It;s a Honda – Contrary to public opinion I didn't find this bike ''heavy'. It's slightly tall and I'm short - but it handles so well. Slim, reliable and comfortable. will takes you anywhere - period. Soft road oriented suspension. Weight keeps you from being blown into the side lane on the road and steadied the bike on trails. Great engine braking and a bullet… Read more

proof motor, Low end torque on par with old KTMs - great riding ergonomics and economy. Best 250 single I've ever ridden. Won't need a rebuild until Jesus comes. Don't like CRFs - they're road bikes - the XR is old school factory racer - baby boomers love em

Nice enduro bike – This bike I bought 3 years ago. It is my first motorcycle. I learned all the basis on motorcycle riding on it. It has enough power for newbie (about 30PS). And suspension is very good, and moreover it is adjustable. It has very nice and more modern view than other bikes this category and year. (I mean Djebel 250 and TTR250) And I recommend it to buy.  Show details

Honda 2005 XR 250L – Hi Guys. I've had this bike, 2005 XR 250L since new. I have had absolutely no trouble with it. Apart from it being a bit on the heavy side, I have thrashed the living day lights out of it both on the road and on trail and track. It is a 250, sooo, you can't expect it to perform like a 400 XR, etc. It is light enough for me to be able to throw… Read more

around on trails, I can almost lift the thing up and load it onto the back of my ute by myself, like I said "almost."

The most important thing I have found with this bike is to change the oil/oil filter regularly (I use a premium mineral based oil only, viscosity depending on the ambient air temp at the time) wash the air cleaner regularly. I change the sparker regularly too, however this is not really necessary, I just change it because I can afford to. I usually clean the spark plug, regap it and reuse it at a later date, I only use NGK plugs.

I can't think of a better four stroke 250 on the market, not even the latest CRF models, blah blah, who needs the hassle of a radiator, water pump, etc. very over rated. (burned out any valves lately? pun intended, haha, cheeky!)

My XR is stock apart from having ground out the excess welding from the header pipes, removed the resistor from the spark plug boot (I replaced it with a fuse, NOT a steel bolt, runs well) opened up the stock exhaust baffle, re jetted the carb, added a foam air cleaner (I drilled several half inch holes in the plastic cover on the top of the airbox, covered them with a bit of lightly oiled thin foam padding, held in place by some nylon meshing so as to keep out any water, etc.) and changed the gearing. I run a 52 toothed gear on the rear and a 12 toothed one on the front. I would like to point out that the 12 tooth gearing on the front has a tendency to wear out fairly quickly. I run the most aggressive tyres I can purchase. At the moment I have Motoz tyres on both front and rear, perhaps not the best tyres I have used, but okay for now. Also made some minor suspension modifications.

I ride mostly on loose soft surfaces, I have torn up several paddocks and trail tracks in my time, due to my aggressive riding style.

Although XR's are not every ones cuppa, I don't think it will be any time soon that anyone will manufacture an all round dirt bike that will beat the old XR's, especially for reliability.

For those of you who disagree, your whinging has been duly noted, and entered in the captains log!

I looove this bike, I would not swap it for anything. It is my weapon of choice.

For those of you who like to modify your XR (carby, cams, suspension, exhaust, etc.) there is more than enough modification accessories available for these bikes.

Cheers to you all, hope you have had a nice day.

Excellent – Reliable and will hold value compared to other bikes. Years of no mechanical issues with routine maintenance. Light enough for one person to transport (into van/truck/ute). Reliable. Simple to work on. Bulletproof. Nothing to dislike.

That sounds like your stand switch. Push stand hard all the way up, before putting it in gear.

Excellent – I recently bought a 2005 XR250L I've done about 1500 kms on it, both dirt and road. Its very fogiving in the dirt, and a smoth bike on the road. Cruse's on about 95km per hour, but will zip up to over 120. Great bike to ride around with the kids on their pee wees. Bit more expensive than other brands of similar ability, but worth every cent due to… Read more

looks, relability and resale, as I have a couple of other 250 dirt bikes over the years. XR250L (fun and easy to ride) electric start, look steel petrol tank, older XRS used to have a plastic tank
