Waste of time, don't buy – This printer turns a simple print job into an hour of frustration. It's always a toss up whether it will actually print what you ask it to or if it will just sit there as if nothing happened. Sometimes it will print the job if you turn it off and on again, but often instead it prints a backlog of jobs that you had asked it to do days ago, but gave up on and now no longer need. No idea how this machine passed any quality checks. It's a waste of time and money.

BEST VALUE – I purchased this one about 8 years ago when my existing printer died. It was a cheapy on special, under $30, meant to be just to get me through an urgent job. Eight years later it's still going. I use it almost daily either for printing or scanning. I print mainly shipping labels for which I use scrap paper. Occasionally it jams. I just rip it out and it's ready to go again.

And they say "they don't make things like they used to". This has got to be an exception.

Good portable workhorse – Bought this HP 1050 printer/scanner over 2 years ago because it was cheap and I was wanting to temporarily replace the office scanner that was away for repairs. I now take it with my laptop on business so I can copy & scan (and occasionally print) on the road. Takes all the knocks and carrying every which way and has performed well so far. The print fonts come out ghosted when using it on another laptop using the same set-up disk and same spreadsheet. No idea why but it does mean I can only use it to print from the Dell and not the Toshiba (both Win7 64bit). Easy to use, closes up compactly, fairly robust. Ink is very expensive. One cartridge is more than the machine. Would not recommend it as a bulk printer. It also dries up prematurely - I put in boiling water until the water starts to colour and it works again.

Well I am back with a complaint this time. I have had the printer 2.5 years now and only use it as a scanner and no longer travel with it. I am not aware of anything having changed on my computer, but it no longer scans - I get a "busy" error message. Have gone through all the HP help, updated, reinstalled drivers, rebooted etc, spent hours on it and still can't get it to scan (the only reason I keep it), it will copy and print though. It will now join the other inkjet printers I can't give away due to functions not working, no Win 7 drivers etc.

Thank goodness I found this! – The hp is perfect for my needs it is cheap, reliable and easy to use. It has a copier, printer and scanner facility which is what I need to work at home in comfort instead of staying at my workplace after hours. I actually get more done having the hp with me and I am better prepared for the school day. small, reliable and cost effective can't always get cartridges where I live

what a bargain !!! – I won a $50 Harvey Norman gift card and managed to buy this printer for $48, to be honest i wasn't really expecting anything much from it but have been pleasantly surprised, it works well and i have had no problems at all with it....for under $50 what more could i ask for :) inexpensive, easy to use and reliable
