kidney or other diseases than this is a… Read more

very specific food that does the job and is worthwhile using. It is more expensive than other brands, but is a great product and cats love eating it. Great for cats that need a specific type of diet to help prevent kidney disease. Expensive, but worth it.

Good – The product is great, the pretending it is medicine allows for regular gouging by vets, buy it online between check-ups, the postage costs are much less than 3 monthly vet testing for their own wallet benefit and the price is often lower. My indoor cat who was given a very poor prognosis due to failing kidneys is still going 3 years later on the… Read more ·  3

canned version of this, he will not eat the dry food. He was dying fast on standard premium food. Very expensive compared to other foods and vets want you to pay for extra blood tests/consultations to allow it to be bought which is a dreadful rort, there is no medicine in it, just less protein etc., there is no reason for the vet control other than profit, it is ridiculous

Excellent – Our second cat is extremely fussy and much prefers dry food to wet food. He wont eat supermarket brand dry foods (or will only eat them a few times) and we have had most success with the Hills Prescription diet varieties. We don’t strictly buy the ones targeted for certain aspects of his health (healthy adult cat), but buy the ones we have had… Read more

luck with that he seems to like, and alternate between them. Our fussy cat likes it, many different varieties available to target specific areas of cat health (and taste preference), high quality and good ingredients. It is much more expensive than supermarket brand cat foods, however the price difference is worth the increase in quality, and our cats prefer the taste.

Good – This is a nice product as I know it is doing something pro active for my elderly cat, kidney disease is very common in cats. It would be nice to see a little varity of flavours in the range however. Actually smells pretty decent, the cats really enjoy it, my vet has recommended it several times and sells it in bulk packets for a cheaper price, the… Read more

canned food is a faveriote with my older cat. Prevents kidney disease which affects many cats. Price, is a bit pricy and I've only ever been able to buy it in bulk from my vet

Excellent – Hills Science Diet is a pet food company I am proud to say I use. They have great quality products which animals love to eat. This particular one is for animals suffering from kidney disease. I know many owners who swear by this food and say they are lucky it has been around to help their cat live a more full filling life. Hills k/d is a qaulity… Read more

pet food, high nutritional content and it is great to see a company so dedicated to the health and wellbeing of ailing pets. Is pricey however you really only need to feed the cat half of what you would with any other product. Need a trip to the vet or a specialist pet shop to get it.

Excellent – When my dog was diagnosed with kidney disease I was given a can of feline k/d by mistake. My dog who had completely stopped eating loved it. I then bought the canine k/d and could not get her to eat it at all and as regular food was making her ill, I kept her on the feline k/d. The food only comes in one flavour, however in 4 months my dog has… Read more

never tired of it and still tucks into it with great enthusiasm. The difference in my dog's health has been remarkable. Her appetite is great, she has become energetic, she stopped vomiting and drinking excessive amounts of water and all of this happened soon after starting the food, before this she was very ill, tired, and had lost all interest in food. nice consistency, very appetising only one flavour
