In It For The Ink! – Prints great last HP Lasted 8 years. The 309 gave up after 18 a months and only 300-400 copies. Repair tech said it was the rear pinch roller more than the printer cost. I'm thinking printer company's sell the printers at a low price point looking for the return revenue of overpriced ink cartridges. No more HP Printers in this house!

Love the colour, hate the printer – Works fine at first for a year. Then it started getting the paper jammed. Ink went out really, really fast. Copier was fine at first but didn't work after 2 years. Thought maybe it would work only when all the cartridges had ink but no. The feeder was fine. Overall, really a disappointment. The colour as it matched my room colour. Noisy and playing up all the time.

Piece of rubbish printer – Bought for home business. Wireless radio died after 11 months, so HP sent replacement after a few hours on the phone troubleshooting. Replacement printer did exactly the same thing....unreliable. Both the bluetooth and wireless connections frequently drop out. HPs default fix is to send an email when there is clearly serious build problems… Read more

here. It cannot print a photo either. A blurry mess. Looking now to moev right away form this manufacturer. It looks good. The CD printing facility is useful. There is a significant problem with wireless capability. It has failed on two printers now.

hp never again – Printer has lots of functions, but doesn't even last through the warranty period. Wireless function quit after 6 months, replacement printer lasted 7 month. HP is aware of the problems, and customer support takes you through a two hour testing period only to confirm what they know already is the problem, but there is no interest in providing a fix or replacement parts. functions doesnt last more then 6-8 month, ink catridges are very costly

Great while it works; no parts and HP support is very poor – We bought this multifunction printer for SOHO use. It offered just about everything we wanted: print, fax, scan, CD/DVD printing, wireless connectivity, separate ink cartridges...great. Setup is not that straightforward, but eventually we got it going, installing the software on both Macs an PC's. For the first 18 months, it was brilliant:… Read more

wireless printing from anywhere in the house produced excellent quality documents in B&W or colour. Even photos were very good, and the DVD printing was excellent. The only downside was its ink consumption, and the cost of cartridges. Then it all started to fall down. First it would not turn off, but to give HP their due, an email from support helped with that. Then the wireless died. Despite the indicator light saying that wireless was working, a function test said it was not. Called HP...you get sent to the Phillipines. With some difficulty, eventually found out that there are no parts available: This was a printer less than two years old! Not good enough. Then the Bluetooth went. Then we were unable to scan directly from the printer to computer. Then we were unable to print from USB devices. Still no help from HP. We were able to get around the loss of wireless by connecting directly to our Airport extreme, but this did not help with the scanning from the printer.

Now, a less than three years old, it has stopped printing black. Colour yes, not black. Tried cleaning the printheads to no avail. Tried aligning the printhead, but consistently get a fail message. Even manually flushed the black printhead (did not appear to be blocked) but no difference with two brand new black cartridges. (I should add we have only ever used genuine HP cartridges)

Now a call to a local repairer tells us there are no spares available for this model. Less thank three years old!

This is unacceptable, and when I read user reviews of other HP multifunctions on the web, and hear lots of similar problems, I will not buy an HP printer again.

In summary, this is a great printer when new and does everything asked of it, but the premature breakdown, lack of spares and very mediocre and difficult support mean I cannot recommend it. Very good all-in-one when new. Fast printing, very good quality documents, photos and discs Premature failure; thirsty for ink and costly to run; poor support; no spares

Good – Lots of features for not a heap of cash. Like another reviewer, I find the HP software a bit of a pain as I like to do things myself, however my wife really likes it. Duplex scanning means you can now scan and shred those old bills. It might take a while, however the feeder is quite reliable so you can set it up and do somethign else. For a… Read more

fairly low cost machine it has duplex scanning and printing. Simple set up, lots of features. We have ours set up to listen to the line with our answering machine so that it grabs any faxes that come through. Document feeder will pull through 6x4 photos so you can scan those old prints a pack at a time. The document feeder is a bit slow, even though the printing is quite fast. It's not the quietest printer we have ever had but not unreasonable.

Good – Very happy with the build and performance of this product that over time has proven to be a reliable machine and well worth considering. Has a heap of features that are useful on a daily basis. We have found this to be a great all-round fax/copy/print setup for a home/office scenario. We love the bluetooth functionality, ability to print graph… Read more

paper and other 'cute' functions such as sudoku games! More importantly we find the print quality great, the scan and copy functions smooth and easy and included software make most tasks straightforward and easy. We don't use it very much but the CD printing function is appealling when we do need it. Slightly bulky, document feed tray annoys us as it does not lock particularly securely into place, it does not support a vast array of media cards.

Good – In all my overall opinion of this multifunction printer is very positive. The ability to print photos straight from a memory card is a bonus, as is being able to scan something quickly onto a USB drive both without the ned to turn on the computer. This is my second HP printer and I love it. It was very easy to install and as we have 3 computers on… Read more

our home network the wireless capability was very important. set up was simple to do on all computers and printing is seamless. The OCR functionality is easy to use. the two sided print function does not work with all software applications.

Good – Overall, I am very happy with this product. If you look around for the best price (JB Hi Fi was cheapest $269 when I purchased), it seems to be the best value and performing 4-in-1 machine with with wireless. - Wireless is handy - Prints great photos and other output - interface on the machine and the software is simple - prints quickly -… Read more

duplexing - Heavy ink usage probably makes most photo printing uneconomic

- Takes a long time to restart after being in power saving mode, so better to leave power saving mode off

Excellent – I purchased this printer a couple of weeks ago and so far I think it's great. It was pretty easy to set up and add to the wireless network - which is terrific (I even printed a photo from my N95) - and the print quality is quite good. I really love the Quick Forms feature which allows you to print a range of different pre-programmed pages… Read more

directly from the printer (ie no computer required). You can print line paper, blank checklists, even Sudoku puzzles. So cool!

I like that it has a special tray for photo paper (my old HP didn't have that) and another special tray for CD/DVDs. It's a nice looking machine and the menu is bright and easy to use.

Only complaint is there is some sort of issue with the software component as everytime I restart my computer it picks up where it thinks it left off in the installation/registration process which is rather frustrating. I registered it online the first day I used it yet this still keeps appearing. Wireless, multifunction, Quick forms! The HP software is kind of annoying

OK – Having previously had an Office Jet T65 and only replacing ink catridges what seemed like twice a year I was surprised to have low on a black and one of the colours within a month and I used draft quality printing most of the time and had only done 3 photos. Crazy! I love the wireless printing so I don't have to have it hooked up by cable to my… Read more

computer and the laptop can print to it as well. Beautiful photo print quality. Good that the ink catridges are separate for individual replacement. Love the document feeder and the flat bed for copying. Double sided printing is also great for saving paper. Ink catridge was used up very quickly.

Good – I love my printer! I wanted something that had the OCR software, and automatic document feeder. I am a uni student and studying to be a teacher, so I often get handouts which I want to change slightly, re-word, etc. This is great cos I pop it on the scanner, get it to save in word and then I can edit til my heart's content! Plus the Auto Document… Read more

Feeder makes it much faster.

Also, my older lower model HP only scanned in picture formats - this one you can do one side, double side, etc. and save them in word, adobe. Saving them as a PDF is so much better! Also requires much less effort - so much so that I actually scan in all my personal paperwork (bank statements, invoices, etc) and chuck the paper copy. Takes next to no time to do it, but is easier to find later than sorting through my filing cabinet! Easy to use, does everything, prints good quality photoes for an at-home job, has text recognition - can scan documents straight into microsoft word without having to re-type. The defult print settings are mucking about on mine and don't save correctly, but I'm sure that's something silly that I'm doing! Wasn't like that when it first installed.

Ink can be expensive and the "cheaper" brand inks are hard to use - it's not as simple as buying a new cartridge and putting in - you buy a new one and have to remove a chip from the proper HP one and muck about. I find it easier to buy the proper ones - actually doesn't work out too much more when you buy a pack of all the inks.
