Love this motor – Starts easy , even when I leave it sitting for 6mths. Puts my 4.3mtr Alloy boat up on a plane with two Large Adults in seconds. Quiet enough to enjoy a conversation , and drives for hrs on very little fuel .. would buy again in a heartbeat.

AVOID AT ALL COST – Honda has a reputation for reliability, one that is not deserved, I have owned many many outboard, Johnson, Tohatsu Mercs and Yamahas, they were all so much better than the Honda, gutless, constant fuel delivery issues, hard to start, ridiculously if it's cold weather, very heavy on fuel and always having issues.

Wow...that's all i can say about this marvel of engeneering – Hi to all, so after considerate amount of research i ...anyway.So i started with the most what you see others have, like Mercury,Evinrude,Yamaha,Johnson and then i was thinking does Honda make outboards ?...and do they ever do !!!,well they haven't been making much progress in the outboard/marine area since 1964...since they made the Honda BG30 model...and why ?,let's start with the dealer right here in Edmonton,Alberta in Canada where my wife and i bought our 2010 14.6' Lund WC14 aluminum fishing boat, let's say the dealer is named R...... Marine in the west end part of the city and they mainly would like to see a Mercury motor on you brand new Lund...well i know just why. They (Lund) are owned by an outfit named Brunswisk (or so) and they own a lot of other brands. So when after much research i decided that out boat deserves not what the dealer wants but what we want, and that is the best in the industry and you should have seen the sales person's face when i said that our boat is going to be powered by a Honda, not one but two.A troling motor 2010 Honda BF2 and a 2011 Honda BF25 as a main power plant. So why Honda since they haven't improved since 1964 ?...because they don't have to,they invented 4 strokes ! A marvel of engeenering, a tad more money that Mercury,Evinrude,Tohatsu,Suzuki,Nissan,Yamaha...but Honda deserves the higher coin because they are biger than the comp.,better, more reliable period !

I am interested in the Honda engines, but they didn't invent 4 strokes - that was ever so slightly before their time.

Can you tell us something of its performance, reliability, maintenance etc? I find the biggest difference that puts me off 4 strokes is the power to weight ratio. I have a 15 foot Seahog and with its current DT40 I can only run a very light auxilliary engine. As there is too much weight at the back.

That brings stability into question at speed with 3 or more people on board as it tends to overreact when turning with the extra weight forward - even with tilt on max - which I dont like doing as its digs too much and the stern wave is quite intimidating when coming off the throttle.

How heavy is the DF 25? I am genuinely interested in coming off the bigger engine as long as it planes and there is a significant weight advantage.

The long leg Honda BF 25 it is extremely reliable, have been using ours for 4 years now. It pushes our boat loaded very good, it goes on plane quick too. With just me I GPS'ed it 32 km/hour!. For weight look up the specs. I would think that the ones made for Canada are the International version.
