Read the Instructions and watch the on-line video - Easy to Use – I am not sure why this had so many negative reviews - I did a lot of homework before I purchased this machine - Very satisfied with the steam multi-cleaner - I have arthritis and the handle is easy to grip, no need to hold it tight and it has a little button on side to keep the steam on - there is no need to push down hard on the shaft - excellent… Read more

for cleaning floor tile grout without bending down or on hands and knees - could see an immediate change. The power cord is long and the unit is very light weight and easy to pull around. The tank holds 1.4 litres of water, and lasts about 1 hour 15 minutes. I used warm water and it took only 10 mins until it was ready to use. Read the Instruction booklet - wait for the unit has completely cooled down after use - approx. 45 minutes before you loosen off the cap very slowly where the water goes in - do it slowly. Whilst the steam level knob has no indicator on it you can tell when it is completely up high or down low by the direction you turn it - read the instructions - I have used a hand held steamer but doesn't work like this multi-cleaner. I don't think this unit is flimsy - everything has been made light weight - good for people who struggle with heavier machines.

Does the job but sent me to hospital with burns – While this works extremely well (once I can get the cap off to fill it then get it back on again), there is no way of knowing how much water is in there until you notice no steam coming out and realise it's empty. I also ended up in hospital with severe burns to my hand because despite turning it off and waiting over 40 minutes before attempting… Read more

to take the lid off there was still so much pressure in there once I had loosened the cap it blew off and hit the ceiling (higher than normal ceiling) along with a volcano of boiling water which narrowly missed my face. I haven't used it since because it's outright dangerous. The pain in my hand was enormous and the skin eventually peeled off looking like a potato baked in its jacket for too long.

My hands down favourite – I love this steamer! I am currently onto my 2nd one. It takes a few minutes to heat up which is ok if you have plenty of time but once it's ready to use you can use it continuously for 45 minutes or more before it needs refilling. The adjustable steam pressure makes this product so versatile!!! I can turn the steam down low and clean my walls with… Read more

ease. This is a powerful and effective steamer, I absolutely love it!!! It has onboard accessory storage which is handy and stops the accessories from getting lost as well as keeping them readily accessible to swap over while in use. Nice long power cord and it is compact and easy to store when not in use. I highly recommend this steamer. The first one I bought did begin to leak water from the cap on the tank after a while but that was after I flogged the guts out of it, however it still works fine, I purchased my 2nd machine 2nd hand on gumtree and it is still working perfectly. I submit my steamers to some pretty heavy duty use and have tried many many different units. This one has stood the test of time and outlast all the others except for my shark liftaway. I would say the liftaway is better quality but this is more versatile.

Would not buy another one – Very satisfied with the cleaning power, but the handle is not comfortable to hang on to, feels like it will snap, the steam level knob has got no indicators on it and can't see how much water is in the tank. Takes a long time to get up to temp.  Show details

Unusable handle – Got blisters on my hand after a few minutes. The extension tubes are wobbly - I wonder how long before it all falls apart. It takes quite long to heat up. The mop head is rigid and is in an awkward angle, have to band to lay it on the floor. The steam adjustment control is not marked clearly. UNUSABLE with this handle! Wasted money even for… Read more

Waayyy much better than my previous steam cleaners – Had this machine for 3mos now and love it! Very good steam power, dries quick, long cord, numerous/useful attachments, light and easy to use even for my arthritic hands, no chemicals needed-just add water and turn on, quick to heat up, sturdy build, yep-no water gauge but when steam runs out then water is out...simple (!), cleans my 4br/ 2bathroom… Read more

Love using it that I steam my children's houses for free! And will def buy them a unit each next time it goes on sale at same price...hurry up please Mr Hoover!! :)

Quality appliance that does what it was designed to do – I don't understand the negative reviews. I think people who just didn't understand what they were buying when they bought it. Yes sure it isn't perfect but I find the design and… Read more

build quality both very good and very practical. These retail for $399 and I picked mine up secondhand for $185. I will also say that I have absolutely no experience with steamers so my expectations and feedback may not be quite fair in terms of what to expect from a comparable product.

Pros:

- Above average build quality and finish

- Simple, suitably stylish and effective design

- Good steam pressure and capacity should last for most household jobs without refilling

- Very good range of tools and accessories with practical and easily accessible on-board storage

- Mop and pad work surprisingly well on epoxy garage floor and painted timber floor.

- Long hose and power cord, never had a problem with this reaching anywhere.

Cons: (none of these are show stoppers, more so improvements that are required to the product).

- No way of knowing how much water is left in the tank.

- When cleaning/descaling tank, you can't get all the water out which is annoying more than an actual issue.

- When steam in hose cools down a bit it turns back into fluid which means a lot of water will come out initially prior to steam. This applies both when you first heat up and use the steamer and when it has been sitting for several minutes. Always have a bucket or somewhere you can shoot the excess water first, it can be quite a bit.

Glad it was only $88 – What a piece of junk. I don't think I could find anything positive about this. It takes so long to heat up I could have my floors done by a mop and bucket quicker (and with better result) Leave my tiles streaky, the handle is awkward to use and hurts your hand after a while. The floors stay wet for ages and it spits almost as much water as steam.… Read more

The head is at a weird angle so only part of it even is used for mopping.

I would have been angry if I had paid $300+ for this rubbish.

I love this unit, a must buy – I love this unit it cleans amazingly. I love the fact is that you don't have to hold it in your hand, that you have a trigger to hold down and use. This is the only steamer to get. The long hose allows you for getting in those hard to reach places. Showers around fittings and around the toilets. Very happy

Excellant Machine – I bought a carpet shampooer from Godfreys and this steam cleaner was "thrown in for free". It heats up quickly and does its job with no problems. I have not… Read more

found the handle to be flimsy at all, you dont need pressure on it just a simple back and forth and it is done! The pads are washable so saves money on replacing them often. The glider attachment for carpet works well for giving the carpets a lift between shampoos. I use it everywhere in my home from floors to carpets to shower screen to oven, and have never had a problem with it. I use mine weekly and it has never let me down. Easy to store in one of those plastic tubs from Kmart too, I snap apart the handle and store it all in the tub. For emptying just empty out as much water as you can and leave it to cool down and dry a bit, then store without the stopper in. I have done it this way for over a year without problems. I highly recommend this machine!

Great first steam cleaner – From a recommendation this is a great entry level steam cleaner, yes the handle is flimsy, but it is great for cleaning soap scum from the glass shower screen and perfect for windows and mirrors also this is hard to beat for detailing the engine bay in your car , so all in all for the cheap price at Godfreys its a bargain so go grab one they are on sale for $88.

Don't bother with it! – I agree with most of the comments already given. We have an extensive area of tile that has a slight grain in it. placed over a stain/mark for 20 seconds for it to work and then not deliver anyway. Yes, the handle feels very flimsy and feels as if it would break quite easily. I have found a really niffty tool in the supermarket that I now use while mopping the old way. It is a scourer attached to a long handle. I use this for any hard to move stains on the kitchen floor and then mop as usual. THIS IS MUCH BETTER. The promises were great. Doesn't deliver on the promises.

JUST AN AVERAGE STEAMER – This review is based on my experienced using this floor steamer. I had to wear thick garden gloves to use this because the handle is badly designed, it hurts your hand after you used it for a few minutes (I didn'd need to wear gloves with my previous floor steamer). Can't see the water level in the tank. The steam adjustment button does not have… Read more

a high and low steam indicator. It is very hard to remove the excess water from the tank after you have cleaned your floor. The steamer is not so effective even on the highest steam, you need to run the mop on the same area a few times to get it cleaned (I have white shiny floor tiles) It only takes me half the time to clean the floor with a mop and bucket. The good feature about it is the hose is larger than normal floor steamers and it's designed like a vacuum cleaner, therefore there is no need to push the whole unit forward and backwards when cleaning. The Hose and it's designed like a vacuum cleaner Handle badly designed, can't see water tank and removal of excess water from the tank is a real chore. Take double the time to clean the floor than a bucket and mop.

Good and Bad – I have recently purchased the Hoover 5650 heritage Multi Purpose Steam Mop and have used it a couple of times. I now have a considerable sized blister on my hand that was holding the handle with hideous grips. This has happened both times have used the mop, and not for a long period of time. Also, the instructions that come with it are… Read more

lacking in so many ways. It doesn’t tell you what temperature settings are recommended for the cleaning you want to do. I asked the sales rep from the store I purchased it from and was advised that you have to work it out yourself. Luckily I have enough common sense not to use it on full power for more delicate cleaning. But this should be stipulated in the instruction manual.

I can say that it is very good for cleaning floors, glass and mirrors. It is however, useless at cleaning anything that has older stains or marks. For example, it is useless in removing the calcium build up on shower screens and the mould from the tiles and in the rooks and crannies. The attachments don’t help at all.

My other concern is with the flimsiness of the pipe.. It bends with the slightest pressure. I will be expecting a free replacement when it does eventually snap, which I am pretty sure will happen at some stage. Light weight, easy to use. Good for glass Grip on handle causes blisters, needs retractable power cord.

wants a water gauge on a steel pressure boiling tank....just something to break. I blasted out the big 900mm oven and a big canopy stainless steel rangehood and all the black stains on the hobb trivets all so thick with gunk the chemical clean was no good, but sprayed it with degreaser first and left to soak in. Then the soap scum in the shower and glass, way faster than srubbing by hand. Then put the cloth on the floor thing and did the tile floors much quicker than the mop and drys faster. Plus a bonus use, black mold on bathroom ceilings using the floor mop upside down did that fast compared to ladder and a sponge. Also good at cleaning the toilet too. Don't worry about leaving water in it, tip what you can out and leave the cap off, and it drys out,it's a stainless steel tank, just don't leave it full of water when you store it. Much more powerful than most domestic steam mops, lots of attachments come with it. nothing yet

Over priced, under-engineered & flimsy – This was the first steam mop we purchased. It did not live up to expectations. We originally wanted a steam mop to clean our tiles & grout. their reputations. It gave a good steady supply of steam once it got started. There is no water level to see how much you have left. When filling, air bubbles form & water spills out & you think its full when its not. There is no simple way to empty it, just tip it upside down & shake the water out. It comes with a funnel, so its difficult to fill without it. The steam knob has no markings, so you don't know which way to turn it up or down. You can't refill the unit if its hot so you break up your cleaning routine waiting for it to cool. The attachments travel with the unit, always like excess baggage. When you connect the mop head extensions, they feel flimsy because they are. If you apply any pressure to the mop head, the extrension arm bends awkwardly & threaten to break. When you first start it, a lot of water comes out. so sections of mopping need redoing. It takes a while to heat up. You always need to work backwards, so constantly moving the unit & cord out of the way.

Ok, but misses the mark – As a mum of two very busy boys and two dogs I also happen to be conscientious and house proud, I love the fact that I can clean without exposing my young family to chemicals. 50-80 sqm of textured non shiny tiles.

When my old mop broke I wanted something that would do all this with ease and possibly clean the grouting in the bathroom and have the added bonus of cleaning other things well. When I purchased this rather expensive machine I was told it was a 5 bar cleaner but later when I questioned Hoover they informed me it was in fact a 3 bar....

I started cleaning the walls and within 2 mins the spring that holds the cleaning pad to the mop head broke, I returned to the store and the guy in Godfreys fixed it. I finished the walls (which it did do a good job) then started on the bath rooms, on the shower glass this was absolutely fantastic totally impressed.

And the preformance on cleaning the oven also impressive. The grout it was very slow but did a reasonable job ( the design of the handle leaving very sore read blisters on my hand). After a day or two I decided to attack the floors, if I had have had a shiny tile floor I would have been devastated at this purchase, it left streaks and an oily film over the floors.

I thought that maybe it was due to not washing the pads first, but no that didn't work either, again the mop head popped apart several times and I fixed it again myself. As its primary purpose as a mop this machine was disappointment but its other uses tend to give it back a few points. I really think that some re-design is needed to make this product so much better.

The mop head has a brush attachment, I think they need to make them separate as this is part of the problem, the brushes are the part that has contact with the floor, so the whole mop head has contact with the floor not just the small area where the brushes are. Putting a gel/silicone/rubber grip on the handle would go a long way to making it more comfortable to use and a micro fibre mop attachment would also be greatly appreciated. Good at cleaning bathroom glass, portable, versatile, The mop head needs a complete re design, the handle needs a gel/rubber/silicone grip

Very dissapointed – I wanted a a cleaner to clean or tiled floor and bathrooms. I have given the unit two good goes now but it is so terrible to use. The unit and hose is way too awkward to get in around inside and out of the shower. Kills germs without chemicals. The handle. Awkward to drag around the house. The cloths don't pick up much dirt. Awkward handle – The design of the handle is awful! I have used it to clean my floors twice now, once for 20mins and once for 10 mins. Perfect for the BBQ – I am very impressed with the jets of steam that emit from the Hoover Heritage 5650. I expected it to clean tiles but could it clean a much loved barbeque? Good quality but disappointing at cleaning – I picked up a vibrating polishing head from Godfrys to clean the grout on our new floor. length of power lead which felt nice and flexible. The steering wheel works well and it is so easy to attach and remove the hose and heads, it is just a well made machine.

The instructions are virtually non-existant, there is a video on the web but considering the cost and claimed functions you would expect some explanation on how to use it. The small manual just covers precautions.

Hoover sugges you can use it to clean carpet and curtains etc; although, I could not understand where the dirt and water would go and how you could dry the carpet after it was steamed, perhaps the dirt just gets blasted deeper down so it is not seen.

My interest was in cleaning the grout and I viewed the additional capabilities as a bonus.

The steamer generates a fair bit of water, so there is a bit of work required in mopping it up. The machine needs to be rather effective to compensate for finding storage room, the effort of getting it out, filling with water heating, then cleaning up the mess after use.

The problem was that it didn't seem to clean the tiles or grout at all. We had some staining in the grout and the steamer made little difference.

We ended up trying a microfiber sponge with much better effect on the grout, so I had to take it back.

Godfrys were very good and cheerfully refunded our money.

I have included an image below showing the vertical line cleaned by the steamer and the horizontal line cleaned by hand.
