Some teething issues but it's been great for 4 years – I bought mine knowing the bikes had some quality issues. Mainly do to the charging system. Before they ever even took it out of the crate I had ordered a Ninja 250 stater and a mosfet regulator rectifier. I road the bike for a few months to break it in and then installed the above parts. No issues with the charging system ever. I pretty much… Read more

did the same thing with a new hinckley Bonneville I had. I had a small leak at the clutch cover that the dealer fixed. They came and picked the bike up and offered to bring it back. I have only had to change the oil and one battery due to a failed battery tender over winter. My dealer is a real brick and mortar shop and spent time to set it up correctly. This is something I see over looked by folks that have some issues. That's all the bad... The bike constantly gets thumbs up or has people wanting to talk about it. It's extremely fast especially for a 650. It chugs around at slow speeds as well with ease. It does OK on the hwy even though I don't ride on the hwy much. It needs a windshield for sure for the hwy. It has no issue running at 75mph all day long. I added the hyo floorboards and changed the muffler out. I waxed all the chrome parts the day I got it. Again just like I did with the Triumph Bonneville I had. I haven't had any rusting issues because of the preventative maintenance. Other than that and the electrical... it's stock. I'm glad I bought it and am glad I had a decent dealership set it up. It's been a fun bike. I gave it 4 stars. I wish there were more accessories for it and some of the plastics are chinsy. But for the price you pay it's a very good bike with a ton of power. (Non lams version)

I'm pretty much were I want to be as far as upgrades go. I just get on it and ride it.

Well unfortunately my purchase I don't think was a wise one – I've had a lot of unnecessary problems with the bike. The dealer support is poor and I'm worried about what's going to happen when my warranty runs out. The shops had the bike almost as much as I've owned it so far and some of the issues are serious. My lesson is buyer beware investigate what you're buying in the warranties back up I wish I was… Read more

October 5th 2017 Update: 2015 hyosung gv650 Pro

Have had quite a few problems with the bike but now they're starting to work themselves out and it's actually running pretty well I've been riding the bike hard to try to work out any problems that I will have with it so it is covered under warranty I really wish the bike had a sixth gear.

Surprisingly not too bad and they look nice – This bike is really quite okay; yes it’s not the most expensive bike in the market and yes they have cut some corners on the build and design properties with these bikes but all not in a very bad way. A good friend of mine wanted to move to a bigger bike but she was on a budget and asked me to test ride this one year old 2,300k’s Hyosung GV 650… Read more

Aquila for her as she knows that we have three bikes in our family and I have been on bikes for well let’s just say a long time now. Anyway I took this bike out for quite a long test ride and I was almost in the hope that it would fail in some way but to very much of my surprise I found the bike to be very dam good. And in more ways than just one. I pushed the engine well into its limits and found a very good balance of acceleration and torque out of the 650cc engine all without any fuss. The bike is happy to hit the hills and tight roads with no effort equal to any other well-known brand name bike. And the Hyosung pull up time and time again in an emergency stop scenario very true and safely. The ride on the bike is not too harsh and not to mushy it’s kind of fine in fact. Clutch and gears are also very normal both work as well as any other once again. All up not too bad at all.

Things I did not like that much at all was that the handlebars. They are not able to be adjusted in anyway and also the instrument cluster lights are bad. Not the LCD display but the turn neutral ect lights can only be seen at night time riding. The bikes side stand hangs very low and gets a small grind job while going around tight left hand bends. But that’s about it.

So in summary if you get one of these bikes and they don’t give you any grief, I think for the…. what you get for the money aspect they are quite fine indeed.

So many problems, so few answers – I have had problems from day one since i drive it off the showroom floor, i've had numerous parts replaced under warranty just to find the same problem again later until i sourced other compatible parts from other bikes other than hyosung. Each time warranty replacement took too long waiting for parts and then actually doing the work. I had… Read more

tried to get them to replave the whole bike as it had spent more time in the workshop than on the road in the first 18 months but got laughed off. After sales service was terrible, they had their money and it was now my problem. I eventually did my own research, sourced other parts and did my own work and its now a good reliable bike. Would NEVER buy another Hyosung, would never purchase anything ever again from Team Moto, and would tell anyone who will listen to not touch one with a 10 foot barge pole. I couldn't travel more than 35km in a single ride without having a problem, the bike / components couldn't be trusted to get from A-B let alone for a sunday ride fir which it was purchased. DONT BUY HYOSUNG

Great Eye Catcher but far far from perfect – I brought this bike new in 2009, before this I had about 10 bikes, mainly completely trouble free Hondas. The first thing that strikes you with this bike is the looks on people's eye when the see it. It is such a beautiful bike and you will notice that it is an instant eye catcher, but unfortunately looks are not enough, those who are giving a… Read more

positive review after a few months must surely be inexperienced bikers. I encountered few minor problems in the first 3 years with low mileage, first there was petrol tank leakage which I fixed, the electronics on this bike are utter rubbish, the first thing to do on a bike this beautiful (and if you plan to keep it, for looks sake) is to change the wiring harness, the regulator/Rectifier (which is a must, mine is a Shindengen Mosfet Regulator/Rectifier) and the stator, I replaced mine to a Kawasaki stator which fitted perfectly, after that, you'll be able to get decent charging on the battery, which is a major issue with these bikes, another problem I had was with the FI warning lights coming on all the time which is already mentioned in previous reviews, the problem is usually caused by a defective gear sensor switch, the neutral is very hard to find and the gearbox is far from refined, but somehow, you'll get used to it, I attribute this to the gear lever linkage, on the positive side the bike is very maneuverable and comfortable on short rides, but if you decide to take it for a long ride, you get pain in the back. This bike also doesn't lack power, you'll find that most cruisers with much bigger engines won't even manage to keep pace with you. The finish isn't that bad especially if it is well kept after, I had Suzuki bikes with much bigger rusting problems, must note that mine was always garaged.

Great bike – Owned for 3 years and 25,000kms, still going great. Had some problems with the radiator cracking which is fairly common for the bike, also replaced the OEM RR with a Mosfet RR. Very speedy bike for a cruiser, will be sure to impress. Wish there was more aftermarket options for customisation.

Bike Has Blown up with 530km on the clock – Purchased the new GV650 in Adelaide 03/10/15. Rode the bike from Adelaide to a remote town 600km's away on the 05/10/15 and did 530km's when I blew a head. It was a pain in the rear – Looks cool, goes hard. Breaks were fantastic, nice seat and riding position and bars are very nice. Fit and finish is really poor. It just feels cheap. The handle bars are WELDED on!!! You can't adjust them, the welds were shoddy and rusting under the thin as hell chrome. Scary. The speedometer was hilariously incorrect. 110kph indicated… Read more

was maybe 98kph at best. Pain in the rear.

Only 5000kms on the clock it needed a partial rebuild due to scorched cylinder bores.

Cam ticked like mad at 6000kms, needed new cam followers.

Plastic mirrors snapped off in my hands at only a year old. Replacements broke again soon after.

Dashboard reset at 6500ms indicating 0kms ie a "brand new bike". Great for resale but crap for a 1 year old bike to do that.

Will never ride a Hyosung again.

Looks good and performs good (not perfect), for a decent price – I am the second owner and have put about 4K miles on mine. No issues other than typical wear and tear. Plenty of power and rides well. Get lots of comments on the looks of the bike :) Issues... it is hard to find neutral sometimes, that is a real pita. And the lack of a 6th gear (cruising) is disappointing for highway/long distance driving. All-in-all happy with it and feel I got about what I paid for.

excellent bike! – bought my bike brand new last year (2014) and it is a fantastic bike, went from a 185 2 stroke, to a 650 sport tourer to this gv650 sport and it is a absolute pleasure to ride, only problem i can pick onit about is its slightly too hard seat. (might of been spoilt by my tourer) never had a problem with it, very quick, turns heaps of heads, absolutly love it! :)  Show 2 replies

My bike took 3 weeks to fix and then had to go back in which took another 3 weeks . Spend your money on something else more reliable with a good company that wants to back the product it sells. Great learner bike – Having had a miserable experience on the Hyosung GV250 Aquila (slow, uneconomical, top heavy handling, poor suspension, rust...) I was very hesitant about buying this. As a learner on my restricted licence I wanted something that looked good, wasn't going to break the bank, and could at least keep up with most cars - I was sick of the shame of the… Read more ·  1

poxy 250. But one test ride later I was handing over my money for the 650. And over 7000kms later I still smile when I climb onto this bike. This bike gives you that real bad look as a learner without the embarrassment of a slow 250cc bike. It is so balanced and easier to do a u-turn on than the clumsy 250 version - despite being a good 70kg heavier. And it's still light for a cruiser so with a bit of practice it is easy to move around both on and off the bike. The quality is far superior to the 250, and the performance for the 650 LAMS version is impressive. It will do the 0-100 sprint in 6 seconds, and go all the way to over 160 before running out of steam. The overtaking 80-120 time is again 6 seconds so it will outrun most cars. Obviously it's restricted to 53hp to prevent learners killing themselves, so unrestricted to the full 80hp it would be even quicker. Economy on long rides is superb at 55mpg or 5.1l/100km. Round town it'll do mid-40s but as it encourages you to race away from the lights that could be improved by lighter throttle use. But why would you? Brakes are excellent, but the back tyre will lock up if both brakes are slammed on in an emergency, otherwise the rear brake makes slow maneuvers a breeze. I've been on several long trips and it is an easy bike to go distance on, but will start to give you a numb bum after about 150km. The ride quality is good rather than brilliant (but 100 times better than the woeful 250 which vibrates so much over 70kmh that you can't see) and is the reason for the 4 stars. The sports screen is rubbish and a waste of money - it funnels wind straight into your face. I installed an imported large screen from the US which was easy to fit and makes long distance cruising much more relaxing. The rear seat and luggage combination option make the bike even more suitable for long distance cruising. Having spent 18 months on it I'm due to sit my full licence soon and will look for a bigger cruiser, but for my first real bike (I don't count the 250) it has been a joy to own and ride. PS - get the pegs adjusted to be closer to the seat - it's a lot more comfortable. Terrific power for LAMS, looks fantastic, easy handling, great economy

We returned the bike and got our money back – Hyosung couldn't have got it more wrong, at the same time as getting so many things right with the GV650. It looks fantastic, turning heads when other riders see it for the first time - handles well, and has plenty of grunt, especially for a LAMS approved 650. All of these reasons are why we bought the bike for my wife to learn on. We… Read more

considered the fact it's a Hyosung before we bought it, and researched reviews far and wide. The positive reviews far outnumber the negatives, so we decided it wasn't that much of a risk after all.

So, after trundling around the city and local country roads for the first 1,000km, we headed off to Alice Springs (from Perth, WA) on the 2013 Black Dog Ride to the Red Centre. Brilliant ride, and the bike did everything asked of it, until we got to Ceduna in South Australia, and the radiator split, dumping coolant on the ground in the camping area. This was 4,000 km after purchasing the thing brand new.

Efforts to organise a replacement radiator didn't go well, and the bike made its way to Alice Springs on the support vehicle trailer (the Trailer of Shame) where we finally got a new radiator six days later. They couldn't even be bothered putting the thing on a plane for us. I fitted the new radiator (as the local Hyosung dealer had apparently gone bust ten months earlier, and we headed to Adelaide. Had the bike serviced and checked (especially the cooling system) and given the green light.

We headed back to Perth, but only made it as far as Norseman (another 4,000 km) before the second radiator (what Hyosung called their 'upgraded' model) split, leaving the bike unrideable - and us just twenty four hours ahead of the Rebels Motorcycle Club who were coming to Perth on their annual run. We had to put the bike and some luggage into a shed at the BP Roadhouse (great people!) while we headed back to Perth two-up on my ever reliable VTX1300. A trip back the next day with a bike trailer to Norseman and then back to Perth, where we dropped the bike at the dealers and said we wanted a full refund.

In December, we got the money back, including rego costs and will never, as long as we live, buy another bike made by Hyosung.

The dealer has dropped Hyosung like a hot potato, and no longer sells their product. Good looks, handling, performance Unreliable piece of rubbish, mechanically

Value for money – I had a look at all of the cruisers in the size and price range (650cc - 900cc) and liked something about all of them. others. As it turned out it was also the lowest priced.

Riding it home from the dealer I had trouble getting my feet onto the pegs. They seemed so far forward but after riding it a couple of times I liked the position and still find it to be my most comfortable bike.

For a 650 it has a lot of power. It makes easy work of even the steepest hills with the ability to accelerate all the way up in top.

Overtaking on the open road is a breeze with the free revving v twin.

I have done 28,600km on mine with no problems it is very reliable. The handling is also excellent and fun in the twists, changing direction easily. You can really throw it around at speed.

It is very heavy and awkward to walk it around manually, maybe due to the wide back tyre. It is 40kg lighter than another cruiser I have and is more difficult to move around.

All up it was excellent value for money and I have no regrets at all with my choice. Style, reliability, power, fun to ride.

Best bike in its class – What a great bike. It looks fantastic, handles great with exciting performance (especially after destricting it). If you put a key ring on it marks the surround and is annoying while travelling at speed. Economy is very good,… Read more ·  1

handling predictable while exciting and unlike other well known cruisers, you don't keep bashing the foot pegs while cornering (although I have a couple of times).

Their is one thing I hate about it, and that is the accuracy of the speedo. An indicated 114 kph is truly only 100ks, although the odometer is bang on. When the local dealer was questioned, he showed me an article which clearly states that ALL new bikes are allied to be 10% plus an addition 4ks wrong. This makes mine legal, which is very annoying. I only bought this bike as a stop gap but have decided to keep it. Performance, looks, economy and handling Ignition key placing and speedometer accuracy

road but its bloody good value for the money. Good value for money and now nice to ride. I had some initial annoying/disappointing problems - A pin in an electrical connection became faulty resulting in rough running and engine cut-outs and that took a few days for the workshop to find and sort out and I also found the throttle response to be snatchy and not smooth, especially at low speeds and after up-changing. After three more visits to the workshop they got their engine manomputer updated and downloaded a new mapping program and that fixed the problem. Its now a pleasure to ride.

Also rear shocker rubbers not to good.A lot of free play in the top mounting rubbers. AS well as the Speedometre is too slow a reading 10% over the board. unbelievably smooth, the belt final drive is dead quite and the acceleration is smooth as silk and doesnt try to rip you arms out, however wring its neck and youll be struggling to hold on. The brakes pull you up hard without trying to throw you over the bars. The bike sticks to the road like sh#t to a blanket and gives you the confidence to push harder through the corners then you would on any other cruiser. The long wheelbase makes it stable at any speed but takes a little getting used to if your used to shorter sportier bikes. All in all this bike is brilliant especially for the coin, you get alot of bike for not alot of money, with a 2 year unlimited kilometer warrenty. The mirrors are well placed compared to some more impressive machinery I've had. Much as my ego would like something else, I will be keeping it. The note out of the factory sports system is lovely.

Thought I might add that I rode from Tassie to Culburra Beach NSW. I didn't have any issues. I rode from Station Pier Melbourne up the Hume to my parent's place in Culburra Beach in the one day. Then returned home a week or so later down the Princes Highway to Melbourne via my sister's at Bairnsdale without a problem. I ended up selling the bike with abour 18,500km not because there was anything wrong with it, but because I wanted to change direction with my riding. I don't know if I just scored a good one or not as everything was stock, but I never had any of the problems that seem to litter customer reviews on these bikes. If I had kept it I would have changed the rear shockies, only due to my size, put a bigger windshield on it and put a decent horn on it. So if you find a good one, ENJOY. Comfy for a 6' plus rider. Good torque for a 650 twin. Good initial outlay. Sound. Some chrome a bit shabby. Front tyre had it at 10,000 K's. Sissy horn. Resale value. Passenger comfort poor.
