Two for less than the price of an Iphone! – My wife and I own one of these each. I have to say there is an odd quwerk with mine and hers. Its to do with the time keeping, it has a tendancy to show the wrong time from time to time. My wifes phone battery lasts only 2 days and mine about 4 or 5 days. My wife broke hers and I sent it back to Huawei sevice centre(Road Hound in Sydney). … Read more

Huawei picked up the phone free of charge repaired it and returned it free of charge. The warranty had expired a little more than 2 months earlier. I cant complain, Excellent customer care if you ask me.The phones are over 12 months old now and they have worked quite well. A good smart phone for someone not looking for all the bells and whistles. Upgradable Poor photo/video

Good budget android phone capable of 2.3.5 and 4.1 – for the price at the time this phone was a bargain and even after a year its still good. However the stock firmware is horrible, upgrade to the 2.3.5 official Huawei Firmware on the support site. It also has a huge mod scene and many people are running 4.x+ with no issues that i can see. Fantastic screen, good build quality, massive dev community, reliable. stock firmware leaves nothing to the imagination

It's a piece of [censored word removed]! – I don't care what anyone says here within this forum this phone has been nothing but problems. Try and return it and get money back another issue. Some of the problems that has arisen are overheating, major battery faults (which isn't covered under warranty - however this actually illegal as it should be to acceptable quality which it isn't),… Read more

major software crashes, drop outs, not been able to answer phone, touch screen not responding accordingly, phone ringing up the non desired contacts and furthermore the case that keeps getting broken day to day. I bet the other people who have wrote about this product have not used the product to the same extent as me or for as long as me. So all in all this product is horrible and should be avoided. Spend the extra money!

The name of the brand, battery, software, phone calls....

Considering the price, this little smartphone is awesome – This is my first smartphone and i purchased it so i can play games like words with friends as well as make a few calls. I specifically was after an Andriod phone as my husband has the Iphone4. This google smartphone has everything you need and is a great price. The Huawei phone is really easy to use, and has fantastic choice of ringtones.. … Read more

So i don't rack up a huge bill from internet use, I turn off the net/android market by unselecting data enabled and to save battery i select 2g newtork.

For those who are freaked out by the brand name, dont be!! Apparently its pronounced Ha-way :o) Inexpensive, easy to use and the screen is bigger than an Iphone4 so far i have been unable to get a cover or case for it at the markets, I might have to go back to DSE and see if they stock them

Hated this phone – As a new product it worked well, however within two months it would turn itself off, or not turn off at all. Finally when it was in the standby position the entire phone heated up so much that it was amost too hot to hold in my hand. When I returned it to where I purchased it they said that it was a common problem with this type of phone as the… Read more

internal software was constantly drawing power from the battery and overheating. It could easily have caught fire, a very dangerous situation. I would not recommend this phone at all.

A seriously dangerous overheating problem

Good phone – This smart phone is equally as good as any of it's major competitors and costs less. Has all the functionality that Android offers,. I purchases from a retailer and would not recommend them for customer service. Stylish, user friendly,

High end phone for mid-end price – I bought this phone for $350 from Dick Smith in April 2011. It is a beautiful phone with a large and clear 3.8" touchscreen and reasonable 800mhz processor. It also came with an 8gb micro Sd card pre-inserted along with 2gb of internal phone memory which adds up 10gb. Its latest OS is Android 2.3 which can be updated on the Huawei Website.… Read more

Regarding battery life, it lasts me on average 4-5 days with data off, 3g off (2g on), satellites off, background data off and automatic brightness with moderate use each day. The external buttons on this phone aren't all that sturdy, the volume rockers on the side are of appalling quality and the unlock and power button on top is very annoying and very small. Alternatively, I would like the unlock button to be underneath the screen like an iphone and a separate power on/off button on top. Huawei claims that the U8800 yields a 5mp camera with HD video recording capability, but in my eyes, it's completely false. the camera is sub-standard as it takes 3mp shots and the picture quality is reasonable if there is sufficient day light, it is hopeless with little light even though it has a flash. I'm also disappointed at the fact that it has no camera shutter button. Overall i would recommend this phone and also Huawei; the company to others due to the fact that the are aiming to compete with the big guns of the communication industry like Samsung, Nokia and Apple and are succeeding in their objective. High end features/specs Build Quality of the buttons. Camera not all that good

Amazing smart phone for the price – I wanted a smart phone but wasn't prepared to spend 100's and 100's of dollars on a mobile phone (I have a habit of losing them!). Had never heard of the Huawei 8800 until I was shown one at Dick Smith... and it was perfect. Great size, screen clarity, intuitive and easy to use. But the best thing was the price - a full function smart phone for… Read more

$249 (from memory). Although as another reviewer pointed out it does need to go on the charger each night.

This is by far the best value smart phone on the market. No its not an iphone and it doesn't pretend to be. But it doesn't have an iphone price either. Its a good Android, which will do me for years - and won't be a fortune to replace if lose it! (cross fingers!) Fantastic value smart phone, easy to use Android Battery life could be better (but I'm told that's common with all smart phones...)

Unmatched value for money – This phone is easily the best value for money high-end smart phone around. It looks decent, feels nice and is very responsive. Nice large clear and crisp screen. Not bogged down with a load of bloatware. Overall a silky smooth user experience. Doesn't take very good quality photos (or videos) compared to other similarly specced phones, but having said that it will probably be good enough for most people anyway.

Excellent value Smartphone – I shopped around for a smart phone for some time. In the end I felt for performance, capabilities to cost ratio, this phone was definitely the best value for money. I've always been a heavy user of mobile phones but I find now I use it even more if possible. If you own this phone be prepared to charge it EVERY night or it will die on you (however… Read more

this is standard with most smartphone as they are practically a portable PC)

Overall: I believe this is an excellent phone and would recommend it to anyone. Excellent value for hardware specifications to cost ratio, big bright beautiful screen, wireless (b/g/n), typically fluid movement of screens, Android 2.2 OS, no additional software layered on top of OS by manufacturer, microSD expandable memory, 512 MB RAM, swype keyboard, microUSB, speaker phone, can make its own Wi-Fi hot spot that other devices can connect too Occasionally restarts unexpectedly, poor battery life, occasionally "freezes" and you have to wait a little while for it to catch up, 5 MP camera not the highest quality pictures and the flash does little, will consume battery significantly even in standby mode.
